Advantages: Effective, gentle and reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Packaging cannot be recycled
I've been rather spoiled for choice over the past seven months in relation to my beauty products, particularly as I made myself a promise not to purchase anything new until I'd used all of my current supply. I regularly use face scrubs as part of my beauty routine and in amongst my huge stash was one belonging to the Asda Skin System range and this review discusses my experience with using it.
I cannot admit to being brand loyal when it comes to facial scrubs and I tend to alternate with whatever is on offer. As I don't shop in Asda very often, I resemble a child in a sweetshop when I reach their toiletries aisle and it was initially the pale green refreshing looking packaging with its splashes of silver that attracted me to the Skin System range. On picking up the sturdy plastic 150 ml tube to study the ingredients I was impressed by the inclusion of white tea, together with shea butter and aloe vera leaf juice, which gave me the distinct impression that the scrub would be gentle, yet effective on my T-zone skin as well as offering a high level of moisturisation.
The tube sits on an easy to open and securely close flip top lid, which is my preferred style of packaging for this type of product, particularly as there's no need to fumble with a screw top lid whilst my hands are wet. The scrub is easily dispensed where I squeeze an approximate 2 cm length onto my finger tips, which is more than sufficient for one application. My initial thoughts for this product were that it would be below standard, particularly as I had not long finished using another supermarket's own brand scrub, which I had found very disappointing.
The fragrance free scrub offered a pure white appearance and resembled that of a cream as opposed to a scrub, but once I applied it to my damp face I was able to witness the texture of the exfoliating grains and whilst they were perhaps a little less obvious and more gentle than other brands I've used, I found the scrub extremely effective. I am prone to suffering with blackheads on my chin and at the outer edges of the lower part of my nose, but with regular use of facial scrubs on alternate days, I am able to keep them at bay. The scrub was effortlessly rinsed away without leaving any sticky residue and I was well impressed with its ability to deliver high quality results. Unfortunately, a few brands of scrubs will leave my skin feeling rather tight, similar to the sensation offered when wearing an almost dry peel off face mask.
However, due to the shea butter content my skin was left feeling soft and smooth as well as thoroughly cleansed and refreshed. In addition to the ingredients mentioned above, the scrub contains Vitamin E, which is known for fighting the signs of ageing, so I feel I'm using a high quality product on my skin. The scrub has been dermatologically tested, has not been used on animals and contains no parabens. When I make a comparison with branded scrubs I cannot admit to being able to find any noticeable differences other than the slightly more gentle exfoliating grains and the price, as at the time of writing you can purchase this scrub from Asda for just £1.80 with its normal price being £2.00. Consequently, I had no choice but to visit Asda earlier this week to stock up!
I can highly recommend Skin System Face Scrub although I have no choice but to remove a star due to the fact that the tube cannot be recycled, which I think a little odd. However, this is something I am repeatedly noticing on cheaper brands of beauty products, as it seems that the manufacturers are using non recyclable packaging, which is an issue that seriously needs to be addressed.
I hope you found my review useful and thanks for reading.
