Asda Skin System Vitamin E Cleansing Wipes
Advantages: Pleasant to use..convenient..great value price!!
Disadvantages: Um... None!!
I was recently doing a 'virtual' grocery shop online at www.asda.com and was perusing the 'aisles' of toiletry and cosmetic items, when my eye happened upon a few items on one of the website's pages showing an Asda own-branded skin care range called "Skin System" which I had not seen before. Slightly intrigued, I investigated further and was immediately impressed with the absolute bargain prices of some of the skin care items in the range and decided to order a couple of the items to try out for myself.
The first of the items that I bought was a small package of facial cleansing wipes from the Skin System range. I paid only 46 pence (yes, you read that correctly!) for the package containing 25 wipes which I thought was extremely good value. I was even more impressed to note that the full name of the wipes was "Skin System Vitamin E Cleansing Wipes", as I know how beneficial Vitamin E can be for the skin, and regularly pay a bit more than average for products that contain it.
When the package of wipes was delivered with the rest of my grocery shopping, first impressions were good. I was impressed firstly with the good quality sticky label on the front of the plastic package which looked to be quite thick and extremely sticky. Thus, I was fairly confident that the package would remain closed quite easily and this would prevent my facial wipes from drying out and becoming useless. Now that I am at the end of the package, I can confirm that this initial first impression was absolutely correct, and the label is still extremely sticky and remains closed easily.
I was also initially quite impressed with some of the information printed on the plastic package. Firstly, I could see that there is a sort of 3-in-1 element to these particular cleansing wipes in that they are designed to cleanse, tone and moisturise, which presumably would mean that many consumers would be able to save time (and money) by using one product instead of partaking in a more laborious skincare routine.
Secondly, I could see that the cleansing wipes were suitable for all skin types, and were fragrance free, as well as being dermatologically tested. All of these statements are like music to my ears (or like lotion to my easily-aggravated sensitive skin, if you want a more 'fitting' simile..!) and I regularly go out of my way to seek out products that are 'kind to skin' or are fragrance-free.
Using the wipes was very quick and easy to do, and I found the whole process to be extremely convenient for me. Removing an individual wipe from the pack was easy to do too, and I didn't encounter any problems with them all sticking together or removing a single wipe at a time.
The wipes feel very soft and are not at all abrasive to the touch in the way that many other brands of facial wipes are. They are like soft cloths and are not at all 'wet' or seeping in moisture. Instead, they are damp to the touch and feel quite cool when removed from the package. The wipes are a fairly generous size and whilst they are not the largest I have ever come across, they are more than ample to use on my face, and both sides of the wipe can be used easily.
I thought that the Asda Skin System wipes felt very refreshing when used on my tired face. I thought that they weren't overly cold or unconformable feeling on my skin, but left my skin feeling rather 'awakened' and quite refreshed. I thought also that the little cloths themselves felt quite gentle and very soft when smoothed over my face and around the delicate eye area.
Removing my make-up was quick and easy to do with the wipes too. I found that they 'lifted' the make-up easily from my skin and left little or no residue behind. It is true that sometimes I had to reach for a second wipe to thoroughly remove my foundation, but I think this is as a result of the combination of the amount of make-up I wear and the 'neater than some brands' size of the towels themselves. Also, I found the wipes were great for removing eye make-up and mascara, as well as the thick black eyeliner that I wear frequently. In actual fact, there is a statement on the reverse of the packaging advising that direct contact with the eyes should be avoided. If I had noticed this statement the first time around, I would probably not have used the Skin System wipes to take my eye make-up off, but I didn't notice it until I was about half-way through the package and as I had suffered no irritation or stinging around the eyes, I continued to use the facial wipes to take off my eye make-up without incident.
As for the 3-in-1 element to these wipes, I personally wouldn't substitute my good-quality moisturiser with anything, and I have not replaced any part of my usual skincare routine with the use of the Skin System cleansing wipes. I tend to find that facial cleansing wipes are quite good as a 'quick-fix' solution to cleansing and toning, and I use them daily for removing my make-up. I find though that they aren't really a good substitute for a complete skincare routine, but for the low price paid for these particular wipes, I wouldn't expect them to be! I was happy that the Skin System wipes didn't dry my skin out at all, and left my skin feeling lovely and clean and softened slightly, but I wouldn't say that the moisturising effects were on a par with using a separate moisturising product.
Regarding the product being tested on animals, there is a statement on the reverse of the packaging informing consumers "Asda is against animal testing & funds research into alternatives."
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with the Asda Skin System wipes and have already ordered more of the product on my next grocery shop. I think they offer a great value skincare product that works well and is very gentle on my troublesome skin. I wholeheartedly recommend them and think they deserve full marks!
There is a range of products in the Asda Skin System range which can be found in larger branches of Asda supermarkets and online at www.asda.com.
Summary: A great little find that I'd definitely recommend..!!
