Advantages: Softens and smooths skin, smells nice

Disadvantages: None for me

We are constantly trying out new body lotions and moisturisers as my husband suffers terribly with the symptoms of his psoriasis. He has tried too many creams to count but none seem to work very effectively and he is still left with big patches of red, scaly skin that itches terribly and it's a massive effort for him not to scratch it and make it even worse. His discomfort isn't pleasant to witness so every time I see a new possibility cream-wise I always think it's worth a try, as neither of us really want him to have to go down the medication route.

In Tesco's I saw the Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion and, with its claims to moisturise dry skin for 24 hours I thought it was worth a shot. Obviously, I realise that his skin condition is much more serious than "dry skin" but I live in hope that one day something we try will turn out to be that miracle product that works for him! From memory it was around £4.50 for the 200ml tube, which I thought was quite good value.

The tube itself stands about 7 inches tall and stands on the flip top lid (which for me was reason enough to buy it...I ALWAYS prefer things like this to use flip top lids rather than screw top, which can get very messy when trying to refasten them with your hands coated in moisturiser!) and the packaging is very neutral, a beige coloured tube with khaki green and brown lettering - although, to be honest, for every day products like this the packaging isn't really an issue for me.

The cream itself, although quite a thick cream, is still quite light so a little really does go a long way. It doesn't take much rubbing to get it fully absorbed into your skin and I can immediately feel the difference after I apply it. It definitely makes my skin feel softer and smoother. Although it's described as a daily moisturiser, I personally prefer lighter creams/sprays for daily use and so just use this on really dry areas such as my ankles and elbows, but it really does work well in moisturising and softening these problem areas.

According to the packaging, this cream is fragrance free, but obviously nothing can be totally fragrance free and this is no different. But it is in no way an unpleasant scent. I quite like it really, it just smells sort of creamy, if you know what I mean...not creamy in a dairy product sense, but creamy in a moisturiser sense...light and fresh and very very subtle.

As for my husbands psoriasis, unfortunately it doesn't work for him. Whilst it soothes his skin for a few minutes after application (apparently naturally active oats "have a powerful soothing and anti-irritant action" - who knew?!), it doesn't lessen the dryness, redness or flakiness of it, so we're still on the hunt for that elusive solution!

So, whilst this cream doesn't do what I initially hoped it would (and which it in no way claims to do, I was just wishful thinking!), it is definitely worth having and I do use it on a daily basis but only on the very driest areas of my skin. For me personally, it would be too heavy to use as an all over body lotion every day. And, as I only use a small amount at a time, it has so far lasted about 6 months, so it has been excellent value for money and I would definitely buy it again.

Summary: A great body lotion that really does work well on dry skin
