Cleanance K is a treatment for spots, blemishes and blackheads from the French brand Avene. It uses AHA (Alpha hydrox acid) to create a peeling effect on the surface of the skin and BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acid) to unblock pores. The ingredient that causes the peeling effect is glycolic acid which is an AHA and the ingredient that helps to unclog pores is salicylic acid which is a BHA. The glycolic acid or AHA works by weakening the glue type substance that holds dead skin cells together and allows them to be exfoliated allowing new skin cells to be exposed. It's mainly used to improve the look and texture of skin so it can be really helpful with acne scarring, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. The Salicylic acid in Cleanace K works in the same sort of way, by exfoliating but also helps to open pores and kills bacteria within which obviously helps clear existing spots and helps to prevent new ones. I have used both of these ingredients in different products before and found them to be pretty effective but I've found them to be most effective when they are combined in products like this one.
You're supposed to apply Cleanace K morning and/or evening to thoroughly cleansed, clean, dry skin. It has a white gel type consistency and is pretty thick but I find it fairly easy to apply/spread. A pea sized amount of product normally covers my whole face and once I've given it a couple of minutes to soak in and the stinging dies down (this is due to the glycolic acid) it feels pretty comfortable and actually quite hydrating. Another thing this product is supposed to do is regulate sebum production or in other words, help to keep skin matt and shine free. This is pretty noticeable straight after I've applied it, my skin instantly looks more matt which I think also makes skin appear more even. The leaflet that the product comes with promises a matt, shine free face all day, I wouldn't say it controls oil that well but I have definitely noticed a big improvement in oil production since I started using this stuff. Something else that's mentioned in the leaflet is that this makes a great base for make up and helps to provide extra hold. Foundation does go on easily and evenly after using this and I am getting longer wear out of make up which is obviously due to the oil control this stuff has.
The overall effect that this has had on my blemished, clog prone skin has been pretty good. I have seen quite a big improvement with those annoying little purple/red marks and scars that have been left behind from previous break outs and I've also noticed a difference in the amount of time existing spots seem to hang around. My pores feel and look cleaner and my skin is generally more even. I've also found this product works quite well at reducing redness which is great because spots look a lot less inflamed and are easier to conceal. I didn't have any blackheads to begin with so I can't comment on whether this stuff would help with that issue. It really has helped with clogged pores generally though and since blackheads are just pretty much the same kind of thing I can imagine it would probably help with this problem too.
A 40ml bottle costs £10.00 from Boots which I think is really reasonable. 40ml goes a long way because only a small amount of product is needed. I've had mine for about six weeks now and with daily use I'm just coming to the end of my tube. Before I discovered Cleanance K I was using Peter Thomas Roth AHA/BHA acne clearing gel which is designed to so the same type of job and that was costing me around £29.00. Admittedly it did last slightly longer but I think I'll be sticking with cleanance for now which is a lot cheaper and seems to be doing a great job.
I was having a terrible bout of acne, particularly on my chin, and having just turned thirty it was a little embarrassing if not disconcerting and I began to worry that it might not ever clear up.
I stopped using all my regular products to give my skin a 'break' but the outbreak continued and sometimes the spots so were so inflammed that I couldn't even cover them with foundation or concealer. This went on for a while and I must admit it did start to get me down, I even considered a trip to the GP. That was until a friend of mine introduced me to this product.
The first time I applied it to my skin, it really stung but the instruction leaflet does advise this is normal and advises you take a break from using it for a couple of days and then begin to apply morning and night, if desired.
At first there was no change and, frustratingly, I was starting to think I had just wasted more money on a product that was not going to help my problem in the slightest. However...here's the good bit.....I persisted in using it and after about a month my skin started to clear up!!!
The spots all dried up and there were no new outbreaks. The redness calmed down a lot also. I would definitly recommend this product but you must be patient for it to really take affect. I am still using it to keep my blackheads under control. Fab!
I bought this foundation last year after a really bad outbreak of spots and have stuck with it ever since. As you can imagine an outbreak of spots is the last thing you want when you have just started a new job so I was desperate to find something that would not only cover them but help get rid of them at the same time. A friend of mine recommended I try it and desperate as I was I thought it couldn't make my spots any worse so I gave it a try. Not only did I find a colour that matched my fair complexion with ease I also found that it covered my spots really well and I felt much better for it. After a few days I started to notice that the spots I had were less red and angry and within a week or so that had near enough all gone but I continued to use this foundation as I liked the texture of it on my skin and found that it didn't wear off during the day like so many others. People now comment on how clear my skin is and I firmly believe that I partially owe it to my friend for recommending Avene products to me. The only downside to this foundation is that it is more expensive than many that you would find on the highstreet but at around £15 per tube I would still recommend it, also it can be easily picked up in most larger Boots stores.
