Avene Thermal Spring Water Mist
Advantages: Perfect for sensitive skin as a cleanser & primer, helps with heat rashes, refreshes, cools you down
Disadvantages: A bit pricey to say it is at the end of the day only spring water
A couple of years ago whilst on holiday with family, I started (as usual) with the annoying heat rash, that I always seem to end up with all over my chest, when exposed to too much heat. The worst thing is that once I get it, it seems to linger on for months, not only making me uncomfortable and sore from constant scratching, but I also think it just looks terribly ugly! My sister, who was on holiday with me at the time, suggested that I tried the Avene Thermal Water, as she is a great lover of Avene products and swears by it. On our return back to the UK she ended up buying me a big 300 ml can of the Thermal Water.
The Avene thermal water comes in different size spray cans (50 ml, 100 ml or 300 ml) and the prices vary accordingly. Depending where you buy it from, you can pay anything between £4.00 for the smallest ones and £20 for the largest ones, you really do need to shop around to get the best price. The cans are a shiny white with black and peach writing, quite plain but not cheap looking I would say.
Avene thermal water comes from Avene-les-Baines thermal spring water in France, which was declared to be of public benefit in dermatology in 1874. This spring water's unique and constant composition gives it soothing and anti-irritating properties, acknowledged by numerous scientific studies. At the Avene Dermatological Spa, it is used to actively treat a range of skin disorders. It is especially suitable for those with sensitive, hypersensitive and allergic skin. The Avene thermal water is suitable for soothing sunburn, nappy rash, after hair removal and for various forms of irritation. It is also great for cleansing or as a primer to set make-up.
The thermal water is dispensed via a nozzle (like a deodorant really), and when you spray it on it comes out as a fine mist, which feels cool and refreshing on the skin, without actually making you feel like you are getting soaked. It is scentless obviously, so ideal for those who do not like or are allergic to fragranced products. You are supposed to spray it on where required, wait for a few seconds, then pat it dry.
I started using the Avene thermal water on my chest, to see if it helped with my heat rash. I would spray it on whenever I felt the need to scratch it, and in between, a few times a day. It helped relieve the itchiness, so stopped me from scratching. After about a week and a half or so, my heat rash had almost disappeared! I now use it on a regular basis when summer starts (well, this year I have not used it that much as summer hasn't really started in the Lake District yet!) and always take it with me when I go on holiday, where I use it as soon as I feel my skin starting to prickle. I also use it just for a general refresh and cool down, it is nice spraying on when laying on a sunbed and you start feeling too hot! It is also ideal for a quick spritz when travelling if feeling hot and sticky.
I cannot comment on whether or not it works for sunburn, nappy rashes or after hair removal rashes as I am not usually prone to any of them (haha, especially the nappy rash, I have been out of nappies for quite a while now!). My sister though, who has always had skin that is very prone to spots, always uses it to cleanse her face with, and swears that it has helped, as she has rarely got any spots nowadays. She also uses it as a face primer and claims that her make up stays on better than when used with other primers. I personally don't wear foundation or face powder so again, I cannot comment on that aspect.
Because the Avene Thermal Water helped with my heat rash when first used, and because it seems to have prevented any more cropping up since then, I have to give it a 5 star rating, even though I still can't believe that at the end of the day it is only water and it comes at a price!
Summary: An useful product to have around the house as it can be used for various things
