A few months ago my friend became an Avon representative and she passed me a catalogue to peruse. I ended up making a few orders including this Pore Penetrating Invigorating Scrub from Avons Clearskin range, it was on offer at the time and so I paid around £2 for a tube.
Avons Clearskin Pore Penetrating Invigorating Scrub comes presented in a 75ml plastic tube which stands on its flip lid, I found the packaging to be rather plain and almost clinical in appearance, it doesn't really stand out amongst my other lotions and potions which I keep in my bathroom.
General information is given on the back including ingredients, usage and cautions. Once opened the product has a 12 month shelf life.
The scub itself is light green in colour, it is quite thick and of a sticky consistency. The exfoliating grains are very fine and cannot be seen in the scrub, however once applied and massaged into the face I can feel them gently exfoliate my skin. This is a very gentle scrub but I feel it works well at cleaning any dirt from my pores, after use my skin looks a lot brighter and smoother. The product is easily rinsed from the skin without any "grit" being left behind. I have not experienced any adverse reactions whilst using the product.
I find the scrub to be invigorating and brilliant as a morning pick me up. It has a rather strong minty tea tree fragrance which is quite pleasant, it doesn't linger long on the skin and after use it can no longer be detected. This is certainly a unisex product and I think it is most suited to the younger generation.
This is a really nice facial scrub that works well at cleaning out my pores, I tend to use it once a week and this seems to work well. I would consider myself to have "normal" skin and am not really prone to spots or oily skin, but I do love that deep clean feeling from a scrub and Avon's Pore Penetrating Invigorating Scrub certainly hits the mark.
I do really like this scrub and would consider buying it again should I see it on offer, however I feel the full RRP of £4 is a little expensive really so I wouldn't purchase it full price.
Avon Clearskin Pore Penetrating Invigorating Scrub.
Comes in white tube with the Avon Clearskin green logo.
Has a strong flip up lid.
'With pore firming technology.'
'Lifts away pore clogging dirt and excess oil'.
To use - massage onto wet face - rinse thoroughly.
Caution - avoid eyes.
Made in Poland use within 12 months.
The creamy scrub is a pale mint green and has tiny particles in it.
Full price is £4 but it will be on offer for £2 in campaign 14.
Anyone looking through the Avon catalogue would see that the Avon Clearskin range is mainly aimed at spotting teenagers.
However I have decided to give their scrubs and masks a try to brighten up my complexion.
It seems that this minty green scrub was a replacement for the original scrub which was blue - but is not one I tried - though comments left on the Avon website decry the alteration of a well-loved favourite.
Anyway back to this scrub.
The tube may be slightly small for £4 but if you buy it when it is on offer it is quite reasonable.
Although it looks minty or does not really have any specific aroma to my nose.
When you first feel it it is just like a sort of gritty - as if you had a little sand mixed with it. However although this may appear to be a bit too mild to be an effective scrub it is actually quite effective.
You only need a small amount and you can feel it making your skin tingle as it is massaged in. It rinses ff really easily and leaves your face feeling soft and smooth.
There is no guidance given on the tube so I imagine you can use as much as you wish, providing it does not give you any adverse effects. Personally I do not use it daily but just when I think about it - but it does make your skin feel lovely and soft and is a good way to remove any clogged in make-up or any dead cells - as just wiping your face with cleansing lotion is not quite so effective.
I like this scrub and will keep buying it until it gets discontinued - it does not appear to be in every catalogue so maybe its days are already numbered.
It is a unisex sort of item so can easily be shared with my son who, being in his early 20s still needs scrubs and cleansers for problem and greasy skin.
So don' t be put off in thinking that these Clearskin products are just for teens with greasy skins. This scrub is quite mild and of course depends on how vigorously you rub it into your face.
===Would I Recommend?===
I like to use an exfoliating face wash of some sort 2-3 times a week and when this one was on special offer in the Avon catalogue, I thought it would give it a try.
It has a flip-top lid which I find so much easier to use with wet hands, particularly while in the shower. Squeeze the plastic tube and you can ensure you use last drop of this product. The white and green colourway of the packaging suggests to me a more medicated-type face wash than cosmetic, but not overly so.
Apply to a damp face, avoiding the eyes. More is less, only a small amount of product is required - a little goes a long way!
Sage green in colour which hints at the menthol properties.
I like an exfoliator to feel like it is actually sloughing off those dead skin cells (yuck!), somewhere south of sandpaper but something that does feel like it is actually doing something "scrubby" to my skin and not just washing it. This product has the texture of gritty clay, thick enough to be easily applied to the face and neck without dripping off your fingers and going straight down the plughole, but so thick as to resemble a face-mask. The scrubbing particles are like fine sand and, for me, give just the right amount of exfoliation. If you like something VERY gentle, then this is probably not for you.
This scrub has a minty menthol aroma and almost gives the impression of heating up on the face in a weird thermal-sensation type way and it definitely feels like it is penetrating those sinuses - ideal when you have a bit of nasal congestion and by no means unpleasant.
**Effects on Skin**
Positive! Helps keep my skin bright and clear and feeling super-cleansed. I don't suffer from breakouts and I look 20 years younger than I actually am (joke!)
**Availability and Price**
I think I paid £3 from Avon but it doesn't seem to be in their current catalogue. On Amazon it is currently available for £5.99 with free delivery.
Recommended. Five stars from me.
-- Reasons for buying --
I had recently ran out of my usual apricot facial scrub and as one of my friends has just become an Avon representative I thought I would do her a favour a purchase a few goodies! This was on offer amongst a few other products from the 'Clear skin' range.
-- Packaging --
The product comes in a white squeezable tube, with the 'Clear skin' logo on the front with 'Pore penetrating' by its side. On the back shows directions of how to use amongst ingredients found inside the tube which make the scrub up.
-- Using the product --
Using and applying the product is very easy and you can also find directions on the back of the tube. Simply damp your face with warm water and massage a small amount of face scrub onto your face and then wash off with warm water. I advice that you cleanse your skin before applying the scrub to get rid of any make up you may have on to get the full benefits of the scrub.. no one likes the thought of scrubbing making more around your face and push it deeper into your pores. Once I have cleansed and scrubbed, I like to use a face mask after to fully clean my skin. I only tend to use a face scrub and face mask 1-2 times a week. You only need to use a small amount of product as a little goes a long way.
-- Pros --
I found this product to have very similar results to my usual face scrub, my skin felt baby soft and free of blackheads around my nose and freed my cheeks from dry skin! You only need to use a little bit at a time and as I don't use it very often it will definitely last me a long time. Its definitely a very good scrub but again it is very similar to my usual scrub the only difference is that my usual scrub is a bit more expensive than the 'Clear skin' one even when its full price!
-- Cons --
The only thing that I don't get on with is squeezable tubes, I tend to find them really annoying when your on your last bit of the product and the only answer is to cut the tube to retrieve the remaining scrub. I find I get on much better with a tub which you can scoop out with your hands, but then this can be a messy job.
-- Price and availability --
I would say this scrub is widely available as there are many Avon representatives which you will be able to find if you go onto the Avon website and search for one near you, also they have an online shop which you can simply order from and get it delivered to you. I got this scrub on offer for £2.40 which is currently still on if you have a look online. Its full price is £4 which I think for 75ml is not very bad at all, if you tend to use a face scrub every day you will may run out quite quickly, but if you only use it 1-2 times a week then I say this is good option!
-- Conclusion --
This scrub is fantastic much cheaper than my usual but worth every penny. It may be a squeezable tube but I'm sure I'll learn to get used to it! Would definitely recommend this as it gave me beautifully clean, clear and glowing skin!
I have been using this range from Avon off and on for years. It is only about the last 4 months that I started using this product again as before I found the range to be a bit harsh for my skin but weather the product has changed or perhaps my skin has but I find that this does ok for me.
The Clearskin range from Avon is pretty similar to other Specialist Spot ranges such as Clearasil or Oxy. This range used to state in the Avon book that it was aimed at 13-19 year olds, so the Teenage market, and it is probably more this age range that it would work well with, but i'm sure a lot of us still get Spots and I don't think i've ever grown out of my Teenage skin unfortunately.
This comes in a 75ml tube and the normal price of this is £4, but if you are familiar with the Avon brand then you will know that products seem to be on offer every now and again. This is in the current Avon book for £2 and I think it was a similar price when I bought it a few months ago.
The clearskin range is split into different categories and the Pore Penetrating range is designed to give a deep clean that you can feel (according to Avon). There is also a Clay Massk, Cooling Astringent and Gel Cleanser in this category and I use the Gel Cleanser sometimes as well.
The tube for this is alright. A white tube with a little green pattern on it. This tube stands on it's end and you should get all the drips of this out. This doesn't have a flip top lid, which I think it would benefit from. I tend to unscrew the lid and then use the product, but then I can't put the lid on straight away as i'm rubbing the product in and on the odd occassion a little of this has dribbled out onto my window ledge. So if it had a flip top lid then I would be able to flip this shut.
So this is a medium thickness Gel which has plenty of little Grainy bits dotted through it. Just wet your face, then rub a blob of this between your palms then rub onto your face. This feels rough enough but isn't overly rough. It's just ok in my view. This smells alright. It doesn't smell like a medicated scent, but smells clean and fresh.
I find this to work well on my face. I use a Scrub only once a week, as I used to find that it seemed to be kind of drying on my cheeks, as I have combination skin and my cheeks can be a little on the dry side. This seems to help make any Spots that I have shrink a little and I don't notice any new ones crop up. Also my cheeks don't feel all that dry.
A good product as usually a good price.
I started using this as an alternative to the St Ives facial scrubs, which are fantastic but pricey. I've tried a few others and not found any that are granular enough for my skin. Anyway I ordered this one and got it on offer for £1.75 for 75ml (RRP is £4 for 75ml), so I thought this was a good bargain. It seems that everytime I look through my AVON book this product is on offer and I've never had to pay full price for it in over a year.
The packaging itself is basic (but what do you want fancy packaging for? I want a product that works), the only down side as mentioned by the other reviewers is the super strong lid. It's quite difficult to get open in the shower when you have wet hands and I often end up using my teeth (I don't suppose that will do them any good). Also if you leave it open then the scrub solidifies and you can't get any out, so that isn't really an option.
The scrub itself is pretty fantastic in my opinion. As I've already mentioned I like quite a harsh, granular scrub, which may not be for everyone. However, my skin can get quite greasy so I find this perfect. Since using it I've had hardly any spots/blackheads, so it must be working. I use it everyday, which again might not be alright for everyone but my skin needs it. You don't need very much for your whole face, so a tube goes a long way, I use approximately a 10p sized blob for my face and neck. When you apply it your face tingles and feels nice and cool, a lovely way to wake up on a morning....just don't get any in your eyes.
There isn't really anything else to say about the product, it's cheap, it clears and cleans my skin and a small amount goes a long way.
I've been using this scrub for the past year and my skin has never been so clear! I use it everyday in the shower and scrub it all over my face. I've used a lot of scrubs in the past but this is the only one that seems to live up to its title of "scrub". Its got big enough granules to give your face a good scrub so that you can actually feel the dirt getting scrubbed off. Your face is left with a nice tinglie feeling all over and you feel very refreshed after using it.
You do have to be careful when using it not to get any in your eye. Not only is it really hard to get the granules out of your eye but that nice tinglie feeling it leaves on your face isn't all that nice when its your eye that's tingling.
Another slight issue is that the cap is quite hard to get off and on again. If you don't shut it properly then the mixture hardens (not exactly useful!).
The product is slightly on the pricey side at around £4 for 75ml (although it always seems to be on offer) but for me its definitely worth the price. It keeps my skin feeling clean and fresh all day and keeps my pores nice and clean.
Avon used to sell a fabulous product called the Clearskin Invigorating Cleansing Scrub. Sadly about 18months ago they discontinued this range much to my disappointment. The scrub was an intense blue coloured mixture which when working on the skin provided a cool sensation and was anti-bacterial. It kept my skin clear and free from spots and maintained a balanced complexion.
For some time Avon failed to replace this brilliant product which left me searching other brands and failing to find a suitable alternative. Then one day I was casually flipping through a catalogue, wondering when Avon started producing hefty books rather than light magazine type catalogues, when I came across the Clearskin Pore Penetrating Invigorating Scrub. I almost jumped off my seat!
I had been using various other products for about 8 months without success and immediately placed an order for this product I hadn't come across before.
This scrub comes in a white freestanding tube which sits on a round plastic lid with a flip cap. It holds 75ml of mixture which is quite standard with these sorts of tubes. The packaging is simple but sufficient. The Pore Penetrating details are written in green across the front, whilst all the ingredients and instructions are detailed in very small text on the back in 10 languages.
Unlike the Cleansing Scrub, this Pore Penetrating scrub is green! It's a pale peppermint cream green colour but works exactly the same way as its blue predecessor. Apply the scrub to a wet face and massage, then rinse. Easy!
I tend to use this in both bath and shower, daily. Not good for some types of skin but it works for me. The tube claims to have pore firming technology which lifts away pore-clogging dirt and excess oil - it's true but it isn't anti-bacterial like the last one.
It does has the same cooling sensation as the previous version but it does not tingle quite so much. I often, when in the bath will leave this on for a minute or too allowing it to go deeper into the skin before washing off and I have never had a bad result.
However good the product is, there will always be something which doesn't meet expectations and in this case it is the flip cap.
The cap is extremely difficult to open. I have found that once I have wet hands I cannot open it and resort to using my teeth (not good for the teeth). It is very secure lid and would not accidently open should you be taking it away in a bag somewhere. This is a huge disappointment because if you have scrub in the lid (I will explain why that might happen in a minute) then you are likely to end up tasting it if you open with your teeth.
The other problem is that if you don't close the lid (meaning struggling to open it again), the mixture which is in the top end of the tube will harden and block the opening. Firm pressure on the tube will force the scrub out and clear the blockage, but this tends to take ages and then happen all of a sudden causing a lot of the scrub to exit the tube and invariably end up in the lid. To clean this you would need to run the risk of getting water in the tube, thus mixture tends to end up in the lid.
This also hardens and goes a moulding green colour - Lovely!
I would fully recommend this facial scrub; it truly has sorted my skin. It isn't exactly the same as the blue version and if they bought that back I would immediately switch back but it's a good enough substitute.
This 75ml tube costs £4.00 (usually reduced to £2.40 - current price - or on a buy two get the third free offer). This isn't as good value for money as its predecessor which offered 100ml for a lesser price, but it is still not expensive.
(Dropped a star for the poorly designed cap. - Avon can be bought online or via their catagloue.
