peach & almond milk face mask.

When it comes to my skin I'm a bit of a snob, preferring brand names every time. That doesn't mean I only buy the most expensive, I couldn't afford it for a start and I'd miss out on some really good products. Among the brands I consider to be good but inexpensive are the Body Shop, L'Oreal and Avon. They've come a long way since the first adverts that had us all saying 'It's Avon' every time there was a ringing doorbell on the TV. Now the adverts are sleek and subtle, just like the products they sell.

I love the Avon natural range with their fruity flavours and aromas. I bought the Natural face mask in the peach and almond flavor as I love the smell of peaches and the product itself looked as if it would work well. This comes in a tube coloured a very pale peach, almost magnolia in fact. It has the Avon Naturals strip on the front of the tube and a little circle of words that are reproduced on the rear, with BioSeed Complex - plant extracts known to nourish, soothe and protect. Just in case you mistake the product it also says Energising peach and almond milk face mask

I was a bit unsure about the energizing, this is more to rid the facial skin of impurities and soothe it at the same time, but I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, after all, these products tend to claim quite a few different benefits. On the rear label is a long list of ingredients that I won't put in, but this has kaolin as one of the main ingredients and I know from my childhood the benefits of kaolin for many things, including an upset tummy and a chesty cough. It also contains quite a few seed extracts and also alcohol for those of you who prefer not to use this if it irritates your skin. I think it's added for the tightening effect it has on skin, though don't take my word for it. Look it up if in doubt.

The tube contains 75ml, which is enough for me, as I like to experiment a bit with different face products. I'm fortunate not to get rough or chapped skin on my face though it does get a bit sore in winter. I can get away with most face masks though I mostly buy favourite types such as tea tree and cucumber. This has the normal instructions, to use: Apply to face. Avoid eye area. After 10-15 minutes rinse off.

      Testing.

I run a sinkful of tepid water and gently wash my face with a suitable soap. Sometimes I use cleanser but normally soap is enough when I'm going to be using a few facial products. Once my face is clean I pat it dry with a small towel and then squeeze the tube gently, allowing about a teaspoon of product to my fingers. I apply this across the forehead first, after brushing my hair well off my face. (I often do a hair tonic or conditioning treatment at the same time). The next amount is smeared across the bridge of my nose and well into the corners where the dreaded blackheads tend to lurk. I like to do it in stages rather than all in one go, as some areas of my face need more product.

Now comes the boring bit. Obviously I can't read so it's time to put my feet up (literally) and listen to some music. I dread the doorbell ringing as it's enough to frighten off any callers. (The toweling turban tends to give the mummy look). I don't bother timing it anymore, as I don't leave it the full 15 minutes. This dries very quickly on my face and I soon find it tightening up my face. Normally my nose starts to itch now- don't you just hate that! I think it shows it's working. I allow it to stay on for about 8 to 10 minutes and by now it's dried to a tight peachy coloured film on my skin. When it first goes on it's really creamy so it doesn't dry thinly.

I don't peel this off; it's more of a rinsing in cool water and using some cotton balls to remove the areas where the mask is thick. Whether it would peel in a strip if I left it longer is debatable, I know what suits my skin. Now I must admit my skin feels very tight and stretched with a warm reddish glow that subsides very quickly. My face feels cleaner and looks cleaner close up. At this point I'll rub in some skin tonic or if I'm using it, an anti-aging serum. For me the jury is still out on that product, so I'm more likely to rub on some moisturizer or night cream if I'm doing the full routine.

The result is visible to me and I feel the benefit of allowing myself some girly time. When my daughter was still home we used to do this together, now we might spend some time after swimming and a sauna on the rare occasions we see each other. I think the time spent relaxing is as important as the product but it helps to have one you like. This one works well for me so I wonder why I don't do this more often. I guess women are the same everywhere, our beauty regime becomes less important as we age and this is when we need to spend time looking after our skin, it's the only one we get to live in after all.

A five star recommendation from me, this is a lovely, rich creamy product that doesn't sting, smells gorgeous and doesn't break the bank. I think I paid about £4 for mine, I'm not sure as I bought some other things as well.

      Thanks for reading.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Have you ever tried a ‘peel off’ facemask? No? Oh, you should they’re great fun! I have just used the one from the Avon Naturals Range called Avon Peel Off Mask with Grapefruit, containing extract of pink grapefruit. It is suitable for all skin types even sensitive skin, and it smells nice too. It is made by Avon Cosmetics and available either direct from Avon or from your Avon representative. It costs round about £3 for a 75ml tube. I would guess that, used properly, you would get about ten applications from a tube, so it’s good value. To use it I first put a hair band on to keep what hair I do have off my face. I then cleansed my face as instructed and applied a coat of the facemask all over my face and under my chin. I then had to wait twenty minutes until it had dried and I could gently peel the whole thing off. You’ve seen the horror films where someone peels their face off haven’t you? Well, you get the idea! As with any other facemask you have to keep your face relatively still while the mask is drying or it comes away from your face forming a dry layer, which obviously reduces its effectiveness. The other thing to be aware of is that you should not put too much on in the first place or will not dry out properly. I put a thin layer over most of my face but rather more than I should have done on my cheeks. This area didn’t dry out properly and I had to wash it off with warm water rather than peel it off as I did with the rest of the mask. I had used the mask as I was going out somewhere special and my skin felt very lifeless. The facemask was just what I needed as it made my skin feel really clean, fresh and tingly. The only thing I would say is – don’t answer the door while you’re wearing it you could frighten someone to death!

My skin is incredibly sensitive, more so since I became a victim of M.E., and I generally find myself suffering a bad reaction to most of Avon's products which can be quite harsh on my skin. Not so this one, it's a pure delight and I've never had any problems with rashes or sensitivity... The product is a delicious peel-off mask, with one of the most refreshing fruitiest fragrances I've come across! It is also very effective, in fact, sometimes scarily so! Before applying the mask, make sure that your skin is thoroughly cleansed and apply the mask lightly to all areas avoiding the eyes. Leave the mask to dry and set for about 20 minutes or so and then just peel it off (almost like clingfilm, it's clear too!) and observe with horror the dry skin cells and impurities glued to the mask!! I was amazed at how much 'yucky stuff' had been removed from my face and my skin felt smooth, refreshed and renewed after using the product, and all ready for my usual daily mosituriser. This is a nice inexpensive little product which does the job without costing an arm and a leg! Oh, and that refreshing fruity smell.....always gives me a boost!!
