Advantages: smells nice, absorbs easily, softens skin
Disadvantages: leaves my skin dry
I recently got a little sun burned from one of the few nice Sunday's we had through taking full advantage of the nice weather, sitting outside and being silly, not putting on sun tan lotion. To try and combat dry peeling skin I've been moisturising non-stop but inevitably My skin did unfortunately start to peel. The moisturising body lotion I was using ran out and I remembered that my partner had bought me some of this Avon Skin so soft dry oil body spray and decided to give it a go.
Now I must mention that at the moment, this particular dry oil spray is available on the avon website for only £1.50 which is a bargain for anyone who does want to try it - RRP £5.20, but I'll let you decide after reading my review.
I'm a firm believer that what works for one person may not necessarily work for another, it's like perfumes, every perfume settles differently and what suits one person, may not smell quite the same on another, and I have the same belief about body lotions and sprays and all other beauty products.
***About Skin so Soft***
Skin so soft is a product brought to us consumers by the very well known brand Avon. To be honest I've never really bought Avon products in the past, but this particular body spray has a reputation for being an excellent midgie repellent and as my partner and I spend pretty much all of our holiday time on the West Coast of Scotland where midgie's are rife, my partner decided this would be a good purchase for the two of us, as I get bitten quite badly while we're away on our trips. The reason it's supposed to be a good midgie repellent is due to the fact the the oil has citronella in it which helps to repel the scottish beasties. The product itself is a dry oil body spray....described by Avon as non-greasy and quick absorbing in a convenient spray which locks in moisture after a bath or shower.
Skin so soft dry oil spray comes in a 150ml bottle with the branding very easy to read on the front of the bottle and is small enough to fit in your handbag for easy transport, but to be honest this isn't the sort of moisturiser I would take anywhere with me as it really is intended for use after you've showered.
***Using Skin so soft dry oil body spray***
The spray itself is very easy to use. Taking the plastic cap off the pump unit, just simply depress the pump and the liquid sprays out onto your skin. According to the instructions, a light spray is sufficient coverage for moisturisation but what I've actually found is that I have to spray the product quite liberally over my body to be satisfied that my skin is fully covered. Although the product is described as non-greasy, I'm afraid I have to disagree, although not nearly as greasy as Johnsons baby oil, this oil does have a slippery grease element to it, and I find that after a few squirts and a little rub in, my hand starts to slip off the bottle, making the application somewhat difficult, so when using I just spray everywhere that I need too and then work on rubbing it in.
***How easily is it absorbed***
The product leaves a nice sheen on my skin but appears to be completely absorbed after only a few minutes, however after a couple of hours I can see the dry patches of skin creep to the surface again so the moisturising elements of the product don't last very long.
***The smell***
When the product is first sprayed I think it is very potent and quite chemically smelling, however, once the oil settles I get the loveliest scent of sweet talcolm powder which I really enjoy, and this smell lingers for a considerable amount of time, at least 5 hours, so long after the moisturising properties have stopped working, the scented element continues....which would be good if this product was intended as a scented body spray.
***How long with 150mls last***
Well it's been a few weeks since I stupidly got myself sun burned and even though I use the product quite liberally on a daily basis after my shower I'd like to say that there's still a substantial amount left in the bottle, so my guess would be that a whole bottle will last up to a month, possibly more.
***Where to buy skin so soft***
As indicated previously, skin so soft is an Avon product, so the best place to buy it is from the Avon catalogue or website and is at the bargain price of £1.50 at the moment compared to it's usual £5.30. When my partner bought this product for me, he actually sourced it at the craigdon mountain sports shop for the not so appealing price of £6.49 which to be perfectly honest I would not pay again for this product. Most outdoor stores stock this product at varying prices, so if you have a tiso or stores such as this nearby then you can easily pick up a bottle, for a substantial sum of money.
***My overall thoughts and opinion***
I do love the settled smell of this product but unfortunately have found that it just doesn't work as well as I feel it should given the overall cost -does it repel midgies!?! to be honest I couldn't honestly say if this product is the greatest product in the world for repelling midgies as I have not used it while in the west coast, and given my experiences don't intend to use again after it's finished, so from that stand point I can't really give an honest opinion. Overall, not a product I would mention if you're looking for something with good moisturising properties.
Summary: the dry in dry oil is very appropriate
