“ Brand: Avon / Type: Facial Serum / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types „
A friend's Granddaughter had started selling Avon products to make some spending money so when her Gran asked me if I'd like a book I felt I had to see what I could buy to help the credit crunch.
I really like Clarins and No 7 products so was unsure about trying Avon cosmetics but thought buying hand cream and shower gel was safe enough. One month I noticed they had Skin so Soft ultra serum with silkening pearls on offer, and as I normally use body lotion every day I thought I would try the serum and see if it made my skin any softer.
The product arrived, it stands on its white plastic flip lid and measures about 13cm high. Made out of clear plastic you can see how much is left. The serum is clear and has tiny pink beads suspended throughout it. It contains 150mls in the bottle, which has lasted a long time.
On the back in minute letters it says that it is formulated with Vitamin E and other emollients. The silkening pearls quickly dissolve into the skin to melt away dryness. It is suitable for all skin types and is very easy to use as the instructions say smooth all over body.
The fragrance is "soft and sensual" and is part of a range of creams, lotions and gels. It is really pleasant and fresh smelling, and lingers on the skin for quite a while, but I haven't told you what it feels like when applying have I?
After showering and drying I opened the lid and squeezed out a little of the serum, it was quite a thick gel and had little pearls in it and even some miniscule pink dots. A little goes a long way so don't squeeze out too much at a time! I smoothed it over my arms and discovered the little pink beads were still there. It looked as if I had measles! With more pressure the beads popped and a streak of pink soon was rubbed in, occasionally I need to use my nail to pierce a stubborn bead. It felt quite greasy, but as I use a serum on my face I recognised the feel of the serum and it certainly made my skin feel smooth. Care needs to be taken as sometimes a bead has fallen off onto the bath mat and when squashed I had a pink stain on the bath mat! After 5-10 minutes the slightly stickiness disappears, leaving my skin feeling great all day. My legs tend to be very dry but when using the serum my skin feels soft and moisturised all day.
For a couple of weeks I used the serum every day but as my skin has improved I have been using other products as well and using the serum about 3 days a week.
As with most Avon products you can pay full price some weeks and snap up a bargain on other weeks, I am glad I bought it at £2.50 and it is on their website at the reduced price at the moment but the full price is £5.
If you have dry skin and want to have really silky feeling skin this summer then I can recommend this product it does what it says, smells nice and is a great price. The only disadvantage is the odd un-burstable pink pearl!
My mam is an Avon rep so I tend to be given a lot of Avon gifts. After mentioning that I like the scent of the Avon Skin So Soft range, I seem to be getting a fair few of their products sent in my direction! One such product was the 'Ultra Serum with Silkening Pearls'.
Described as being 'Formulated with Vitamin E and other nourishing emollients plus silkening pearls that quickly dissolve into skin to melt away dryness' I was tempted. My skin is very dry and in cold weather becomes very flaky and unattractive, so anything that would combat that is welcome.
The packaging of the product is fairly plain, being a clear tube with the pink Skin So Soft logo on the front. I think what is the most attractive about this, is the fact you can see the clear serum inside which is full of little pink beads, which look like tiny pink bubbles suspended in the gel. It looks quite pretty and just a little bit different from your regular moisturiser.
When it came to using the product, I did find one obvious flaw in the packaging. The serum is very runny, however the first time I attempted to use this I didn't realise just how runny. I squeezed the tube which turns out to have been a pretty bad mistake, and I literally ended up dispensing a quarter of the tubes contents in one go. It seems that because the serum is so runny, you just need to open the tube and the tiniest amount of pressure will cause it to flow out freely, which means dispensing it becomes a nightmare operation. Given its consistency I can't help think the product would be much better suited to a bottle.
When it came to applying the serum, I found it to feel quite greasy against my skin. It is fairly easy to rub it in and thankfully starts to sink in quite quickly once on the skin. Now as mentioned, the product contains so called silkening pearls. These are little baby pink beads which are scattered throughout the serum. The first time I used this, I was quite surprised to find that these little beads just lay on the top of my skin and didn't dissolve as they were supposed to. It kind of looked like I was covered in pink hundreds and thousands!! I have found that you have to apply quite a bit of pressure to the skin to actually pop the beads, and they won't actually dissolve on their own. At best you will be left with pink smears which can be rubbed into your skin - at worst I've found that the beads will pop and you will be left with a sort of empty pink shell of a bead sitting on your skin! Very bizarre and I'm sure not attractive.
If we put the disaster that is the 'silkening pearls' aside, I've found that once rubbed into the skin this sinks in fairly quickly and is completely dry within about 2-3 minutes, although while waiting for it to dry it can be a little sticky which is not the most pleasant experience ever.
The scent of the product is the same as the others from the Skin So Soft and Sensual range from Avon. I actually really like the scent - it's soft, quite floral and slightly powdery, although my mother who gives me these products says it's awful, so I guess it's just personal taste. The scent does linger on the skin for quite some time after use, which for me is a good thing.
As for 'melting away dry skin' I have found that this is quite effective at eliminating dry patches of skin. It leaves my skin feeling soft and supple and I've been applying it to my elbows fairly regularly as they get especially dry in winter.
A 150ml tube of this is usually £5 from Avon but is currently on special offer of just £2.
Although this does have a few redeeming features, I will not be buying a replacement when this one runs out. I found using it too much of a chore - the pearls looked good, but turned out to be a pain in the neck and I don't like the greasy feeling when first applied, so I will be going for something else in future.
I bought this product recently as a promotion was on within the skin so soft range at avon. This looked different and sounded silky so i thought i'd give it a try. I applied the product after a shower and at first was impressed but later a little disappointed. The product comes out in a gel like form with small pink moisturising beads and the end result is not too dissimilar to putting baby oil on before you step out of the shower. I put it onto my legs and it made them feel very silky but once i had finished appying the product although i smelt nice and felt very mousturised it took so long to dry that I had to put my clothes on even though I was still sticky. I may have used a little much I am not sure but it is generally quite a sticky product and i prefer the dry oil body spray and lotions they do with the same fragrance
I have always like the skin so soft range from Avon especially the pink soft and sensual scented products, which have a light fragrance that smells quite pure, and a bit like baby powder. I bought the ultra serum with silkening pearls as a treat as it sounded more luxurious than the ordinary body wash and was on offer at £2.50 (usually £5.00).
It comes in a triangular bottle with a flip top lid and contains 150ml of clear jelly body wash with pink beads (silkening pearls).
I was looking forward to using this product, as it sounds so luxurious however I was bitterly disappointed.
I squeezed a good amount into my shower scrunchie and started to wash myself but it just wouldn't lather up at all. I then proceeded to use half the bottle to try and get some froth to no avail so I squeezed some in my hand, as it just seemed to dissolve into the scrunchie?
It was like a greasy thick liquid that I had to try rub around my skin, which left me looking like a car that had just been waxed with the water running off my skin in droplets.
I didn't feel like I had cleaned myself at all however my skin did feel much smoother afterwards and smelt fresh and clean but it just wasn't a very good shower experience
I actually threw the rest of the bottle away after this shower as it just annoyed me so much I do hate wasting things but I couldn't bear trying to wash myself with this again. Personally I would not recommend this to anyone there are much better products out there at a fraction of the price. I stick to the Avon Senses shower gel now.
