Advantages: A fair cleanser!
Disadvantages: The cleansing agent fails to live up to its hype!
Product ~ 'Focus 90% of your time on solutions and only 10% of your time on problems'
The cleanser comes in a soft plastic 200ml tube. The product's design is partly pearly cream and part sky blue shading, with images of snowflakes to depict the 'winter' references of the facial wash. Avon promotes this cleanser as 'suitable for sensitive skin'. The reverse side of the product notes that this wash 'gently cleans winter damaged skin with the foaming cleansing cream. Lifts away impurities without leaving skin feeling dry. Packed with conditioners and soothers, it makes skin feel clean and healthy looking'. Well, this can be rather a precarious statement because there are so many variables for 'healthy looking skin'!
The comment continues on how 'to use: use daily, lather into wet hands, or on washcloth. Gently massage onto moistened skin. Rinse thoroughly with warm water and pat dry', with a warning to avoid product getting into contact with eyes. I do not use soap or similar cleansing products to wash my face. I cleanse my face with hypoallergenic facial cleansers and soft wipes before washing my face. For washing my face, I simply use a soft cotton wash cloth and warm water. But after seeing this product in Avon's campaign brochure 15, I thought 'hey, live life on the edge, give it a go'!
Usage Experience ~ 'I believe that if you show people the problems and you show them the solutions they will be moved to act'
1) Following the instructions, and without following my usual routine of cleansing my face prior to applying this product, I began the process. First I tried using the cream on my washcloth. I wet my face with warm water, flipped the cap up and applied around a desert spoon of the cleanser onto the pre-moistened cloth, and gently massaged the pure white cream onto my face. With gentle circular movements I carefully washed my face. But I soon realized that the product didn't have a very good foaming action at all. But I continued to use this method until my face and forehead had been covered, avoiding the eye areas. This cleansing agent comes out of the tube in a very thin stream with a fluid consistency. It has a subtle clinical odour, similar to cream hair removers.
2) The purifier is fairly easy to remove with a dampened wash cloth but just takes a little longer to dissipate due to its moisturizer effect. Disappointed with the wash cloth method of application, I decided to use my hands.
3) After my face was completely clear of the first process, I made sure my skin was well moistened with warm water again. This time, I adopted the same amount as before, but into the palm of my wet hand. I attempted to lather the thin cream up, but it simply felt like trying to foam up a normal face cream! Therefore, I just applied the cleanser onto my face, with the same rotating movements as before. No lather, no foaming, just a spreading of the lotion! After my face had been covered with the solution, I proceeded to carefully wash off with my hands and warm water. This seemed to take even longer than the face cloth, so I used the wash cloth to remove the excess until my face was clear. I then used plenty of warm water to ensure the agent had been completely removed.
After gently patting my face dry with a soft towel, I noticed a tacky feel to my skin. Although my skin felt and looked clean, the tacky feel made it feel tight and dry. I had to apply a rich moisturizer soon after to take the negative feeling away. As for 'healthier looking skin, there was no difference to how it looked before. Because of the astringent ingredients, this cleanser cannot be safely used on or around the eyes; therefore, cosmetic agents for this purpose need to be applied first! The facial wash does remove foundation and lipstick well, but residues of other cosmetics are noticeably left.
Recommend? ~ 'It's so much easier to suggest solutions when you don't know too much about the problem'!
Well, I'm in a quandary here. My skin is of average sensitivity. I don't need to be particularly wary of cosmetics but the more powerful astringent cleansers must be avoided as my skin reacts to these. This cleanser didn't cause me any negative reactions other than the tightness and dehydrating effects I mentioned. It does a fair job as a cleansing agent, though struggles with waterproof and similar cosmetics residues. Avon stipulates that the product 'lifts away impurities without leaving skin feeling dry. Packed with conditioners and soothers, it makes skin feel clean and healthy looking', but my skin is left feeling dry and does not feel soothed after usage; but, my skin is over half a century old! Perhaps this may be more suited to younger women. I will be returning to my old trusted method, and therefore, do not feel comfortable recommending this product!
If you do decide you'd like to give this a try, I ordered this from the campaign 15 brochure via my Avon representative. But the product can be purchased through the Avon web site as well as many other online sites for around £3 on offer.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review on Avon's Solutions winter fabulously clean cleanser. I hope it has been beneficial :~) xXx
Summary: A couple of controversial ingredients leave the skin feeling taunt and dry but cleansed to a degree!
