“ Brand: Avon / Type: Facial Gel / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types „
I received this Avon Spotlight moisturising shimmer gel from my mother, who is an Avon representative. From what I remember, she had been able to get it cheap in one of the representatives' brochures.
~ Packaging ~
It comes in a fairly plain clear tube, which stands on its flip cap lid.
The word, 'Spotlight' is written on the front in silver dots. Underneath are the words, 'Moisturising shimmer gel' in smaller grey lettering and then 'Avon' is written underneath that.
The back of the tube lists the ingredients, advises that the packaging is recyclable and contains 150ml of product.
To use the product the packaging advises to 'smooth lavishly over body for a subtle sexy glow.'
You can see the product through the plastic tube. It is white with a lot of shimmer in it.
~ In use ~
I didn't really think this would be a product that I would use as I feel like, at 26, I am a bit old to look 'glittery'.
I hadn't used the product up until recently when I was sorting through all of my beauty products and I decided to give it a go.
To be honest, I couldn't really think what to do with it. I decided I'd put some on my shoulders to see how that looked.
I was surprised to see that it didn't produce a glittery, childish look like I had expected, but it gave my shoulders a subtle shimmer. It looked okay and I could pull it off, but it didn't blow me away.
The product is quite a runny liquid, containing a fine shimmer.
I then decided to try some on my legs. When I go out I often wear natural coloured tights with a gloss or sheen so I was interested to see how this shimmer compared.
It looked quite good on my legs, but again nothing too special and I found the shimmer was very concentrated on my hands which I had used to rub this in. I couldn't rub this off onto my legs or shoulders. I had to wash it off.
On my legs the shimmer looked good, but I still prefer the effect of glossy tights.
I think I'd have to be feeling brave to wear this on my legs in public, unless I was on holiday where no-one I know can see me and remind me in the future of my potential 'fashion mistake'.
I think it is okay on my shoulders as it is quite subtle and doesn't look ridiculous.
I found the shimmer is easily washed off in the shower.
Something else I found about the shimmer gel is that is smells really nice. It has a floral-woody scent, which is really familiar, but I can't put my finger on what it smells like. It has a feminine and sophisticated scent. I really love the scent of it.
Looking it up, I have discovered that this shimmer gel was released alongside a fragrance called Spotlight, which explains it. Before working that out I hadn't been expecting it to be scented at all. There is nothing on the tube to indicate that it is scented. The scent lingers on my skin for a while after application.
After seeing a picture of the Spotlight fragrance bottle online I do remember it, but I didn't own it so I still don't know why this shimmer gel smells so familiar.
~ Price and availability ~
Avon no longer sell this product, but it is still available to buy from ebay for between £3.00 and £5.00.
~ Conclusion ~
I will give this shimmer gel another go, but I will not be buying another tube once I have used mine up.
I might consider tracking down the matching fragrance as it smells absolutely gorgeous. I love the scent of it and it produces quite a nice effect, but it is nothing too special.
This is a review ofAvon Spotlight Shimmer Gel, a product I received as a gift this Christmas. I didn't know at the time but it is part of a fragrance range from Avon.
The tube of shimmer gel is fairly normal with silver letters that pick out the name 'spotlight' and a shimmery pearlised plastic lid. The lid is a flip top which is good as it clicks shut and the product sits upside down on the lid but doesn't escape the fixture. You can also see how much product is left with the clear tube which is 150ml in size. When you get to the end of the tube you are able to get every last bit of the product as it sinks to the mouth of the tube and doesn't cling to the inside of the bottle. You can also unscrew the cap for an extra squeeze at the end which is good.
You can still pick up this item on ebay for £1.99 plus postage, but on the Avon website it states that this item is no longer available. This is a shame if you were particularly taken with the Spotlight scent and I know that Avon have to keep putting new products in their catalogue to make it interesting but it does seem that if you stray away from their main lines (like skin so soft) your stay can be brief!
My first thoughts upon using this product were in line with the fragrance, unaware it was part of a line I just thought it smelt a bit plastic but that seemed to fade quite quickly. The first five minutes are also very sticky until the product sinks in. The glitter in the shimmer is very fine so it is quite a subtle effect and it looks lovely in the tube but it does seem to drop off the skin quite quickly.
I didn't really like the consistency of the gel, it was a bit too runny and thin but maybe that's because I am used to using thicker body lotions and body butters. I thought the colour of it, a whitish grey looked a bit like glue (or worse!) which is not a nice thought when you are rubbing it into your body.
If you try and like this product I would stock up on it a bit as there is no guarantee it will be available again in the future. I didn't really feel that the gel had long lasting or even short term moisturising properties. It felt quite cool on application so may be an ideal holiday item for a bit of evening shimmer. The scent is actually OK once it calms down a bit but I don't think I'd be bothered about owning the perfume in the range.
I wasn't sorry to finish this tube and with the stickiness, not very moisturising and almost non-existent shimmer, I am not really surprised that Avon have ceased production of this product.
Last Christmas my sister got me a few bits and bobs from Avon to go with my main present and one of the items that she gave me was the spotlight moisturising shimmer gel.
The gel comes in a clear plastic tube which stands on a clear plastic lid. Through the tube you can see the gel which is a shimmering white colour and it is this combined with the silver writing going down the tube which makes me think of Christmas time as it looks somewhat festive to me.
As I mentioned the actual gel is a shimmering white in colour and the reason for this is that it is full of tiny silver glitter particles. As you put some of the gel on your hand ready to apply the product to your body I can guarantee that you will be amazed by the amount of glitter! What is nice though is that as you rub the gel on your body whilst a little bit of the glitter stays on your skin the bulk of it remains on the hand you used to rub it in so you are not left totally covered in glitter!
Rubbing the gel on to my body I am always surprised at how cold the gel feels initially-much like the feeling I get when I apply ibuprofen gel to my knee! The gel is easy to apply to the body though and it is quickly absorbed by the skin. I have to say that whilst my skin feels soft after application it doesn't really feel any softer than it normally does and so I am not too sure about the moisturising qualities of the product. What I do love though it the subtle shimmer my skin had after using this product and so I don't particularly care that my skin doesn't feel more moisturised than usual.
What I love the most about this product is the scent. The reason that I like this scent is that it is just really sweet and feminine. Initially as you rub the gel you can smell the alcohol in the product but this settles down very quickly and you are left with the sweet perfume scent on your skin. Sadly this only really lingers for an hour or two which is a shame because it is a really lovely scent.
Obviously as an avon product you are most likely to find it in avon but having looked online it doesn't seem they are offering it at the moment! Typical! Places such as ebay and other online sellers do seem to have the 200ml bottles for around £1.99 though so I would say definitely look out for it-especially near to Christmas when avon may stock it again.
Thank you for reading my review!
