Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel
Advantages: soothes, cools and replenishes
Disadvantages: slightly on the expensive side, especially the smaller size bottle
I always have a bottle of Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel in the house, I find that it actually has a multitude of uses. With obviously the most popular one being sunburned skin. I will normally buy it from Boots here in the UK, or if we happen to have run out prior to a holiday I will normally wait and buy it from Walmart or Target in the US as it is much cheaper over there. Boots do currently have a 'buy one get one free' offer on Banana Boat and Hawaiian Tropic products at the moment though.
The Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel comes in two different sizes; a 230g squeezy bottle which is the bottle pictured above, I like this smaller size as it is much more portable to carry around with you during the day and just pop in your bag, it's really handy for using on the go, this retails for £5.99 in Boots. And a 453g large bottle with a pump dispenser which retails for £7.99 in Boots, this size is much better value for money, however you can't really carry this one around with you, but it's perfect to keep at home or in your hotel room whilst on holiday.
Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel is as the name suggests a gel, and it's literally bright green in colour. It has a gorgeous subtle aloe vera fragrance, which does linger on your skin ever so slightly after you've applied the gel. The gel sinks into your skin instantly on application, and it doesn't feel greasy or sticky at all, you can get dressed straight away after applying this, you don't need to wait for it to dry. The gel feels instantly cooling and refreshing on your skin when you apply it, and it does feel very soothing and hydrating. I always keep my aloe vera gel in the fridge for an extra cooling and soothing effect, the only slight drawback to keeping it in the fridge is that it will make you jump slightly when you then apply it, especially if it's onto red sunburned skin.
Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel contains pure aloe vera which is known for its soothing and healing properties. It has many uses; it soothes dry sunburned skin, it moisturises dry rough or chapped skin, it cools and replenishes dry skin, it helps prevent peeling, it helps soothe sensitive skin problems, it soothes skin irritations, it softens dry rough and weathered skin, it will relieve sunburned or windburned skin.
I find that the gel is perfect for burns of any kind, not just sunburn, if I've burned myself maybe on the oven shelf or with my ghds then this is instantly cooling and soothing on the burn and really helps to heal it. I also find that this is brilliant on insect stings and bites, it really takes the sting and the itch out of the bite and calms it right down, again helping to heal it.
I've been buying and using Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel for a number of years now, and I will definitely continue to do so. It's a little miracle gel as it is suitable for so many things, it has superb soothing, cooling and moisturising properties, and it's something that I definitely wouldn't be without.
