      Moisturising with minerals

I was lucky recently when I found a Bare Minerals set in TK Maxx containing skincare for just £12.99. The Purely Nourishing Moisturizer was included in a generous 30ml tube (I thought that was good for a travel set) and the box promised it as suitable for combination skin.

      The claim
This is a light weight moisturiser from Bare Minerals Purely Nourishing Moisturiser for Combination Skin. Designed to leave your skin feeling firmer, more elastic, radiant and improved skin texture.

Leave your skin feeling pampered with Bare Minerals Purely Nourishing Moisturiser for Combination Skin. Powered by RareMineals ActiveSoil Complex, it delivers an electrolyte system formulated to provide the skin with the perfect amount of hydration for combination skin.

      First impressions
the tube has a very large black lid that the product inside can sit on. When you screw off the lid there is a clean nozzle that enables the smallest amount to be squeezed out. It is nice and hygenic and easy to use. The label is clear to read and it advises that the cream can be used at day and night.

      In use
I like to use a light moisturiser in the morning underneath my make up and the bare minerals formula is perfect for this. It leaves skin soft and fresh and doesn't pill or stay greasy on the face.

      My thoughts
I'm not sure what I think about the soil but the bare minerals are all made from natural sources so soil must be one of them!

This moisturiser left my skin feeling younger and and I like that it is formulated without parabens, synthetic fragrances and artificial oils. I could happily use this every day although I prefer a thicker night cream.

      How much?
A 50 ml tube is £27 on the Look Fantastic website.

      A good enough moisturiser

I received this bottle of moisuriser as part of a basket of mixed branded beauty products my husband put together as a Christmas present. He had been buying the occasional item through the year, having been with me too many times when I had examined such products in the shop and then put them back on the shelf too many times as I did not really wish to spend money on myself. I guess he figured that if he bought these items for me, he would not need to be present when I "shopped" for them as I would no longer need to do so. We have been together for many years, so it was no surprise that my husband correctly selected a product suitable for combination skin. I had expected my skin to normalise or certainly no long be "combination" by the time I achieved the age of 40. Sadly this has not been the case.

BareMinerals is a branded product from the San Francisco-based company Bare Escentuals. Apparently they are always interested in meeting their customers; everyone is welcome at their Tuesday morning coffee time according to the company's website.

Like similar products, this moisturiser is suitable for twice-daily use. This 50ml pump-action bottle is nicely presented, but not markedly different from other products available. The pump dispenser is housed under a black cap which is easily removed. The consistency of the product is thin and non-greasy to touch. The company describes this as "a lightweight moisturiser that effectively hydrates skin while improving firmness and radiance". I agree that it is lightweight, and it does moisturise my skin without leaving it greasy. I am unsure of its radiance-inducing ability and I dispute that it improves firmness. I am pleased that it does not seem to induce any acne breakouts and it has reduced some of the dry skin peeling on my cheeks.

The most noticeable feature of this moisturiser is a somewhat unpleasant smell that lingers for a while. This is a good-enough moisturising item for me. That is, I am happy enough to continue using the bottle I have but am unlikely to purchase it myself as I prefer my regular products at least for now.
