Benefit Triple Performing Facial Emulsion
Advantages: It's light, hydrating and non oily
Disadvantages: It's not hydrating enough for dry or mature skin
I have oily skin and it causes me to look greasy and brings out blemishes. I still have to moisturise because I want to keep my skin looking younger for longer and I do have a few dry areas but I always ensure that my moisturisers are oil free. I am a massive fan of Benefits cosmetic range but was yet to dabble with their skincare range so when I ran out of my previous moisturiser, I thought it was time to take the plunge and I bought the Triple Performing Facial Emulsion by Benefit
What does the product do?
The product is an emulsion rather than a moisturiser which simply means that it is very light and it promises to perform three actions. It promises to hydrate the skin, provide it with some comfort and also to protect the skin. The formula is oil free and it contains SPF 15 so it will protect your skin from sun damage and premature aging too.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied in the same way as a normal moisturiser. After cleansing and toning, you dispense a small amount of the product onto your fingertips or onto the back of your hand and then massage the emulsion into the face and neck, taking care to avoid the eyes. You can then apply your make up in the usual way. The product can be used daily.
Packaging and Price
Benefit spends a lot of time and energy making their packaging look special and eye catching. This product is no different. It is housed in a see through glass bottle and it has a pretend cork screw top. It looks expensive and quite vintage. When the lid is removed, you see the dispenser which is to be pushed in order to release the product. The product will cost you around £19 for 50ml of the emulsion which is very expensive considering the Simple moisturiser I was replacing only costs around £4. It can be bought from any department store with a Benefit counter and a few online websites.
Aroma and Appearance
The product has quite a strong smell. It smell fresh but it's quite overpowering for a facial moisturiser and I would prefer it to come fragrance free. The emulsion is white in colour and light in consistency.
One pump releases the right amount of product for my face and neck, although sometimes I need to use a little bit more. The emulsion has a light formula so it doesn't feel heavy or greasy on the skin at all. The product is absorbed by my skin quickly and with minimal effort so you don't need to excessively rub the skin and cause wrinkles. My skin is ready immediately after application for me to apply my make up so there is no hanging around.
The product does give a light hydration to the skin that is just right for those with oily skin. The product is a little bit too light for the dry areas of my face on my forehead and nose but if I use a bit more in that area, it usually does the trick. I also don't think it would be hydrated enough in the winter. As for the 'warmer' months in this country, this is quite good because it is light yet offers sun protection although I haven't been able to test out the effectiveness of this yet as we haven't had any sun. If it doesn't stop me from burning however, which I assume it has to if it says it will, then I would purchase the product for that reason alone because it is so much lighter than putting a sun lotion on my face.
It doesn't leave a sheen or any greasiness on my face which I really like because I certainly don't need any help to make my skin shiny. It leaves a nice surface on which to apply my make up and it does make my skin feel comfortable, removing feeling of tightness. It hasn't caused any irritations or blemishes on my spot prone skin. My skin does look bright and healthy after using this product and it feels soft and smooth to the touch.
All in all, whether you like this product or not will entirely depend on the type of skin that you have. If you have dry skin and you need a really hydrating moisturiser or you have mature skin, I wouldn't bother with this one. If you have oily or young skin, then this is light but efficient enough to keep your skin looking good and feeling moisturised. As I have the later type, I quite like this product and will continue to use it.
Summary: A light moisturiser that will work best on oily and young skins
