Advantages: Fairly inexpensive, does not dry out my skin, scent is nice (although this maybe the irritant)
Disadvantages: Irritates my skin slightly, does not foam up at all! really thick and slightly difficult to dispense
Botanics Moisturising Deep Clean Foam Normal or Dry Skin
I have been trying this product for about three weeks now and I bought it initially as I do have really dry skin (less so now that my eczema is nearly gone, but my skin is still really quite dry and sensitive) and I also wanted a foaming cleanser to work with my Clarisonic mia (previously reviewed).
- Product description (from boots.com)
"The Botanics range combines active plant extracts in carefully balanced formulations to give you the right product for your skin type. Botanics Moisturising Deep Clean Foam Normal or Dry Skin contains Rice Bran Protein which contains proteins which work to bind in moisture while conditioning and restoring skin, While Honey adds rich moisture to leave skin hydrated and feeling refreshed. Plant extracts at levels that really work, combined and formulated for unbeatable product performance. Naturally. Authenticated by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew."
- About the product
This foaming facial cleanser comes in a squeezy tube container and it contains 150ml of product. The container is clear so you can see how much cleanser there is left, which is useful. The product is dermatologically tested and it contains natural extracts authenticated by the Royal Botanical gardens, Kew. The cleanser is a creamy off white colour and on the container it does say that the colour of the cleanser can differ due to the natural extracts in the cleanser.
- Scent, texture and consistency
Firstly, the scent of the product; the scent of this product is really quite nice; it smells really fresh and floral. Although I adore floral scents, I do not like scents in skincare products as I find that scented skin care product irritate my sensitive skin (as this one does). Secondly, the texture of this product is really nice as it is very smooth so it glides onto my skin really quickly and easily, although there is a drawback to this product being so smooth as it can just slip off my hands after I have dispensed it. Lastly the consistency, the consistency of this product is good as it is really quite thick which makes it nice to apply to my skin but again this also makes it more likely to slide off my hands, as this product has done a few times - wasting product.
- Using the product and results
Firstly, while dispensing this product I noticed the gorgeous fresh, floral scent of the cleanser which is quite uplifting and summery. Also while dispensing the product the cleanser can slip off my wet hands, which is a waste of product and one of the negatives against this product in my opinion. I wet my face and hands with warm water and then I dispense a small amount of product into my palm. I dispense about a large pea sized amount into my palm and then I evenly distribute the cleanser over my hands. I then gently massage the cleanser into my skin and the first thing I notice is that this cleanser does not foam up! The name of this cleanser is "moisturising deep clean foam" and obviously I thought that it would foam up somewhat but it only creates the tiniest, tiniest amount of lather, which is quite disappointing and using this cleanser with my Clarisonic mia creates no lather/foam at all! Once I have massaged the cleanser into my skin, which hasn't foamed up at all, I then rinse it off either using a wet flannel or by splashing my face with warm water and then patting my face dry.
The results from this product overall are not very good at all! The first result that I notice is that this product irritates my skin slightly as it makes my skin tingly and itchy, which is not good as I have sensitive skin but I have persevered with this cleanser to write this review - after this review I will be using my newly acquired REN hydro calm cleansing gel which is fantastic. The other results from this cleanser are as follows: it does make my skin quite smooth and soft and my skin feels quite clean too. As this cleanser is quite moisturising I find that it does not make my skin feel tight or dry after using it, although I do have to apply my normal moisturising as soon as possible after using this cleanser to calm the irritation (the facial moisturisers I am using currently include: Simple rich facial moisturising and Eucerin 5% urea replenishing night cream, which are fantastic for my sensitive, dry skin).
- Price and availability
I bought this cleanser about three weeks ago and it can only be purchased from boots stores and boots.com and it is currently priced at £4.07 which is an unusually specific price! I will not be purchasing this cleanser again as it irritates my skin slightly and the does not lather up - which is disappointing as I thought that this product would be good/suitable for my sensitive, dry skin.
Conclusions
Positives
*Fairly inexpensive, available in boots (boots points) and contains some natural ingredients
*Does not dry my skin out but I definitely need to apply the same amount of moisturiser that I normally would
*Scent - although the gorgeous scent may be one of the reasons why this product irritates my skin
Negatives
*Irritates my skin slightly - tingling sensation and slight itching
*Does not foam up/lather up at all with my Clarisonic and it only produces the slightest amount of lather with my hands!
*The cleanser is very smooth, thick and has a gel like consistency and it can slide off my hands fairly easily - wasting product
Thank you for reading my review
Summary: I will not be buying this again :(
