“ Brand: Boots / Scrub / Type: Facial Scrub / Suitable for: Face / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Purifies, Exfoliates / Product line: Boots Botanics „
I havent used the Botanics range for years, and I was pleasantly surprised when a close friend of mine had given me this scrub, along with afew other facial products, as a gift. Im currently using a Liz Earle product to get rid of the old skin cells, which I enjoy using, but with it being quite mint based in smell and feeling, I thought this would be a nice contrast.
I didnt buy this, so I have checked on Boots.com couldnt find this exact one, but a simialr scrub cost £2.69, so if it still is available should be around that price point.
How is it packaged?
It comes in a 75ml plastic tube. Its see through with a pale green and white label around two thirds of the tube. Product comes out from the bottom of tube, which has a cap on it which flips open to allow product to come out when squeezed.
On the front it says that its for normal to oily skin, its called Botanics Purifying Face Scrub and its supposed to reveal a 'brighter complexion'. On the back it has ingredients list, how to use, and what its supposed to do. It also says that you have 24months from opening to use.
Aqua, Paraffinum liquidum, Cetyl alcohol, Glycerin, Steareth-2, Prunus armeniaca, Juglans regia, Quillaja saponaria, Steareth-21, Phenoxyethanol, Proylene glycol, Carbomer, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Potassium hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sorbitol, Limonene, Parfum, Linalool, Dipropylene glycol, Citronellol, Butylparaben, Ethylparaben, Isobutylparaben.
How to use
Gently massage onto wet skin and rinse off with warm water.
How did it look/Perform
It definitely looked like a scrub-creamy in colour with brown/red particles flowing through it. It smells just like I remember the other products in the Botanics range smelt like years ago, which is a clean slightly warm floral scent to it, which is pleasant and non offensive.
It had a decent thickness to it so you didnt feel when you applied it to your face it would literally just fall off, and it was very easy to put on the skin.
This is where I have to throw in a big negative. .... I know I can be alittle heavy handed when it comes to applying product, but I didnt go in with finger tips made of cement. I was actually quite gentle, yet when I rubbed the scrub into my face, it felt very rough and although I looked at the product before application and saw how big the beads were ( not huge ), they felt twice as big. The more I moved the product around the more rougher it felt and then my face felt very warm-too warm. So I stopped, and did the same motion so softly that I was hardly touching my face, and it felt much better.
Once I had finished, my skin did feel softer ( not surprising! ) and very clean I didnt experience any odd sensations afterwards ( thank goodness! ), so I could apply a mask as per usual.
Would I use this again? I would try it again and make sure it wasnt just my skin having an ' off ' day or check if the electrical connection between my brain and my hands was disconnected when I was using it. If niether of those apply, I wouldnt use again and I wouldnt buy it. Felt too rough and would suit my body rather than my face more
I have always been a fan of the botanics range at boots, i bought this product because i felt my skin needed some radiance and was told that exfoliating would help.
One of the reasons i love the botanics range is because it is suitable for sensitive skin i am unable to use anything perfumed even expensive brands makes me come out in a rash and itchy. This facial scrub is no different i can use it daily and i don't have any reactions.
Sometimes i find that exfoliaters can in away burn your skin as they are too harsh however this doesn't.
You only need to use a small amount and it goes a long away when i first started using it i always put on too much and ended up washing some away, a pea sized amount will do my face. It is really easy to apply and use just squirt into your palm and rub over your face using your finger tips, i go over my nose a lot to help remove blackheads. Make sure you don't go near your eyes as usual. Then simply rinse off.
I always follow with botanics moisturizer and i find the too together make my skin ultra soft.
An aspect i have always liked about the botanics range is because they are made with natural ingredients which i find are better for your skin than soap. I have never used soap on my face and I very rarely get spots.
This product is great value for money it works a treat and best of all it lasts for ages!
I have combination skin that is prone to sensitivity and redness so always approach new skincare products with caution.
I immediately liked the fact that this facial scrub is made without parabens as these can cause irritation to sensitive types like me.
The product itself comes in a plastic tube (of which at least 25% is made from recycled content) with a flip-top lid. It contains natural plant extracts that are meant to buff away impurities. The cream is light coloured with flecks of darker scrub.
To use it you must first cleanse your face. You then squeeze out a small amount and rub it in using your fingertips in circular motions.
Application is very easy and you can immediately feel the scrubs interacting with your skin. I would personally like it if the scrub the scrub content was slightly higher.
After 2 minutes, rinse your face well in warm water and pat dry. It is recommended that this be done 2-3 times per week.
I immediately felt the effects of this scrub and felt that my skin was smoother and brighter afterwards.
It is very refreshing and the scrub really does a good job of removing dead skin and impurities.
My skin was very red and warm for 1-2 hours after using it but this is a natural reaction.
I would happily recommend this product for people with combination/sensitive skin but I wouldn't include it in my morning routine.
I bought this recently from Boots as they had an offer on which gave you a 3rd off all botanics skin care products. I am a big fan of botanics but whenever I set out to buy one of their face scrubs or washes they were always sold out, so when I saw some on the shelf with a 3rd off I grabbed a couple!
The face scrub comes in a small squeezy bottle and stands on it flip off cap. The packaging has been redesigned now from the picture above and it is now part of the 'all bright' range for brightening up your skin and making it look radiant. The scrub itself is a dark creamy colour with little grey/brown flecks within it (the scrubbing particles!).
To use simply squeeze a small amount onto your fingers then work it into the (wet) face gently using circular motions. You can really feel the little scrubbing bits in this face scrub which I like, previously I have sed exfolitors that havent really exfoliated at all but you can really feel this one working. It easily rinses off and my face felt instantly smoother and very clean even before I had dried and cleansed/toned etc.
This scrub really does do its job well and gets rid of all those impurities and dried bits of skin, rough patches etc. My skin feels so much smoother and softer after use, especially when combined with other products from the botanics skin care range such as cleaner, toner and moisturiser. The packaging instructs you to use it once every two days, I tend to use this about twice a week and feel that is enough to keep my skin looking radiant and feeling soft.
I really cannot recommend this face scrub enough it really is one of the best I have ever used. I find tht I cant stop touching my own face after use as if feels so lovely and smooth and soft. If you suffer from dry, flaky or rough skin on your face or you just want something to wash away those impurities then definitely give this one a go!
The Boots Botanics range uses active plant extracts in their products to help protect and nourish the skin. Botanics Purifying Face Scrub is formulated for Normal/Oily skin which aims to leave skin clear and brighter by using plant extracts such as Quillaja which draws out impurities and Saponin to cleanse and help tone the skin naturally. Botanics Purifying Face scrub is only available at Boots with a RRP of £3.99 for a 75ml bottle.
The cream content of the scrub is fairly light, like a day moisturiser, It is fragrance free as is easily massaged across a wet face. The grains of exfoliante are lightly abrasive and quite gentle, the particles are small - about half the size of a grain of sugar. I would say that this exfoliant is suitable for sensitive skin due to the gentle nature of the grain. When I use this it doesn't sting or scratch the skin like some facial scrubs, it is washed of easily with water.
My skin doesn't feel tight after I have used this, my face feels softer. It also does look a little brighter as the scrub is effective in removing dead skin cells. I find this product only needs to be used once a week to help give the skin a boost, so a 75ml tube lasts a good few months.
This is a decent scrub for the price. I've had no issues with it and it takes off the dead skin cells which is all I desire. I didn't notice any other 'extras' from this product. If you are after an all-singing-all dancing scrub that does 5 jobs in one, this probably isn't for you, but if you want a basic scrub that is non-drying - you've found your one.
Boots Botanics Purifying Facial Scrub
*What is it?*
This is a facial scrub in the Boots Botanics range, it is a purifying facial scrub suitable for normal and oily skins. It contains Quillaja which helps to draw out impurities to reveal the brighter radiant complexion, although on the label it just states Quillaja Cleansing which I mistakenly thought it was some sort method of cleansing.
Quillaja is actually an some type of soap bar tree, the correct term is actually 'Quillaja saponaria' which means the soap bar tree. It is a type of evergreen tree found in the warm temperatures of central Chile. The inner bark of this type of tree can be used as a substitute for soap as a lathers well with water and is normally used as an additive in photographic films and foaming in drinks.
The saponin has also been used in various medicinal uses so I think this is the reason it is used here. The facial scrub claims to contain naturally exfoliating extracts to effectively draw out deep-rooted impurities without over drying the skin and helps to leave it clearer softer brighter.
* Does it work?*
Although I think it's fantastic facial scrub, I always have my reservations when the label states 'may' help from tone skin naturally and thoroughly. It really annoys me when companies make all these wonderful claims and then sneak the word 'may'into it. It's a bit like when they promote their sales '90% off'in big bold letters and then somewhere in the corner, then in the smallest font size possible it says'Up to'.
But to be fair, after using this I do feel that my skin looks brighter and clearer. Although I wouldn't say it gave thoroughly deep clean. This is good for as a general scrub, to be used twice a week, but if I need a really deep clean I usually use another much more effective facial mask.
I would only recommend using this only twice a week, and to use only a little bit each time because the granules are quite coarse and large. I find myself having to be very careful when I scrub my face because of the size of the granules so do you really need to be consciously gentle when using this on your face, particularly those people who have very delicate sensitive skin.
The scrub rinses out very well, no sticky residue and the granules generally wash away very well too. I use another facial scrub which is excellent for a deep clean but is a hassle to rinse out.
This facial scrub smells quite nice actually, although I still can't work out what is was so I think knowing that this contains extracts from the soap bark tree the scent is probably derived from this. The senses generally quite mild, very soothing surprisingly and would probably say I like the scent more than the scrub itself.
The facial scrub comes in a 75 ml tube and costs just over £4, I'm not too keen on this as I think this is a little expensive despite it being such a nice scrub. It used to cost only around £2 which I think is much better value, I was very hesitant about getting this for £4 but luckily the Botanics range was promotional offer so managed to get this free after buying two other products from the range!
A very nice effective facial scrub, you need to be gentle when using it, and a little expensive right now although definitely one to get when the promotional offers are going.
I have recently noticed the skin on my cheeks and forehead has been looking a bit dull and on occasion is a bit flakey.
When I saw this facial scrub on offer in Boots I thought I'd give it a try to see if it could help.
The facial scrub is packaged in a squeezy tube. It is the sort that has the lid at the bottom. I prefer these as the product comes out more easily. The tube is clear so you can see the scrub and this is useful so you can keep a check on how much you have got left.
The front simply says what the product is and that it is part of the Boots Botanics range. On the back it lists the ingredients and how to use the product.
It says to apply the scrub to wet skin using your fingertips. I tend to use it when I'm in the bath as it is easier.
When I squeeze a little of it onto my fingers I notice straight away that there are lots of hard bits. To me, this is a good sign as I like facial scrubs to actually scrub! I've tried some that are fine at washing but have no real scrub in them. Thankfully this one wasn't like that.
The cream is exactly that, very creamy and quite thick. Again, this is a good thing as it means it doesn't start to slide off my fingers instantly. It also stays on my face when applied rather than dripping off like some more watery ones I've tried.
When using this scrub I simply rub it into my skin and leave it on for a few minutes. To remove it I just use a wet sponge or flannel and it comes off very easily.
It leave my skin feeling refreshed. It isn't so abrasive that my skin feels sore but it does feel like it's had a good exfoliation. My skin doesn't feel tight or dried out after use.
This is my favourite face scrub as it actually does what it is meant to without any unpleasent side effects. I have sensitive skin and this product does not irritate my skin at all.
This face scrub is only available from Boots as it is part of the Boots Bontanics range. It currently costs £3.99 for a 75ml tube. However it is often on special offer so can be bought for cheaper.
