Advantages: Brilliant moisturisation, non-greasy, melts into the skin
Disadvantages: Possibly just the smell
For Christmas this year my lovely hubby bought me a gift pack of Boots Botanics 'The Power of Plants' Rebalance products. He'd left the price on the underside of the box so I know exactly how much the large green boxed gift pack cost (£25). I've tried everything in the set so far. Apart from the Body Butter, there was also the Refining Body Scrub, Reviving Body Wash and Revealing Body Polish. They are all lovely and each does a fabulous job in its own way. I use them all in conjunction with one another as I think this gives the best results with products such as these, besides, the instructions state that it's best to use them all at the same time for best results.
The tub of body butter comes in a large, full sized plastic tub with a twist off lid and it contains 300ml of product. It looks like the body butters from the Body Shop, except that this container is slightly higher, though width wise it's about the same size. My tub states on the front that this body butter contains a product called 'vetivir'. Vetivir wasn't something I'd actually heard of before I saw this product and when I looked more closely, I could see that all the products in the my gift pack contain it.
The product itself is actually a real treat to use. I've used a fair few different types of body butters before and I've liked some and not others. I think some of the cheaper ones can feel very greasy on the skin and I was a little concerned that this might be the case with this one as it does feel rather oily on the hands before you apply it to the skin.
Twisting the lid off, I can see the body butter is white in colour and shiny, gloopy yet strangely firm in consistency. I hate runny body butter. I used it tentatively at first as it's often difficult to gauge how much is best to use and my motto is usually 'less is more'. It's easy to apply more cream than it is to take any excess off.
Initially I applied it to the bottom area of my legs, below the knees and on the shins, as this is my driest area, especially at this time of the year when I've got the central heating turned up full blast. I'm also told that this is the one area of the body where we have less oil glands and so it's harder for us to replenish our stocks and for this reason it will dry out sooner than any other part of the body (apart from the lips, that is). The body butter went on like a dream. It immediately melted into my dry skin and it didn't feel at all greasy as I'd been worried it might.
The smell was probably the only thing I was a tiny bit disappointed with, if I'm honest. It smells like all the other products in this range. It's fairly non-descript, not unpleasant at all, but then nothing special either. It's a fresh smell, not what I'd describe as floral and certainly not overpowering or strong in any way. Although the smell is subtle, it nevertheless lingers for a long time after application.
This product apparently also contains cocoa butter, shea and coconut oil to hydrate and smooth out the skin. Sometimes the skin on my shins can feel itchy and flaky but this gorgeous cream has actually managed to remedy this for me and I feel as though it's really given my legs in particular, a good boost of long lasting moisture. There is no question that this body butter is doing my skin some good, as I can actually feel it making a difference and I have been using it every single night after my bath / shower. As I say, I've used all the other products in the pack at the same time though and I really also feel that this makes a tremendous difference in the efficacy of this product.
The packaging is very plain and even verging on boring and it's not something that would catch you eye in Boots. The body butter is available to buy in Boots as an individual item but I'm delighted I received men as part of this fabulous gift pack as it's allowed me to try it out with everything else in this range.
It's a super product, it works like a dream and I really do recommend it.
