Boots Essential Cucumber Face wash.
It comes in a 150ml squeeze container. It costs £1.50 from Boots, however I got it on offer 3 for £3 so was a bargain!
Directions for use are to wet face, squeeze a small amount into hands, lather up and then put onto face. It comes out as a light green colour with a very subtle scent. It smells very fresh and clean. It doesn't lather as well as some face washes but I'm not complaining, it still lathers!
It mixes well with the water on your face. Its nice and gentle and the scent isn't overpowering. With gentle rubbing it will remove most of my makeup. I do wear primer, concealer, 1 or 2 layers of foundation and powder so it gives it a good go removing this. I only find small traces left of makeup after washing but then as part of my skincare routine I follow with the cucumber toner from the same range.
My skin felt soft and refreshed. Its lovely to use, particularly after a long day. I have oily combination skin which can get a bit dry and this face wash doesn't leave my skin dry and tight like some do. It also doesn't cause me breakouts which is definitely a bonus.
Overall this face wash does the job. Its very gentle, doesn't cause breakouts or leave skin feeling dry or tight. Its cheap, at only £1.50 and is sometimes even on offers through Boots. Definitely recommend this product!
I am of my mature years and in my 50's, I have never used soap to wash my face for as long as I can remember and I take very good care of my skin. I use a cleanser or a facial wash but not general soap. I like to know my skin is in a good condition and for some people a soap bar is perfectly fine to wash the face but for my skin I prefer not to use it.
This facial wash is Boot's own brand, very cheap to buy and affordable. It comes in a plastic green tube with a flip back lid. The name is clearly on the front and no fancy design. The wash is a green coloured gel kind of liquid. It is fairly thick and rich and doesn't have a runny consistency like I imagined when I first bought it. It has a nice cucumber fragrance but not one that is too overpowering, it is a mild smell and really a pleasant one in my opinion. I do love the smell of cucumber items because they always smell refreshing. This one does have that refreshing smell. The tube fits also well in a cabinet in the bathroom and sits well on a surface too if that is where you like to store it.
It is easy to use by just squeezing a small amount on the fingers and then just gently massaging it into the skin, avoiding the eye area and also washing the neck area too, all over the face. It kind of has a few bubbles but not as many as soap produces but quite a few. I don't actually mind that it doesn't create too many bubbles but some people prefer more bubbles. It feels really nice and soft on the skin while massaging it. Has a kind of cooling feeling and one which feels really pleasant. The wash just glides across the skin and is really smooth and soft.
It is very easy to rinse from the face with warm water after a massaging for a minute or so. No longer is really needed with this wash. Once rinsed and patted dry, I find it has left my skin feeling nice and soft but I do find I have to use a moisturiser after drying my skin because I always use a moisturiser and with this wash, I certainly couldn't get away with not using a moisturiser, although it doesn't tend to dry the skin too much I do need to use one. I have very dry sensitive skin and a moisturiser works well to leave it feeling much softer and more comfortable. This wash hasn't irritated my sensitive skin or left it with any rashes etc. Just nice and clean and refreshed.
It contains enriched vitamins and of course cucumber. It claims to remove make up well but I find it doesn't remove my make up as well as some other brands. I am not pleased with the way it removes make up and I don't wear thick make up but I do find it doesn't remove it completely. I haven't used it to remove my eye shadow but for my foundation and blusher, I find it doesn't remove it in a way I like my make up to be completely removed. I just use it on the days I don't wear any make up and it cleans adequate enough and I use it in the shower too.
This wash is for all skin types and so suitable for any combination and one all the family could use. It would be certainly a nice one for teenagers both boys and girls in the family to use to begin experimenting with this kind of product and is cheap enough to buy too. I would also say it isn't a feminine wash and so it would be more than suitable for male members of the family too. I cannot comment if it is suitable for men because my hubby won't use a wash of this kind, he prefers to use soap.
It is also a gentle wash and not a harsh one on the skin, it is very soothing because of the cucumber ingredient and one I would buy again but just one to use to wash my skin and not to remove my make up.
The tube size is 150ml and it only costs £1.50 and so affordable for any budget in my opinion. Simply cannot go wrong for this price and it is extremely good value for the price. It is a good quality wash and one which I think is a credit to Boots.
I will buy it again in the future and I think it is a very good wash for the cheap price of it. It cleans my skin in the way I expect it to clean it but it doesn't completely remove my make up to my satisfaction.
I am dropping a star only because it doesn't remove my make up very well.

Thank you for reading my review and I hope it has been of some help.
Although I remove my make up every night, sometimes I wake up in the morning and my skin does not feel entirely clean. I like to use a facial wash when I'm in the shower in the morning. This is because it helps to wake me up a bit, as well as helping my skin at the same time. It takes a lot for me to find skin care products that I am completely satisfied with, especially ones that are an affordable price. I have always been fairly impressed with the Boots Essentials Cucumber range, so I went ahead and picked up this facial wash.
As this is a Boots own branded product, this is only available online on their website and in most of their stores. The price of this facial wash is £1.50 which I think is a really great price considering you get 150ml worth. This price is fantastic when compared to some of the other facial wash products on offer by branded companies. Although this is not fancy and filled with luxurious ingredients, as long as it did the job I would be happy.
As far as appearance goes, this is a very basic product - as you can assume by the fact it is from the Boots Essentials range. It comes in a pale green shade with a dark green lid. It is not very attractive in its appearance as it is so basic, but all that I was interested in was what's inside. As the lid stands on the bottom of the bottle, this means that the wash dispenses easily. It comes out in a gel formula, not too thick nor too thin.
You only need the tiniest amount of this gel, maybe around the size of a ten pence piece. I apply this to an already wet face, and as I stated earlier I like to use this when I am in the shower as it can be applied quickly and it is also easy to wash off that way. I rub the face wash into the palms of my hands before massaging all over the face. I noticed immediately how much the facial wash lathered up in my hands, and I thought it was really great for such a cheap product. It is really easy to use and washes off quickly and hassle free.
I have quite oily to combination skin, so finding face washes can often be a nightmare as everything leaves me looking shiny. This however reduces the shine I have throughout the day. It is recommended for all skin types, but as someone who has quite oily skin I would really recommend it to those who also do. I found that this was a great wash for my skin type, and it does everything that I require. Considering I have tried facial washes that cost three times more than this, I always end up coming back to this. It leaves my skin feeling a little tighter, but much more cleansed and clean. It is the perfect wake up on an early morning, and leaves the skin looking much more healthy.
As this is cucumber scented, it has a very fresh and clean smell to it. I find this a great scent for a facial product, and although it does not stay on your face long, it is a really pleasant smell so I thought I would just have to comment on that.
I only use this for a general day to day wash to clean my face. I could not personally comment on how well this removes make up. However, I have faced no irritation to my skin or eye area using this product, so I would assume that it could well remove make up easily, as well as being suitable for those with more sensitive skin.
Overall, this is a facial wash I would 100% recommend to people of all skin types. I find it bizarre how some companies can charge so much for a facial wash, when this does everything I need for a tiny price tag. Could not fault this facial wash at all - 5 stars. Thanks for reading.
I am a big fan of the cucumber facial products from the Boots essentials range. They smell good, work well and are very cheap indeed.
One of the products I use is the Boots Essentials cucumber facial wash. I would say that this is not the most intensive face wash i use. it is not intended to really chemically get rid of spots or to banish wrinkles or anything like that but what it does do is get my face nice and clean. I wash my face everyday in the evening before bed as I like to have a clean fresh face at night so I use this wash on days when I haven't put any make up on so I get that nice fresh clean feeling.
Boots say that this Essentials Cucumber Facial wash removes make-up and excess oils leaving skin cleansed and refreshed.
It definitely has a really fresh clean scent to it. I love the smell of cucumber in cosmetics and this is a really nice version, it smells nice and clean and crisp. This Essentials Cucumber Facial Wash is enriched with soothing cucumber and vitamins and my face definitely feels nice and clean after use.
The wash is in the form of a clear gel which has a bit of a green tint to it. It comes in a very basic packaging but then you are not paying for the bottle are you, just the product inside. The wash foams up well in my hands when I mix it with water and then I just rub it in to my face and then leave it on for a few moments before splashing it off with water. Afterwards I use some Boots cucumber toner to really get a nice fresh face and I like the way my skin looks and feels afterwards.
A 150ml bottle costs just £1.50 so it's well worth it for a fresh clean face.
Because I have sensitive skin I have to put 'Does not Irritate my Skin' top of the list of requirements for facial washes and if it smells nice and feels good take those as bonuses. This facial wash fits the bill and gives me the bonuses too and all at a very reasonable price. As a Boots own brand, this is exactly what I expect when I give them my money but props should still go to Boots for producing such a good product at such a value for money price.
The packaging is strong but flexible plastic. This has taken being taken in and out of my washbag on trips as easily as it does living on the shelf over the bathroom sink. The top has remained in place, which is more than other brands have done, and the contents have not got all over everything else in the washbag. Though, as the top is a flip type, care should be taken to ensure that it is firmly put back in place after use.
You get 150ml of face wash for only £1.52 at Boots and you can also buy it for 152 Advantage Points.
The cleansing wash is a pleasant light green and has a distinct and pleasantly fresh scent of cucumber. It is vitamin enriched as well as containing cucumber. The product washes the face as well as effectively but gently removing any make up. It certainly has had no problems removing my make-up.
It has been dermatologically tested. This has proved to be accurate in my case as it does not irritate my sensitive skin or cause my eczema to flare up. It is sold as suitable for all skin types. I have combination T Zone oiliness with dry cheeks and it cleans the oily areas properly without shriveling the dry ones. Though this is just a cleanser and moisturising remains essential and another product.
To use, just squirt a little into your wet hand and apply the resulting lather to your face and neck. Then rinse. I have rinsed with both warm and cold water and it has worked well with both. The lather is soothing, refreshing and cleans properly without irritating the skin.
All in all, this is face wash which works as well for your face as it does for your bank balance.
I bought the Boots cucumber facial wash primarily to take with me as a cheap cleanser for work trips away. I travel with work quite a lot, and I've lost count of the number of expensive cleansers I've left in hotel bathrooms when I've checked out. I'm really not a morning person at all, and I always get up at the last minute and then I'm rushing around to get ready, and pack, and check out on the last morning, so I invariably leave something behind, just lately it seems to be cleanser.
So I wanted something cheap, which I wouldn't mind so much if I ended up leaving it behind, but also something that would work and which wouldn't irritate my skin. I was stocking up on the Boots cucumber face wipes recently and I spotted that Boots do a whole range of the cucumber face products. I've never noticed them before simply because I just pick my face wipes and then head off to one of the premium cosmetic counters for my other products. All of the cucumber products from cleansers to moisturisers were really cheap - all were priced between £1.50 and £2.00. I picked up the face wash for just £1.52.
I was happy to give the Boots cucumber facial wash a go as I'm more than happy with the Boots cucumber face wipes. It is quite a small bottle at just 150ml, but hey it was only £1.52. It says that it is suitable for all skin types, and that it is dermatologically tested.
Overall I've been happy with this face wash, I wouldn't say that it's the best face wash in the world, it does have some negatives, but for the price it is actually OK.
It is a green transparent gel like liquid, and it smells exactly like the cucumber face wipes, it doesn't smell like cucumber as such, it is just a very fresh and uplifting fragrance. The fragrance is quite subtle, it's not too overpowering, and only a hint of the fragrance lingers on your skin for a little while.
To use the face wash I just squirt a blob of the green gel into my wet hands, lather it up into a foam, and then wash my face and neck with the pale green foamy lather. I do find that I need to use a much bigger blob of this to create enough foam and lather to adequately wash my face, than I would need to do with my more expensive cleansers. As a result of this it probably won't last all that long, mind you I'll probably leave it behind somewhere anyway!
It does work well, if you use enough of it, and it does remove all traces of my make up (apart from waterproof make up), and all the grime from my face. It does remove any greasiness as well, however I think that it does strip my face slightly as my face does feel slightly tight after washing it with this face wash. I basically have to apply my serum and moisturiser directly after washing my face. It does leave my face feeling nice and clean though. I find that so long as I moisturise straight away then I can get away with using this face wash for few days to a week. I do always switch back to one of my more expensive cleansers when I come home though.
I'm on my second tube of this face wash so far, as you've guessed it the first one was left behind! If I stop travelling so much with work then I will stop buying this as I do only use it when I go away. If you are on a budget though then this isn't a bad cleanser at all for the price.
I first was attracted to this product due to the price and the fact that it always seems to be on some sort of special offer in Boots, when I purchased mine it was on 3 for 2, and as it's only around £1.50 anyway this was a real bargain.
The product comes in a 150ml tube, with a light green body and darker green lid with the product ingredients and directions for use printed on the back. It stands on its lid and the face gel is squeezed out easily. Both I and my husband use the face gel twice daily and I would say it lasts about a month, so great value all round.
The face gel itself is light green with a fantastic fresh cucumber smell, which gives the impression it will leave your skin squeaky clean, which it does. I only need a small amount, about the size of a chickpea to get a good lather going and as I am not a fan of eye make up remover I am very pleased that this product washes off all my make-up including mascara, not sure about waterproof mascara as I do not use it, without stinging my eyes. It also rinses off easily in water. The texture of the gel is quite creamy and feels soft and light to use.
After I have used the face gel my skin feels refreshed and thoroughly cleansed, though on occasion it can leave my forehead feeling a little tight, so maybe over clean!. But this is not a problem I encounter daily. I have combination skin that is fairly sensitive and I would recommend this product to those with similar skin, although the product says that it can be used for all skin types, I would suggest that it is not really suitable for those with dry skin, as it may leave your skin feeling tight all over.
Overall, this is a great product that works well, at a fantastic price.
I recently noticed that when I washed my face before I went to bed at night it was coming out in red blotches and looking really raw and sore. Coupled with this I started to see that my make-up wasn't going on my face very well when I applied it at the start of the day and that there were dry patches where the colour of my foundation or blusher would sink in. I have used facial washes in the past but started to think they were a pointless luxury and reverted to a plain old bar of cheap white cold cream soap. When I started noticing the skin on my face was suffering I went out to look for a cost-effective face wash that would solve my skin problems and be something I could afford to buy regularly. I found this Cucumber Facial Wash at Boots the Chemist. It is their own make facial wash in their 'Essentials' brand and was the cheapest in the store at only £1.49. It was about £1 cheaper than the big brand names which were sitting on the shelf alongside it.
The Facial Wash comes in a pale green soft plastic tube and it sits on it's lid, which is a flip style top. It's a 150ml sized tube and the contents are usable for up to 24 months after opening. There is some valuable information on the back of the tube such as full ingredients, directions for use and some information about the product properties.
Boots say that the facial wash is dermatalogically tested so it's safe for sensitive skins. They also say that the extract of cucumber ingredient in the wash helps to soften and soothe skin. They also mention that the vitamins in the wash are wonderful for your skin. They claim that the facial wash is effective enough to remove make-up and excess oils and that it will leave the skin feeling "cleansed and refreshed". It's suitable for all skin types.
I have to say that I hate cucumbers to eat and I was a bit worried I'd dislike the fragrance of this facial wash. I needn't have worried though as it only has a very mild cucumber smell and is more like a very fresh mountain waterfall kind of scent. It's a fragrance that invigorates my senses.
The facial wash is a clingy kind of gel. It is dispensed easily although it seems to roll off my hands in a dollop unless I quickly rub my hands together. You need to work the gel into a lather in your hands first and you need to add a splash of water for this. Then you simply rub into your face and neck area and rinse off.
I have not had any problems with this hurting my eyes, it seems to be a very mild facial wash in this sense. When I apply it to my face I feel a soft layer form over my skin. It's almost like a clingfilm wrap that is soft and slippy to the touch. The gel is easy to rinse off as the bubbles are quite big and sloppy.
When I dry my skin I notice the difference between using this and soap immediately. There is no redness or reaction. There are also no dry patches any more. My skin feels soft and bouncy to touch. I almost feel like I don't need to moisturise my face after using the facial wash.
I find that the facial wash cleans well although it has left traces of make-up on my eyes a couple of times. This tends to be eye shadow which has sparkles in it and which clings to the skin. I have since started using a specific eye make-up remover liquid prior to using the facial wash to solve this problem. Other than that the facial wash cleans away oil and dirt. I have noticed my skin looks really bright and healthy in areas where in the past it has been greasy and prone to blackheads.
Overall I am super impressed with this facial wash and I intend to keep using it. It's so cheap but totally does the job I need it to do. I would definitely reccommend it to anybody, man or woman, who needs to have a bit of extra care for their facial skin. If you have a Boots advantage card you can also benefit from buying this product.

This review is also on Ciao!
I bought this product about two weeks ago.I'm so pleased I have because my skin was a real mess.Maybe the other cleansers were just too strong?I'm not sure but eventually it was time to try something much milder, and as I had previously tried this line of product (for many years non stop) I reverted back to it....
The wash is very mild, it only suds slightely, but you can 'feel it' removing residue/makeup from the skin (if that makes any sense.) I noticed a cooling sensation upon application, not to mention the strong smell of cucumbers. I massaged it in small circular motions to make sure I didn't 'miss a spot' and then washed thoroughly. After drying my face I noticed no tautness of the skin, which was an issue for me these last few months with other products.I followed with a cucumber toner and moisturising cream, and two weeks into usage theres been a dramatic improvement.
The product comes in a squidgy tube and its size is 100ml.It cost me £1.39 (I may be 10p mistaken lol) It does spread very well so I've been using minimal amount(about the size of a five pence coin) and I'm just past a quarter of the tube.
The important thing is it does work(from my experience its best to use with other products from this line as they work in harmony together) My spots have reduced remarkably and I have no blackheads. My skin is glowing and I feel comfortable going out with no makeup on... you could say its given my confidence a boost too!
A great buy.I highly recommend this product.
*Me and Facial Washes!*
I used to only use Biore facial wash, until they changed the ingredients resulting in my developing contact dermatitis and being given 100 strong antibiotics! As I had been using Biore religiously, twice a day, for 9 years, I was thrown into a panic at finding something new to replace it.
When in Boots in a small despair and searching for another facial wash, after trying Simple Moisturising face wash that I did not like, I saw this Cucumber face wash from Boots own brand "essentials" range. Priced at £1.19-£1.29 that was better than paying £4.79-£6.50 to try something else that did not work for me. The range is often on 3-for-2 offer.
The product comes in a very simply designed 100ml tube which is green tinted plastic, with basic green writing on it. It is part of the Boots Essentials range, which I am taking to be their equivalent of a "value" range. Don't let that put you off. It contains "extract of cucumber to help gently soften and soothe". It has a flip lid on the base which opens easily (I sometimes have issues with flip lids when they vacuum lock somehow and end up trying top open things using the corners of cupboards!)- I haven't had any problems getting into the tubes here. This is good to know if you have any hand mobility issues.
It squeezes out without much effort, the product is neither too runny (it does not leak out of the tube if you do not close the flip lid properly) nor is it too thick (like the Simple moisturising face wash I tried was where you had to have the hand strength of Mike Tyson to get it out of the tube)- it is like the Porridge in Goldilocks- Just right!. It is a nice pale green almost pearlescent colour when you squeeze it onto your hand. It smells light and has a good cucumber scent that smells fresh and clean but not overpowering.
*Usage and User-Friendliness*
The product is easy to use- you just squeeze a bit onto your hand, and lather it up using a small amount of water then rub it all over your face and rinse off. I have to give this 4 out of 5 for removing make-up as I sometimes end up with traces of foundation in the crook of my nose or down the centre of my nose- this is more my fault due to not rinsing well enough or rubbing it in well enough.
I find a 10p sized amount of the product if rubbed in correctly and rinsed well will remove mascara, eye make up and foundation/ concealer etc better that other products like Clean and Clear that I tried which seemed to sit on the surface of my make up and did not wash it off. Another point to the Boots Cucumber Face Wash!
I am not going to list all the ingredients as the list is very long and most of the ingredients have long scientific names! The full ingredient list can be found on the Boots website if anyone requires this information.
I have now been using this for six months and I like it- it is a basic product, it does not feel luxurious but it does exactly what I want it to do- clean. I find my skin is quite dry on the whole so I try to only use a small amount of this- just enough to clean my face and remove make up. I have not found using this every day is making my skin any drier or any less dry so I have come to the conclusion this facial wash is not affecting the dryness of my skin (which is more likely due to working in a poorly air conditioned office).
I have not had any more skin eruptions from chemicals in face washes and my skin feels smooth and I have found I have less spots overall which is always a good thing. Although I still miss the Biore wash as it was a product I had grown to trust, this Boots Cucumber Facial Wash is fine for me to continue using for the time being as it is very cheap, it does what I need it to do and I have not had any adverse reactions from using this- so I am going to keep buying it! If it is not broken- I am not seeing any reasons to change it just yet.
*Pack Warnings and Considerations*
The pack only notes avoid direct contact with eyes and rinse well if you do get it in your eyes. This does not mean keep it clear of your eyes when you are getting washed as this does work to remove mascara, eyeliner etc- I think it just means it will sting if you get it IN your eyes.
It has a shelf life of 24 months stated on the pack. I get through one tube a month and buy two tubes a month just to stockpile (one for the shower and one to leave at the sink)- for this price you can do that! It also comes in a fragrance free version if you do have very sensitive skin and need a fragrance free version. If you are not too concerned about buying luxe brands and just need a simple face wash for a nice cheap price, I woudl definitely recommend this.
Personally I use a mixture of both high end and cheap products, so I decided to give this range a trial run. At £1.39 for 100 ml, it is good value and even better when on 3 for 2 from Boots.
There are several products in the cucumber range, which I had never tried before and they all come in similar simple green packaging. It isn't the most attractive packaging ever but you aren't paying for that. The wash comes in a tube which has a flip top lid, which it stands on, so the product comes easily out of the tube. The tube is easy to squeeze and you can also see how much you have left in.
I really like the consistency, I usually use it in the shower and it isn't overly runny and it lathers up really well. I can feel my face being deeply cleansed. It smells cucumbery and not chemically, which is ideal. I would say to keep it away from your eye area as it does sting your eyes.
Usually I just rinse it off with cold water and it comes off easily.
It leaves my skin feeling reall clean but not tight, I usually follow up with moisturiser anyway. I have sensitive skin but I seem to be getting on just fine with it and it does the job.
My partner and I have been using this budget brand face wash now for about five years, and find it so good!
It is only £1.39 for 100ml and is frequently on offer in most Boots stores with a 3for2 offer. It is so cost effective as it lasts both of us about two weeks per tube (washing twice per day).
It is for all skin types, and as I have combination skin, and my partner has greasy skin, I would say that probably anybody could use it - even sensitive skin as it seems very mild.
It doesn't really have a scent (but then cucumbers don't), and is a nice not too thick, not too runny consistency. It lathers really easily when you have wet hands and rinses off without leaving any residue. My skin feels really clean afterwards, although it does not feel softened at all, which is why I would say that you would also need a moisturiser after use. However, it also does not leave your skin feeling dry or tight, just nice and clean.
The tubes are made of almost clear plastic, and have a two year shelf life once opened. Also, the tube is recyclable.
If it's a luxury face wash you're after, this is not for you, but if you want an everyday effective cleaner that will take off make up and dirt easily, this is should be your bargain buy!
I chose this product as it was cheap (only £1.49) but also because I'd been impressed by Boots own-brand skincare in the past. With face washes, I've found you don't always get what you pay for so thought I'd give this budget option a try!
There are several products in the Cucumber range, and all come in similar minimal, light-green packaging. This wash comes in a tube which stands on its flip-top lid. It's made out of soft translucent plastic which is easy to squeeze the product out of, and also easy to see when you're getting near the bottom.
The consistency is perfect - not too runny but lathers up really easily with hot water on your face. The smell of cucumber is pretty 'genuine' as well, and not at all chemical. I wear quite a lot of eye make up and this did dissolve it quite well, although it stung my eyes slightly. It made lots of froth (which I like) but rinsed off really easily with a wet flannel.
It left my skin feeling really clean but not too dry and tight, and very refreshed. I've been using it for about a week now and I'm getting on fine with it. It's not perfect because of the stingy eyes, but it does the job perfectly adequately if unspectacularly, and I can't see myself spending more on anything more expensive now.
