Boots Essentials Fragrance Free Cleansing Lotion is a facial cleanser which is suitable for skin that is sensitive or allergic to perfume and works to gently remove make up and excess oils leaving skin clean, soft and smooth.
This cleansing lotion true to being a very affordable 'essential' product comes in very basic packaging, a translucent bottle with a blue lid and blue writing - very fitting for its budget nature. Although its nothing special, it works well and there is nothing I'd complain about.
The cleanser, as you'd expect from a fragrance free product, has a very subtle non obtrusive scent that doesn't bother me.
The consistency of the cleansy is a very runny white liquid/cream. This makes the cleanser spread easily around the face however can sometimes make the application difficult as if you accidentally use too much, the cleanser will run off the cotton wool ( I apply the cleanser to a large cotton pad and spread around my face to remove my makeup and repeat the process until all my makeup is removed).
With sensitive skin I sometimes find that cleanser can sting my skin. This cleanser can occasionally sting my skin ( very minimal and only when my skin is burnt or on active breakouts), however this is not something that stopped me using the product.
After using this, my skin is left smooth, not irritated nor dried out. However I do find that a significant amount of residue is left on my skin, which I would advise to those who get annoyed by this to follow with a toner.
As for makeup removing ability, this cleanser, after a couple of repeated applications, will thoroughly remove your face makeup and any eye makeup (including mascara). I do feel that I do follow with an eye makeup remover to completely remove the remains of my eye makeup.
For me, I like a cleanser to improve the condition of my skin. Although this doesn't seem to irritate my skin or cause breakouts, I haven't seen any positive improvement in the condition of my skin and breakouts still continue to occur.
Overall I feel that this matches its claims. It gently removes makeup leaving skin soft and smooth however it does so by leaving a residue. If you are wanting a budget product to remove you makeup then this does the job however if you want your skin to have a deeper clean and you want to see an improvement, this may not be for you.
This product is exclusive to Boots at £1.42/150ml
I give this product ****
I started using this cleanser when my skin was very sensitive. I'd tried all sorts of expensive cleansers for sensitive skin but everything brought my eczema out so I resorted to this cleanser. It's only £1.39 for 150ml (obviously from Boots), which lasts me 3-4 weeks when cleansing morning and night. It's in a plain plastic bottle with a blue cap and writing, like all of the essentials fragrance free range.
The cleanser itself is white and of just the right consistency, you can smooth it round your face easily enough. It comes off easily with cotton wool and seems to lift the dirt from my face quickly and easily. It doesn't leave a sticky feeling afterwards and doesn't leave any residue. It obviously doesn't smell of anything (as it's fragrance free) and it doesn't irritate my skin. I haven't had any breakouts since using it and equally I've had no dry patches on my skin or that taut feeling I sometimes get when I use other harsher cleansers. There really isn't a lot else to say about this cleanser, because it really just does what it says on the bottle.
All in all a good budget cleanser that seems to really work for me!
Boots Essentials Fragrance Free Cleansing Lotion
What is it?
A facial cleansing lotion by Boots.
This is a very basic, plain cleansing lotion that is colour and fragrance free. It claims to be suitable for all skin types, even sensitive skin and contains a vitamin enriched formula.
What do I think?
I think this is a great basic cleanser, especially if you're on a budget. It is only £1.39 for a 150ml bottle and cleans just as well as any other well known brand facial cleanser that I have tried. It is very easy to rub into the face and isn't too sticky. The consistency is a little runny but isn't really too much of an issue unless you're really careless with fluids. It doesn't seem to be as moisturising as some other cleansers and I don't know if it's psychological but I just still find that my face doesn't look at radiant and glowing after using this than a few other brands I've tried - but hey, if you're on a budget....
To be honest, for such a low price, this basic lotion does the job and is very effective, but just is without the perks. It may not have lots benefits and brilliant miracles, but at least it doesn't do any damage, I feel that this is the important thing, i.e.it doesn't dry out the face, I accidently left this on my face over night, and my face seemed fine. It easy to remove, gentle on the skin and remove dirt effectively - what more can you ask?
Definitely value for money. Basic but still a big tick in my book.
Thanks for reading.
