Advantages: Removes all makeup

Disadvantages: Does not clear or prevent spots

Boots Essentials Fragrance Free Cleansing Lotion is a facial cleanser which is suitable for skin that is sensitive or allergic to perfume and works to gently remove make up and excess oils leaving skin clean, soft and smooth.

This cleansing lotion true to being a very affordable 'essential' product comes in very basic packaging, a translucent bottle with a blue lid and blue writing - very fitting for its budget nature. Although its nothing special, it works well and there is nothing I'd complain about.

The cleanser, as you'd expect from a fragrance free product, has a very subtle non obtrusive scent that doesn't bother me.

The consistency of the cleansy is a very runny white liquid/cream. This makes the cleanser spread easily around the face however can sometimes make the application difficult as if you accidentally use too much, the cleanser will run off the cotton wool ( I apply the cleanser to a large cotton pad and spread around my face to remove my makeup and repeat the process until all my makeup is removed).

With sensitive skin I sometimes find that cleanser can sting my skin. This cleanser can occasionally sting my skin ( very minimal and only when my skin is burnt or on active breakouts), however this is not something that stopped me using the product.

After using this, my skin is left smooth, not irritated nor dried out. However I do find that a significant amount of residue is left on my skin, which I would advise to those who get annoyed by this to follow with a toner.

As for makeup removing ability, this cleanser, after a couple of repeated applications, will thoroughly remove your face makeup and any eye makeup (including mascara). I do feel that I do follow with an eye makeup remover to completely remove the remains of my eye makeup.

For me, I like a cleanser to improve the condition of my skin. Although this doesn't seem to irritate my skin or cause breakouts, I haven't seen any positive improvement in the condition of my skin and breakouts still continue to occur.

Overall I feel that this matches its claims. It gently removes makeup leaving skin soft and smooth however it does so by leaving a residue. If you are wanting a budget product to remove you makeup then this does the job however if you want your skin to have a deeper clean and you want to see an improvement, this may not be for you.
