“ Brand: Boots / Texture: Cream / Type: Night Cream / What it does: Hydrates, Nourishes / Product line: Boots No7 „
I bought this hydration cream around Christmas time when I began to notice that my skin was in really poor condition. I do not sleep well thanks to having a little person that likes to keep me up at night and the effect it has had on my skin is terrible. I have bags under my eyes and I just look tired all the time so I thought if I bought some special skin creams they could help to boost my skin or at least to make me look a little brighter anyway. I bought this night cream and also the day cream too.
=== Packaging ===
It comes in a lovely looking post which is short and squat and made of glass. I think it looks quite attractive really. It has a slight purple tinge to the glass, this makes it easy to see right away which is the night cream and which is the day cream. The glass is quite thick which means that inside there is less space for your cream. The lid unscrews and sometimes if you don't put it back on right it can be difficult to get off so I always take care to put it on correctly.
=== Using the cream ===
I always wash my face and clear it of make up first and then make sure I have patted it dry. I then add the cream. The cream is easy to get out because the lid is nice and large and the cream is soft so easy to get out. I use my fingers and get a small amount on each one. I then apply it to my face- a dab on my forehead, a dab on both cheeks, my nose and my chin and then rub it in using circular motions. It feels quite cool against my skin and a little greasy too. I find that within about 3 minutes it has absorbed but there is a very slight tackiness to my skin. Not enough for anyone to notice if they were to touch my skin, but I can notice it and this actually lasts until morning. I assume that this is a good thing as it must show that it has good staying power and works for a while.
=== Effect ===
I think this gives my skin a bit of a shine. At first I thought it looked a bit greasy and I was worried it wasn't right for my skin but now I have started to use less I think the shine looks like a healthy glow. When I used more it had a really big shine to it and I could feel it sitting on top of my skin. Now that I use less it makes me look fresh. When I apply this I can feel that my skin is quite hard and a little tense, once this is applied it feels much softer and more flexible. I am not someone who believes that a cream will suddenly make you look stunning or 10 years younger but I do think that this skin cream helps me to look a little brighter when I have had a poor night's sleep. It's nice to know that whilst I am sleeping this is helping to hydrate my skin so keeping it as healthy as possible.
=== Conclusion ===
Although I do not think this cream will take away the bags under my eyes or will stop me from ageing I do think that it does help to keep my skin looking as fresh as possible. I do notice a difference when I apply this before going to bed and it seems to work really well with the day cream too. I will stick to using this, I don't use it on a daily basis as I usually forget but I tend to use it about twice a week, perhaps if I used it more regularly it would have an even better effect.
I have been using No 7 Advanced Hydration Night Cream for around 6 months, as part of a skin care regime prescribed to me by a No 7 beauty expert in my local Boots. The product comes in an ivory frosted glass jar with a screw top lilac coloured lid, adorned with the gold lettering of the No 7 brand. It costs £15.50 for a 50ml Jar and is widely available from Boots stores, or online.
The cream is very similar in composure and ingredients to the Advanced Hydration Day Cream which I have previously reviewed. However, the night cream is so much more rich and indulgent with a thicker texture (if possible!) and a more pungent fragrance (although not overpowering or very noticeable when applied, and still hypo-allergenic).
Each night before bed, I cleanse and tone and then I apply my No 7 Line Lift and follow that once absorbed with this product. As it is so rich and thick I simply dip my index finger in to the jar and then smooth in to my skin on my face and neck. It almost melts in to the skin, and within a few moments your skin is not greasy or sticky to touch, it is fully absorbed and your skin looks beautiful and soft and feels nourished - like it has had a drink. I have previously found night creams to be too heavy for my delicate (in parts) and sensitive skin, however, this is perfectly suitable for my combination skin. In parts where my face is greasy and prone to spots (chin and nose) just the right amount of necessary moisture is delivered, in parts where my skin is sensitive and dry plenty more moisture hits - and doesn't irritate which is most important. When I come to cleanse in the morning I can still see the effects of the cream, like I have had a face mask on all night protecting my skin from the air in my room (I sleep with the window open a crack so the 'elements' get in here too). After washing and toning I can still feel how nourished my skin is - and then I apply my day cream to continue the moisture cycle.
I think that the product is good value for money as it lasts ages, I use more of this than I do the day cream, so after 6 months I am now about ready to buy some more of this. I am really happy with the effects of this cream and it has really helped me see how different a night cream can be from a day cream, previously in other ranges I have seen that night creams are just a greasier version of the day cream, but in this range this is not true. It is a more rich and luxurious skin treat for overnight. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, any age, with any type of skin.
Feel free to read this in conjunction with my other No 7 reviews to read about my complete skin care regime xx
I got this product in a gift set free when you spent £20 on other boots products. It was a sample size of 7ml I think and it was in a dinky little pot which was made of plastic and was white and lilac in colour with black writing on the front.
When I opened it buy unscrewing the lid the cream inside was quite thick and white and didnt really have a smell as such. It has pro viramin b5 in it and it was an intensive cream.
I put this on in small amounts and thouroughly rubbed it in until it was absorbed. You only need a little amount as it goes a long way and it doesnt leave any residue. In the morning ( I applied at night ) my face did feel softer and smoother.
When I ran out of this pot I went straight out and bought a normal sized one. It is a great little pot of amazing cream which in my opinion gave me amazing results! I find this great and also bought the day cream to go with it.
I whole heartedly recommend this product as I think it really works.
Having bought the day cream and some other Boots no 7 products, I convinced myself that I was finally going to be kind to my skin.
Hence the purchase of the day cream (for day wear) and the night cream (for night wear).
I decided on the advanced hydration because with winter almost upon us, I figured that my skin would be stripped of all moisture, and I would begin to bear more than a slight resemblance to a shrivelled prune.
Thank goodness it's not promising to make me lose 20 year with 4 weeks application. i am getting a tad tired of the same old promises which just don't seem to have the power to deliver.
This sensibly tells me that it will soften and intensively nourish my skin while I sleep., and leave me ready to face the new day. A good night sleep wouold be better, but I get the gist! There are ceramide complexes (what are they) and pro vitamin B5 to leave me looking radiant.
Product and Packaging
Like the day cream, this comes in a rather attractive tub with a screw on/off lid. These are, i think, more handy than squeezy tubes, because I can scoop out the last bits of the product, and then if I feel like it, I can save the tub and use it for something else. A pointer here- don't give to small children whilst they stand on a tiled floor (I know from experience!). The tub has a pink lid, unlike the day cream which has a white lid, so I suppose it's "face care by colour"; good news if you can't read.
Back to the product. Unscrew the lid, and there is the cream in its untouched virgin state; it's always a shame to spoil it, but needs must.
My first impression is nice, very nice. This is a thick, creamy white cream, slightly thicker than the day cream, which when I rub it into my hands, makes them feel all soft and moisturised.
So, having cleansed my face and added extra lotions and potions for added effectiveness, I apply the night cream. I must point out at this stage, that I have pretty normal skin-not dry and not oily, so whatever I comment on is applicable only to normal skin.
The cream was easy to apply, and soaked into my skin without leaving any oily or greasy residue. In fact, I looked very fresh faced and quite glowing really; it really must be all those pro vitamin 5 things in the cream. The cream is unperfumed so no noticeable smell to like or dislike, just quite thick, neutral smelling cream.
Price and availability
Obviously, this is available from all Boots stires and online at www.boots.com.
It costs £26 for 100ml, and the tub I have been using cost £13. Quite good value, because a little does go a long way- don't be tempted to completely lather yourself in the stuff!
What I think...
I have been using this for a couple of weeks now, and there is still plenty in my tub.
I do like the product because it is an effective and gentle moisturiser, and has not caused any adverse reactions. To test it on someone with more sensitive skin than myself, i got himself to trial it for a few days, and the verdict was positive. for someone with quite dry sensitive skin, this is praise indeed, because many creams are just too greasy for him.
I have been using it in conjunction with the day cream, and my skin is nicely moisturised, which makes the application of make up (if I can be bothered) easier, and just generally makes my skin feel better...less shrivelled.
I know that you are supposed to use day and night cream, but I have always, until now, used the same cream, because I figure my skin hasn't realised it's night time. So, with this very wrong theory in my head, I would probably buy either the day or the night time cream next time. Although they are colour coded, i just find it too much of a fuss making sure I have the right cream for the right time of the day.
A good cream, which is non greasy, moisturises your skin without greasiness, and is reasonably priced.
Thanks for reading.
