“ Brand: Boots / Type: Toner / Subcategory: Oil / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Purifies / Product line: Boots No7 „
I love the No 7 range of cosmetics and skincare from Boots especially as you can often obtain the £5.00 No7 vouchers to use against products which makes them great value. One product that I purchased some time ago but have only just began to use is the Beautifully Balanced purifying toner for oily/combination skin. I purchased this toner alongside the beautifully balanced cleanser which I have previously reviewed as they are designed to work together as part of a skin care regime. This toner can only be purchased from Boots stores as it is one of their own brand products. It comes in a 200ml bottle and at the time that I made the purchase it was priced at £9.00, although I only paid £4.00 as I had one of the No7 vouchers to redeem against the purchase. This exact cleanser is no longer available to buy as No7 has recently revamped its ranges but I am sure something similar will have replaced it. The packaging of the toner is literally identical to the cleanser as it also comes in a pearlescent slightly transparent, tall plastic bottle allowing you to see the pale green coloured toner inside. The black and gold writing on the front of the bottle states that the toner 'cools, refreshes and leaves skin shine free'. On the back of the bottle you can find more information on how the toner works as well as directions for use and ingredients listings. The bottle has a white pearlescent lid which can easily be pulled off to reveal a pump action dispenser which allows you to easily get the cleanser out of the bottle without even having to pick it up. As stated the toner is a pale green colour but is has a consistency more like water. The toner is designed to be used after cleansing to remove any last traces of makeup or cleanser. I always put 3-4 pumps of the toner onto a cotton wool pad to use and then simply glide it across my face after cleansing which I find works very well. I have been using the toner every evening for around 2 weeks now and have only used around a third of the bottle so a little does go quite a long way. The toner states that it is fragrance free but I do notice a very light fragrance which reminds me a little of cucumbers which I find refreshing and pleasant. I have used some toners in the past that have left my skin feeling dry and very tight afterwards but this one just leaves my skin feeling fresh, soft and smooth. It is pH balanced and hypo-allergenic and even though I have fairly sensitive skin at times I have not had any adverse reaction from using this toner. Overall I have been very impressed with this toner, I have been using it for a couple of weeks now in the evenings alongside the matching cleanser and moisturiser and have noticed a great difference to my skin which looks brighter and healthier. Also at the age of 29 I do still get annoying break outs of spots and using this toner alongside the other products has certainly decreased the number of spots I have been getting which is a great bonus. The only negative thing I have to say about this toner is that I am upset that it can no longer be purchased but that I hope to find that it has been replaced by a toner which is equally as good, if not better!
No7 is one of those brands that I only tend to buy when I have one of those Boots vouchers to use up, as I usually go for one of the cheaper brands such as Simple. I don't actually use toner very often at all, it's just when I'm pampering myself and decided to do a full, proper, cleanse, tone and moisturise ritual. To be honest, I never really got the 'tone' part of this often quoted skincare mantra - so you remove impurities with the cleanser, moisturise your skin with the moisturiser... what does the bit in the middle achieve? Well, after using this product, I can tell you that it adds a certain 'freshness' and 'brightness' to your skin. I guess it's meant to even out your skintone but as I suffer from vitiligo this is virtually an impossibility for me and is something that can only be corrected with a clever use of makeup. I use the toner with the cotton pads you use for removing nail varnish. It has a 'fresh', almost cucumbery scent to it, and doesn't smell of chemicals at all which is a huge skin care turn off for me. It takes a bit for your skin to dry afterwards, so it's good to leave it for two or three minutes before applying moisturiser. When I've run out or makeup remover or facewipes I sometimes use this toner to freshen up and removde excess makeup, and it does quite a good job. At around £7.50 it is more expensive than a lot of other brands but you can definitely tell where the extra money has gone with this. When I've used cheaper toners in the past I haven't noticed much of a difference at all. I'd definitely recommend this product to someone who was looking for a decent no7 product.
Boots No. 7 Beautifully Balanced Purifying Toner for Oily / Combination skin is another one of my beauty gems and has been a firm favourite for several years now. The toner comes in a 200ml plastic bottle which is cylinder in shape and feels nice to hold. It is stylish looking with the gold lettering of the 'No 7' brand and the remainder of the product information in simple black text, and so looks lush out on display, especially if accompanied by the other bottles from the No7 face care collection. The toner itself is a pale green colour, whilst the bottle is a misty white colour, and so as the toner reduces in quantity it is easily possible to identify how much is left in the bottle. To use the toner, you need to dispense a small amount onto cotton wool and then sweep it across all areas of the face. The toner is very liquid, just like water, and so I like the fact that it is dispensed by a push down dispenser at the top of the bottle, which makes applying small amounts easy and ensures that you're not wasting the product through excessive dispensing. I personally find that two pumps of the dispenser is usually sufficient for toning the face and therefore the bottle does seem to last a good length of time. The product is for toning the skin as the name suggests, and used in combination with a cleanser and moisturiser, is perfect for giving yourself a little facial every day and keeping your skin refreshed and youthful. The toner cleans away any remaining cleanser that is left on your skin from intially cleansing and also removes any last traces of make up. On the packaging you're advised that it 'cools, refreshes and leaves skin shine free' which having used the product for a number of years, I do concur with this. It also states, 'This purifying toner helps skin look and feel beautifully healthy and clean. Fragrance free and pH balanced, it leaves combination complexions rebalanced, revitalised and shine free, without drying.' Again, in my experience, I would agree with this statement. My face just feels so clean and refreshed after using this toner, I love it! The product is hypo-allergenic and so is perfect for those with sensitive skin or eyes. I have used toners in the past that have left my skin irritated, but this one certainly doesn't and actually leaves my skin feeling so refreshed - what more could you want?! The cost of this product is £7.50 and it is only available from Boots. At this price I personally would not buy it as there are products that are cheaper that would probably do the job just as well hence my four dooyoo star rating rather than five. I personally prefer to buy No 7 products using the £5 No 7 voucher that Boots stores frequently give out with a minimum £5 spend in store. When this promotion is running I would recommend stocking up on a few vouchers (£5 mobile phone top ups are my favourite!) and purchasing some No 7 Beautifull Balanced Purifying Toner at the bargain price of £2.50. Thanks for reading my review and I hope it's useful :-)
Price: £7.75 From: Boots For: Leaving combination skins rebalanced, revitalised and shine-free, without drying The packaging is very nice and high quality looking on this product. It's a plastic bottle with a pull off lid and a press-top dispenser. The press top is really good as with most toners you just have to pour or tip it out of the bottle onto cotton wool and you can end up using far too much, but with this you can easily control the amount you use. The bottle is transparent so you can easily see when you're running out. It's a green watery liquid which has a fresh, clean scent to it, nothing really perfumed or strong. I find I need to press the top about 5 times to get out the right amount to use over my face and neck, which sounds like a lot but each press of the top only gives you a very small amount, so you're not going to use it up too quickly even so. Sweeping it over the skin on a cotton wool pad, it gives the skin a definite cool, refreshed sensation, and it feels as though it's really getting the last traces of dirt from your skin. The evidence as always with toners is on the cotton wool pad when you can see the dirt it's cleaned away. It does give a thorough clean just using it once after cleansing, if I use a fresh cotton wool pad again after using it the once the pad comes away clean, so I can see that it has removed all traces of dirt the first time. My skin is left feeling fresh and it does have a matte feel to it after use, but this soon fades, so I don't really rate the mattifying effect of this toner. However, my skin is left feeling very clean, it doesn't feel clogged or greasy, and my pores do feel toned and tightened. But most importantly it doesn't feel dry, tight or irritated. My skin can be quite sensitive and of all the products I use, toners tend to be the ones I have most problems with, but this one is really gentle and has no negative effects on my skin at all. All in all I think this is a decent toner, though somewhat expensive. Thumbs up from me.
I have been using No 7 Beautifully Balanced Purifying Toner for around 6 months, as part of a skin care regime prescribed to me by a No 7 beauty expert in my local Boots. The product comes in an tall frosted plastic container with a pearlescent self coloured plastic lid, adorned with the gold lettering of the No 7 brand. It costs £7.50 for a 200ml container and is widely available from Boots stores, or online. The product is a water like, pale green tinged, hypo-allergenic and dermatologically tested, alcohol free, pH balanced toner. The product works to leave combination skin rebalanced, revitalised and shine free, without drying out the skin. I apply the toner after cleansing, I soak a cotton pad with it and then sweep it over my face and neck, ensuring that I remove all traces of cleanser that hasn't come off when I rinsed. Then I discard the cotton pad and let my skin air dry before applying my moisturising products. There are 3 different levels of toners, a skin 'freshener', a skin tonic and an astringent. The third one is the strongest, an astringent toner is high in alcohol content, it is harsh on the skin and strips it of oils, great for really oily skins, but it would sting sensitive or dry skin, products that contain Witch Hazel and Tea Tree are good examples of an astringent. A great tip if you suffer from sweaty palms is to also wash your hands in an astringent toner. Because this product is alcohol free it fits in to the first category as a 'freshener' however, this product is for combination skin, specially formulated to do a little of everything - a combination of the 3 types. You do not get the unpleasant drying and tightening sensation that you do with an astringent, it is non-stinging and almost comforting, ensuring that your skin is not stripped of it's essential moisture, but that oily parts of your skin are dried out enough to balance with the rest of your skin. Since using my 3 step skin care regime I have noticed a big difference, the cleanser and toner combined mean my skin is well prepared for moisturising. I probably could get away without moisturising (and sometimes admittedly I forget!) but I do to ensure my skin is well nourished and protected. My skin has never been clearer as an adult I have suffered more breakouts than I ever did as a teenager, so I am really pleased with the results of this product. I think that this is good value, I use it twice a day every day (ok I'm no saint, I do miss from time to time) and I have been using it for the past 6 months, I have used three bottles of the product in that time, but as I say I absolutely saturate the cotton pad - and am about a quarter of the way down the third bottle, so I would estimate it lasts around 2-3 months per bottle. At £7.50 that's not too bad, although I could probably cut back if I didn't use so much. I would definitely recommend it, and I personally think it is suitable for most skin types owing to the gentle-ness and ph-Balancing technology. Feel free to read this in conjunction with my other No 7 reviews to read about my complete skin care regime xx
It is only in the last year that I have started using Boots No7 products more regularly. I had a £5 voucher to spend on the No7 range which prompted me to try a cleanser from their range and then as I liked this I have bought several other products. The product I am reviewing today is the No7 Beautifully Balanced Purifying Toner which is designed for oily/combination skin. It comes in a 200ml bottle with a lift off cap and a pump dispenser. It is quite a simple but nice looking plastic bottle with no pictures just some writing. The bottle has a pale green shimmery colour to it. I like the pump dispenser it allows you to dispense exactly the right amount of toner you need rather than those that pour out. This is especially good with toners as the toner is liquid so comes out quickly. The toner has a green tinge to it and is fragrance-free and hypo-allergenic. It is also alcohol free and pH balanced. It is designed to refresh your skin, remove traces of make-up and cleanser and leave your skin looking healthy, beautiful and clean. Directions are simply to apply some to cotton wool after cleansing and then sweep it over your skin then finally moisturise. I have to admit that in the past I didn't really use toner very much, I didn't really think it was necessary. However I am trying to take better care of my skin and after having a facial was recommended that I should use toner after cleansing to remove all traces of make-up and cleanser. So now twice a day I follow my 3 step skin-care routine, cleansing, toning and moisturising. I like this toner because it does exactly what you want it to. It removes any bits of make-up that I might have missed whilst cleansing and it removes the remains of the cleanser that I have used. Sometimes although you think you have cleansed your skin fully when you use the toner you find that sometimes there is still some make-up left especially if you have been wearing foundation. After using this toner my skin feels really clean and refreshed. I also like the fact that this toner is alcohol free as I have used toners with alcohol and I felt that they dried out my skin but this one doesn't dry my skin at all. This is a great toner which costs £7 so is good value for money and feels great on my skin. You only need a couple of squirts of toner to do your whole face and neck so it lasts for ages. I think this is a great product and I will be buying this one again.
Having quite sensitive skin, I've recently been having a lot of trouble finding facial skincare products that don't irritate my skin, particularly around my eyes. Wearing a fair amount of eye make up (particularly mascara and eyeliner), I've found this to be a problem, as it was a case of removing all my make up led to a fair amount of irritation, and avoiding the irritation led to panda eyes when I woke up in the mornings! I purchased this as my first No7 skincare purchase on a whim a couple of weeks ago using one of the brilliant £5 No7 vouchers Boots were giving away with any purchase. It is a little pricey, coming in at £7.50, but getting my first one at £2.50 has definitely convinced me of the advantages of this price!! It's absolutely brilliant for people with sensitive skin - I can use it around my eyes with absolutely no irritation at all, and it's left my skin feeling lovely. The price used to make me walk away in a second (although I think nothing of buying all my make up from Mac for the exact same sensitive skin reason and paying £10+ a pop), but having tried it out I'll definitely be buying it again! The bottle seems like it'll last ages too, which makes it even more worth it!
As I grow older, more and more I have come to appreciate the importance of a good daily skin routine. It has taken me quite a while to find the right products for me and my skin, but I do find that I'm very happy with the Boots No. 7 Beautifully Balanced range. I use both the cleanser and the toner and it's this toner that I find particularly good for my skin. Using a toner is particularly important for deep cleansing your pores. It hydrates and balances the ph of your skin and is an important step before using a day or night time moisturiser. Apparently toner is also an effective fixative for make-up. The Boots No 7 cleanser is called a purifying cleanser and is suitable for oily and combination skin. It comes in a 200 ml pump action dispenser. The liquid is as fluid as water but is slightly green in colour. The dispenser is very easy to use and you hardly need apply any pressure at all. I tend to pump a few bits onto a slightly moistened cotton wool pad and this is enough to use all over my face and particularly on my problem areas. I use it twice a day in both my morning and evening cleansing routines. As soon as I apply it to my face the effect is really cool and soothing and my skin starts to tingle straight away. I can really feel it starting to penetrate my pores and it really does feel like it is doing me some good. I'm always surprised as well that even when I have already cleansed my skin just how much additional dirt and make up the toner picks up so it's definitely worth using in that respect as well. Once I have used it, my skin does look just that little bit fresher and cleaner. The toner is fragrance free so there is no aroma to speak of. It's also alcohol free and PH balanced all of which help to rebalance and revitalise the skin. The toner lasts for absolutely ages because you only need to use a very small amount at any one time. Also it only costs £7 for the 200 ml bottle which I think is very good value too. Also, there are often lots of good offers with the Boots No. 7 range, either extra Advantage card points or at the moment there is a three for two offer. So, overall I really do recommend this product as it does absolutely everything it claims to do. It has a lovely tingling, cooling effect on my skin and to cap it all - it's very reasonably priced. It's definitely worth trying!
Ive always trusted Boots products as its one of the best shops around. I was in boots one day and I topped up my phone and they gave me a £5 off voucher on No7 products. To be honest I had never bought No7 products because I thought the products were too expensive. However because of the Voucher I just had to try out one of the products. I therefore went into a Boots store to look at the offers on No7 products. Because I had run out of my make-up remover I just thought I would buy this product. It was actually one of the cheapest products on the shelf. Because they were doing an offer of buy 3 for 2 I also bought foundation and another bottle of No7 beautifully balanced. Before I purchased I asked the lady who was serving me if the product was compatible with my type of skin, because I know that a lot of their products are not for my skin type, I also had to try on the foundation as well because I wasnt sure if it will go on with my skin. Anyways, The lady said the No 7 beautifully balanced purifying cleanser was made for every skin so I bought with confidence knowing that I was buying the right products. When I got home I couldnt wait to try it out because I had never used it before and I knew that it was bound to work as its one of the biggest brands around. I followed the Directions on the bottle. When I tried to press the pump down it didnt seem to work and I didnt have a clue why. I did think it was broke so I took out my other No7 beautifully balanced purifying cleanser which I bought on the same day. I tried to press down the pump for the Cleanser to come out but it only pressed down a little bit and just a tiny drop came out. I tried my best to turn it around but it didnt work. I did thought that it was broke and I was a bit disappointed. I didnt feel bothered to go back for a refund to be honest because I was rather too busy those days. However, I kept pressing and the little drops came out so I had to press the pump for a long time until I had enough in my hands. There are two ways you can apply the beautifully balanced toner on your face, either you use a cotton wool or if you dont have some just use your finger tips. Therefore, because I didnt have cotton wool I used my fingers. When I applied the beautifully Balanced purifying cleanser a leather formed, my face looked well greasy (not because of the oil but because of the cleanser). I massaged my face with my finger tips and left the Beautifully balanced purifying cleanser on my face for a minute before I washed it off, while waiting I didnt feel any effects on my face it just felt normal. After I washed it off with warm as directed on the bottle my face didnt look or feel any different. I felt like I had just washed my face with water. This is because when I wash my face using Clearasil or Clean and Clear make up removers my face really feels fresh an soft afterwards. I didnt get disappointed too quickly because I thought it was my first time in using it so I had to use it a few more days. I started using the No7 beautifully Balanced Purifying Cleanser every night before I go to sleep for three days after I bought it but it didnt seem to work, my make-up wasnt coming off properly and I just didnt feel fresh. Therefore I changed my timetable. I started using it every morning and Night for about five days. It just wasnt working on my skin I even tried the cotton wool, it seemed like the cotton wool was doing all the job rather than the Cleanser. By this time I was really disappointed I felt like I had wasted a lot of money because it was expensive. The money I used to buy one of these bottle I could have bought two bottles of the cleansers that I normally used to buy before this No7 Beautifully balanced toner. After that big disappointment day I went back in using the Cleanser once a day but in the morning when I take a shower. One day I mistakenly put it on my lips and I got this annoying tingling feeling, I wiped it off and it stayed there for a few minutes. Therefore, when using this No7 beautifully balanced toner dont put it on your lips or eyes. If you are one of those people who like smelling nice after using a make-up remover (like me) this product is not for you because its not perfumed (it doesnt smell bad either lol). It is non-drying and PH balanced it doesnt have any alcohol in it. I think Im bound to say something nice about the product and yes I do have a few positive things to say about this product. The first positive thing to note is that the Cleanser lasts a long time Ive had it for about two months now and I still got a quarter of my first bottle to go. My other bottle is somewhere in my wardrobe. The bottle is 200ml and quite tall. Though it didnt work for me its still worth the money for those people who use it because it lasts long and you dont have to buy a new one after at least two months. Another thing I like about it is the packaging, it looks really attractive, its possibly the main thing that made me buy the product. As you can see on the picture provided by dooyoo, the cleanser inside is actually light green the bottle its self is weird colour like green but almost white. Another positive thing to note is that after about 2 weeks the pump started working properly, i don't know what i did to make it work really lol sometimes it does stop working and works again the next day, it does annoy me though but it's good to know that the pump works and a lot of The cleanser comes out at the same time therefore i don't waste a lot of time anymore trying to get The cleanser out of the bottle like before. One 200ml No7 beautifully balanced purifying cleanser Oily/Combination costs £6.75 nowadays which is quite a lot. The only place that I know to buy this product is any boots store you can also buy it from their website which is www.boots.com if you are lucky you might find it on offer like I did. Its good to have your boots advantage card when you buy the product because you get about 25 advantage points which is worth 25p so the more you buy the product from boots the more you save on this product. If you dont have an advantage card you can get one on the boots website or go in one of their shops and ask for the advantage card application form. I have been complaining saying that the product doesnt work for me. Well the product is designed to clean your face only to mainly remove make up and skin oils, purify pores for your face to stay healthy looking, soft and fresh. On the packaging it suggests that you use No7 Beautifully Balanced toner for better results. I havent used Beautifully Balnced toner afterwards so I cant tell you if it works or not. If you are worried that you might be allergic to some of the ingredients used in this product well these are the ingredients: Aqua, Zinc chloride, polysorbate 20, Tocopherol, ethylparaben, butylene glycol, Sodium laureth sulfate, Isobutylparaben, retinyl palmitate, laminaria digitata, carbomer phenoxyethanol, tocopheryl acetate, sodium hydroxide, benzophenone-4, tetrasodium EDTA and methylparaben. Nonetheless, I wont be buying this product again in the future and I think Im going to give the other bottle to one of my friends as a present. I am still disappointed because Im one of those people who dont like wasting money on things you had a lot of confidence on. Too bad it didnt work for me :(
I do like the Boots No. 7 products, and have used them on and off for a number of years, the products changing as my skin changes. This, however, is one of the products which I have used for a number of years, and will probably continue to do so. **The Promise ** This purifying, hypo allergenic toner is pH balanced and alcohol and fragrance free, and will remove all the last traces of make up and cleanser It apparently cools, refreshes and leaves your skin shine free, all of this without drying your skin. Great idea, as there are few things as unpleasant as skin which has been left completely tightened up by toner. **Product and Packaging** The 200ml bottle is clear plastic with a pull of cap and all instructions and information on the bottle. To get the toner out of the bottle and onto the cotton wool, there is a pump action trigger, which has to be pressed down- remember to have the cotton wool at the ready. The pump action is a good idea because it means that you use the correct amount. several products I have tried over the years have had to be poured and I always end up with far too much toner on my cotton wool. The toner itself looks green when its in the bottle, so it probably is, but when it is applied to cotton wool or tissue, it appears to be clear. So, we have a clear, non scented liquid, easy to use and no long lasting smells once wiped over your face. **Using it ** After cleansing your face, apply the toner to cotton wool and sweep it across your face. This bit is actually quite satisfying because you can see the very last traces of make up and dirt come off your face, so at this point, you know that your face is really squeaky clean. Once the face has been toned, apply moisturiser, and thats the face all clean. **Who is it for?** It is suggested that it is for people with oily or combination skin, but I think it would be fine to use on drier skin, as so far it has had no drying effects on me. **Price and Availability** The toner is available from Boots stores or online at www.boots.com, and costs £6.50 for 200ml, but as ever with Boots, its worth checking out some of the offers. **What I think of it** As I mentioned before, I have been using this toner for a long time, so I must like it! It is reasonably priced and lasts for ages if used twice daily- a lot seems to go a long way. The toner is non drying, and really does remove any last traces of make up. When I have used it, my face feels nicely cleaned and any pores which have been enlarged feel tightened. However, unlike some toners, it is non astringent, so your skin wont feel unpleasantly tight. The plastic bottle is a good idea, especially if your bathroom floor is tiled like mine- no chance of little hands picking up and dropping the bottle. Another plus point is that the top is quite difficult to pull off- almost child proof. I like the fact that there is no wastage because of the press down pump action applicator, so no longer do I suffer an extremely wet face due to applying too much toner. So, all in all, a good value, effective toner. Recommended. Thanks for reading. Daniela xx
