This is a product I have had quite a few times over the years as it is frequently given away for "free" in no7 beauty bags.
This is by boots and can therefore only be bought from boots. To be honest I dont look at boots as being that cheap unless they have one of their 3 for 2 promotions on and even then they do that offer on "proper brands" as well so I don't buy from them that often. this product is aimed at the 20- 30 age group with other products aimed at older people.
**Price- Would I buy**
This costs around £23 for the 30 ml and at that price I wouldn't buy. When you think that its a shop brand I would want it to be cheaper.
Like most products for general use the effects are not that long lasting on dry skin. One thing I do really like with this is that I can apply to my neck where I have really bad psoriasis and it doesn't irritate it at all,In fact I have been known to use it just for this part of my face and a normal face cream for the other areas. I like that this does not really have a smell and that I only use a tiny amount at a time due to using it on a small area. Psoriasis is dry flaky skin and although this doesn't get rid of it,this helps to keep it more manageable,. This has even left the skin area feeling quite soft and moisturised after application (again not long term) which is something that doesn't happen very often.
I started using this product in my early 20s and fell in love. The texture is fantastic, really light and easy to apply. My skin was left feeling smoother and soft and I noticed a difference after just one week. You don't need to use a lot of product so despite the higher price point I think it's a great value for money product. I suffer with acne and this product didn't aggravate my spots at all.
I prefered the squeezy plastic tubes to the traditional glass bottle as you get more of the product out. The glass bottle is much nice on the dressing table though! The fragrance is nice, not too overpowering. The protect and perfect range has since grown so there are a number of complimentary products to use alongside the serum.
Older skins would be better suited to the Lift and Luminate or Protect and Perfect intense.
Well recommended. Definitely worth the hype surrounding it!
I have never been one to have a 'skin care regime' as such... occasionally I browse the shelves in my local Boots and have a look at all the different products but to be honest, they do confuse me somewhat! This was until I was given this product as a free trial and ever since I have been using this regularly and purchasing my own. No7 Protect and Prefect beauty serum.
Serums are meant to penetrate the skin deeper than most moisturisors and in the process, plump up the skin and smooth out wrinkles. As I am 26 I am lucky to be without wrinkles at the moment but I like to use this as a prevention cream and it does make my skin feel wonderfully silky smooth. The product is also said to work well on sun damaged skin, I have found it very soothing to use on the odd occasion that I sunburn my face.
Boots claim that after four weeks of use of this serum the appearance of lines and wrinkles will be reduced by up to 50% which is quite a bold claim I think. After six months deep wrinkles are visibly reduced and you should be left with younger looking skin.
You should use this serum twice daily but I only use it once, mainly because I want to make it last and I feel that one application is enough for my skin. Just apply a pea sized amount to the face and neck area and massage in once your skin has been cleansed, moisturise as normal afterwards as this is not a replacement for moisturiser.
I do feel that this works, my skin certainly feels more plump and healthy after use and with a few weeks of use the dark circles under my eyes appeared to reduce a little. I love the silky feeling this gives to my skin and despite being the most expensive serum / cream I have used I think it is worth the money.
I'd recommend this serum 100%, I feel that you really benefit from regular use from this product and that it has helped keep my dry skin looking young and hydrated. There is also a range for the next age group of 35-50 and that contains a more intense serum, my Mum likes this one.
The Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum comes in a 30ml tube and costs £22.95. The intense version is a pound more for the same same size for the older age range. Look out for the 3 for 2 offers in Boots and also the sales in the New Year as you can pick up No7 gift sets containing this serum for a very good price, I stocked up last year as as you don't have to use much, it really does last well.
If in doubt give it a try, I'm sure the nice assistants in Boots will have a sample you can try! Thank you for reading.
My friendly beauty therapist tells me that skincare is all about layering but there seem so many different products on the market nowadays, that my beauty regime takes more and more time. However she has convinced me to use a serum under my moisturiser (day and night) and my product of choice is the Boots No 7.
What was all the fuss about?
Serums work at a deeper level than moisturisers and are highly concentrated formulas which help plump up wrinkles and generally improve the appearance of dull skin.
Horizon featured the serum back in 2008 and found that the cream worked as well as prescription treatments for combating sun damage. This of course was great news for Boots and their shelves were cleared within a fortnight.
The active ingredient in the No 7 serum is Matrixyl which boosts collagen production. According to Boots after 4 weeks of use, the appearance of lines and wrinkles will be reduced by up to 50%. After 6 months, skin elasticity is improved and deep wrinkles are visibly reduced.
How to use
It's really very simple; just smooth a small amount on to face and neck after cleansing. I normally use two small pea sized dollops. When I first started using the serum, I only used half this amount but just recently my skin seems extra dry and so I've doubled the amount I put on. After that moisturize and continue your beauty regime as usual. The advice is to use the serum twice daily - morning and evening.
Does it work?
Yes, I think it does. The serum feels nice. It has no fragrance and is quickly absorbed into the skin. It's not greasy at all but most importantly the fine lines that were appearing around my eyes and above my lips have definitely lessened since I introduced the serum into my beauty routine. I know that the march of time is inevitable but I'd rather hold the visible signs back as long as I can.
Would I recommend?
Yes definitely. I am a devotee of No 7 products. They have a wide range of anti-aging products aimed at various age groups. Protect & Perfect for ages 25-35, Protect & Perfect Intense for ages 35-45, Lift and Luminate for ages 45-60 and Restore and Renew for 60+.for older skins. Each range has their own version of the beauty serum. I've tried the serums in the first three ranges and apart from the cost I honestly can't differentiate between them.
The Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum comes in a 30ml tube and costs £22.95. The intense version is a pound more for the same same size and the Lift and Luminate and Restore and Renew ranges have day and night serums which come in at £24.95. There are often good offers on No 7 products - currently it's three for the price of two. I look out for their offers with free gifts - usually a little bag with some small tester size versions of No 7 moisturisers which are great for travelling and some No 7 make up - mascara, lip gloss etc.
Ladies and Gents (there is an anti-ageing range for men too), if you're worried about the first sign of wrinkles they I would say this serum is definitely worth a go. 5 out of 5 from me.
After reading about Protect and Perfect and all the wonderful reviews for it I went to Boot's and bought the serum and the matching day and night creams that were specifically for my age range. I had really high hopes for the serum as this was the one that I was most looking forward to using but unfortunately my skin just didn't seem to like it very much and I ended up having to stop using it before I had finished my first tube.
Boot's are obviously confident with the serum after all the positive reviews and feedback as I thought it was really expensive at £22.95 for a small tube. I was willing to pay this because I had hoped that it would work as a preventative measure on my skin to help stop wrinkles from forming.
It promises to reduce the appearance of pores and smooth lines and wrinkles within 4 weeks. I have no wrinkles but I do have faint lines around my eyes and my forehead that I was hoping this would help me with.
I thought the serum was nice to use as it felt really lightweight and was easy to smooth all over my face even with just a tiny amount from the tube. It also smelt really nice.
I used this after cleansing and then I put the matching protect and perfect moisturiser on top of it as recommended.
This just didn't seem to agree with my skin at all. I noticed that after applying it my skin would look blotchy and I would have to put heavier foundation on top to cover these blotches. It didn't make me itch but I must have been sensitive to something in the ingredients. I also noticed that even though I was using this and the matching moisturiser my skin felt and looked drier than it normally does especially around my cheeks where I had dry patches. I also noticed that around my chin and nose that I was breaking out in small spots much more than I normally would even when I am on my period.
I did some experimenting with using the moisturisers and the serum separately and I found that my skin was fine with the moisturisers and it was only the serum that was causing my skin to have trouble. As this is so expensive I would recommend going in to boot's and trying it a few times before actually buying it as although most people seem to be fine with it you could have trouble like myself with it and you don't want to waste the money buying it only to discover that it isn't right for your skin.
I am sure that this is a great serum as I have some friends who swear by it but unfortunately it wasn't for me and my skin which is a shame as I was really looking forward to using it.
I'm going to start this review with a confession. Well, maybe confession is a strong word given that I'm just going to reveal my conclusion about the product in question before I get going, but given how universally loved said product is, it feels like a confession.
I do not like Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Serum. It doesn't work, and in fact had negative effects on my skin.
There, I've said it. Now I'll review it properly. My mum loved the Protect & Perfect Serum from the get-go, and some time ago she bought me a tube of it, hoping that I would like it too. In all honesty, I'm not entirely sure what the aim of the serum is - probably smooth, well moisturised skin.
I used the serum after cleansing and before moisturising. You really only need to use a tiny amount, and smooth it gently over your skin. The serum is pleasant to use, with a nice fragrance and silky feel to it. It absorbed into my skin easily, and left my skin feeling soft even before I had moisturised. I found I had no problems using my moisturiser afterwards, it absorbed as easily as ever.
However, the problem with the serum came in the long-term. A few weeks after I started using it, I started to notice dry patches of skin on my face, which I needed to re-moisturise during the day. I didn't think a lot of it at first, but this continued for a few months, therefore over a couple of seasons meaning I couldn't blame the weather as I tend to for dry skin. After a while I realised that the only thing which had changed in my skin routine was that I had started using the Protect & Perfect Serum. It seemed odd that such a popular product would give me dry skin, but nonetheless I stopped using it - and within a week or two, my dry skin had cleared up.
So for some reason the Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect Serum, which has been hailed as a miracle product, disagreed with me. It gave me dry skin, which is something I absolutely loathe and can get a bit paranoid about, therefore I really don't like the serum.
This beauty serum is one that I have used on an off for about 2 years now, maybe more. I remember when it was all hyped up as actually being one that works and it was sold out for weeks on it, I made a nice sum of money selling mine on eBay at the time too which was nice and then finally it was back in stock and now it is part of a fairly regular Boots 3 for 2 on No 7 items. I tend to buy 3 of these at a time, just to get the most free for my spend, and I go through one of these every 2 months or so.
One bottle of this contains just 30ml but as this is a serum it is more concentrated and therefore you only need to use a small amount anyway. It is currently priced around the £21.00 mark and this is quite reasonable, to me at least, for what this does for my skin. This bottle of serum is packaged in a cardboard box and in all it looks quite desirable and nice. I'm not really one to fall for a product because of pretty packaging, however, it looks stylish and I have no problem leaving the bottle out in my bathroom or anything. This serum is advertised as helping with wrinkles and other age caused skin problems by 50%.
Inside the packaging the bottle is a cloudy one. Its quite sturdy and heavy and can be stood up next to my bathroom sink at all times with no worries about it falling over and breaking. I have knocked this over on one occasion and it survived without a mark or without breaking. The bottle has a pump action nozzle and there is a lid of course to keep this clean and dry when not in use. The bottle has information on it and its all quite informative and simple to read, this serum is hypo-allergenic which is great for those with sensitive skin.
This serum is really straight forward to use. I use this after I cleanse and tone but before I moisturise and I use it twice a day. A small amount is needed and this is a light coloured light feeling cream that should be applied lightly and it is quickly absorbed, on my face at least. The serum has a thick yet light feeling to it and it is easy to spread across my skin. I focus on the areas around my eyes and the areas at the corner of my mouth. This serum sinks in quite quickly and it leaves my skin lovely and soft and smooth.
I must say that the reason I keep buying this serum is because it really does work for me! The small lines I had forming around my mouth have improved and I have no real bad wrinkles around my eyes either now. I feel confident that my skin looks and feels great when people are looking at me in the eyes and when I kiss my husband or smile a lot I do not have to worry about lines at the side of my mouth.
In all I have found this serum to be fantastic. It is simple to apply and blends in quickly and simply. It has definitely helped me to improve the lines on my face and has helped me feel more confident about smiling, laughing and generally being quite expressive in my face. I appreciate that this serum is quite expensive, however, for the results it gives I would certainly pay £40 not £21!
I would give this product 5 out of 5 and I would definitely recommend it. I will continue to buy this in the future with no qualms about the price.
Since the moment I used this product my skin was visibly softer, smoother and nourished. The serum doesn't make your skin greasy at all like most moisturisers I've tried. This is such a good quality product I would highly recommend it to anyone to use as part of their normal skin care routine as it gives instant results,is low prices and the bottle lasts ages! This is one to stock up on for sure!I've also tried the no7 perfect balance skin cream, day and might cream and eye cream, they all are good quality but none give a instant perfect result like the perfect and protect serum.i would recommend the intense version though as once again this is very cheap and gives amazing results instantly and can be used day and night..or both!so is very universal and highly recommended to all ages/skin types!A must have for all women of all ages!and there's a men's version too!
I have bought the Protect and Perfect line twice so far. I like the line overall. I use the day cream and the night cream everyday after applying the serum. I don't have fine lines yet in my early 30s, I am just hopoing this would prevent them. I do have discoloration on my face and was hoping the serum would help with that. The serum feels very silky when applied, and it really just sinks into your skin. Use it after you wash your face (apply toner for better absorption). I have been told that my skin looks great, but I don't think this serum helps with my discoloration/pigmentation problem, it doesnt brighten my skin in the way that makes the pigmentation less obvious. It does however make my skin smoother and looks healthy. The serum I got comes in a tube, I actually quite like the packaging. You can squeeze out as little or as much as you need. While I like the night cream the most out of the Protect and Perfect line, I don't know yet if this serum is my Holy Grail. It may work well because I don't notice any fine lines so far, and hopefully I won't for a few more years :) I may still get it just because you can get a good deal if you buy the package when it's on offer especially near Christmas.
I have the small 30ml tube of this serum, which costs around £19.50 from Boots. They tend to do a three for two offer on No7 which makes it a more reasonable price. I bought the serum as a treat due to reviews that it would improve the appearance of your skin.
I have not been that impressed with the serum. It has made my skin feel smooth and toned after application, and I have been using it as a moisturiser. I like the feel of it on my skin and believe my skin has got a bit smoother after application, but not as much as I would have liked. However it does sink well into your skin and does not make it greasy.
I have also found that the serum smells a bit odd; maybe it is just me but it doesn't really smell of anything I can put my finger on but it smells weird. This is definitely a disadvantage of the product in my opinion.
Another disadvantage is the price. I think for the price that this serum is a bit over rated as although it made my skin smooth I don't think it is worth the price.
I first used Boots No.7 Protect and Perfect Beauty Serum when I got it in a gift set.
The serum is pale cream coloured and very easy to rub in to your face. It absorbs quickly and isn't at all sticky. It doesn't have a particular smell that I've noticed.
I use this every day after washing my face, before I put moisturiser and eye cream on. I have now been using it for maybe 2 years, and I have noticed that it has made a difference. I'm 26 and didn't have any particular problems with wrinkes, I had a few creases on my forehead and some lines around my eyes and mouth. The smile lines around my mouth haven't altered but the creases on my forehead, although they are still there, are less noticeable. As for the lines around my eyes, these have almost completely gone. Whether this is just down to the beauty serum or if it is the eye cream I use (also No.7) I'm not really sure.
The major downside (probably the only downside) to this serum is the price. I can't believe how expensive it is! So far I've mainly used the ones I've had in gift sets, although I did buy 3 tubes when they were on offer 3 for 2, and I also had a No.7 £5 voucher.
I think this serum is good, I would continue using it as long as I could buy it on offer, not at full price.
Shopping in Boots recently for a few essentials, I saw they were running one of their frequent 3-for-2 offers on the No 7 range, so headed over to see if I could get what I needed from the No 7 stand, and pick up a freebie in the process. Moisturiser: check, concealer: check. Now all I needed was a third item to make up the trio. Scanning the shelves, I saw a label which caught my eye: 'Skincare product of the year 2009' (or something along those lines). The product it referred to was No 7 Protect and Perfect Beauty Serum. Usually, the £19 price tag would have sent me running for the automatic doors, but I have to admit, I was sucked in by the advertising around it, which claimed that here was one of the few products which actually worked. Convincing myself that it would actually work out quite cheap as part of the 3-for-2 offer, I bought it, and headed home feeling excited about the prospect of having perfect skin.
I have to admit, my skincare problems over the years have left me a bit susceptible to splashing out on random lotions and potions that claim to work wonders. Having dry skin, that's somehow also prone to spots, I seem to have to been at war with my skin for a good few years now, and any new addition to my arsenal is very welcome! At 26, the last thing I want is to add premature ageing to my list of skincare problems, so I hoped that this serum would stop those pesky wrinkles in their tracks, while generally perking my tired skin up a bit. The blurb on the back of the box was encouraging: 'Reveal younger looking, beautifully refined skin with this powerful blend of protecting and renewing ingredients.'
On opening the box, I was disappointed by the size of the tube inside- it was so thin that you could have fitted two in the roomy box. Forking out almost £20 for a small, 30ml tube was starting to look like a bad idea. Still, it looked good, with its simple labelling and design giving it a clean, elegant appearance that I hoped would reflect on my skin! The tube was well designed, with the screw cap at the base covering a thin nozzle. Squeezing the tube, I found this nozzle was great for controlling the amount of serum that came out- this is an absolute essential for any expensive skin cream as it ensures there's no waste.
The pearly white serum is fragrance free, but has a very subtle, elegant scent to it, that matches its appearance perfectly. Applying it to my skin for the first time, I was amazed by its super smooth consistency- it glided onto my skin like liquid silk, and was quickly absorbed. I soon found that a little went a long way- a small blob or two on my fingertip was enough to cover my whole face (just as well, considering the price!).
Moving onto the all-important effects of this serum, the first thing to note is that my skin feels noticeably softer and smoother after using this, and also has a subtle, dewy look, without being at all greasy. This means I only need to use moisturiser on the driest areas of my face, instead of slapping it on all over. Great! Not so great is the fact that after using this daily for a week, I started noticing tiny pimples on my usually spot-free forehead. I laid off the serum for a few days, and the pimples vanished, clearly indicating that this was the culprit. I was surprised- the box stated that the serum was hypo-allergenic, and had been 'tried and tested by customers with even the most sensitive skin'. Another of its claims was to 'reduce the appearance of pores'- in my case, it just seemed to block them! Perhaps these pimples were part of the 'younger looking skin' mentioned on the tube- I certainly looked more like a spotty teenager than before! In the end, I found that cutting down to one application every other day (instead of using twice daily, as suggested) was the only way to keep the pimples at bay, while still enjoying the smooth softness that the serum brought to my skin.
And the much hyped anti-ageing claims? Well, I'm sorry to report that I've seen no discernable difference in the appearance of my wrinkles during the three months I've been religiously applying this. As the box implies that users will see an improvement in four weeks, this has been a bit of a let-down. The only thing I can hope is that this will somehow act as a preventative measure- after all, the 'unique antioxidant complex helps protect against damaging free radicals, while concentrated levels of intense skin-firming pro-retinol complex boost and maintain elasticity'. Given my experience so far, I'm more than a little sceptical about these claims, but hey, I live in hope! If this product isn't directly turning back the clock, at least I can cling onto thought that it might be pausing it!
So, despite the immediate positive effects of this serum, I have to doubt the benefits of long term use. Its price would also put me off buying it again; considering that I've used more than half a tube in three months, using it less frequently than suggested, this would be too expensive to justify incorporating it into my skincare routine in the future. I've learnt an important lesson though- I'd rather accept the natural ageing of my skin than spend my money on overpriced anti-ageing products that can't possibly work the miracles that they promise!
I have been using protect and perfect beauty serum now for over 6 months. I have average combination skin, and I am 40 years old.
Initially I was very skeptical about it claims, however I have found the results to be reasonably good. On the positive side the wrinkles around my eyes have definitely been reduced, I have even had a few comments recently about how young I am looking.
On the negative side it seems to have done nothing to improve the texture of my skin, I have problems with open pores. It would also be benefical if the serum contained ingredients to help with uneven skin tone.
In summary, while results are not dramatic, I do notice a difference for the better, especially with regard to wrinkles. I usually purchase the product on a three for two offer, so its not so expensive. Will definitely continue to use regulary.
I started to use Boots No 7 Protect and Perfect intensive serum and shortly afterwards started to come out in angry red spots. I immediately stopped using the cream imagining the spots would eventually clear up but two months later I still have what can only be described as terrible acne on my cheeks and jawline. This is very distressing, particularly as the spots are painful, difficult to conceal with make-up and show no sign of clearing up. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue? If so, has your skin cleared up and how?
I don't have a history of sensitive skin and have never had a reaction like it before - don't use this product!
I wish I'd come across more realistic reviews regarding Boots No 7 Protect & Perfect serum before using it. Shortsightedly I only looked at the feedback and reviews on the Boots website - which are all glowing.
==Boots No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Beauty Serum==
This beauty Serum is now known to be one of the very few serums that actually does what it claims to do and has been out on the shelves for a good while now. It was only recently that I decided to treat myself to a bottle of the stuff and give it a try.
The bottle is a 30 ml one and costs £20.50 pence which for the amount you get is on the more costly side compared with quite a few others. I was lucky enough to have a £5 voucher for the No7 range and also I get a 10% discount with my professional discount card therefore this brought the price down to a more reasonable one.
The bottle of the serum comes housed within an outer cardboard box that has plenty of information about the product on. It tells you that the serum is "Independently proven to restore skin's structure, visibly improving deep lines and wrinkles by up to 50%".
The bottle inside is a cloudy glass one and is on the heavy side too. The design looks very tidy, sleek and rather nice. The lid is pulled off the show the pump action nozzle and the bottle itself does have some information about the product but of course not as much as the cardboard packaging. It states that the serum is "hypo-allergenic".
The serum itself doesn't really have much of a smell to it so I am sure it would be suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin. The serum is a light cream colour although does have a slightly translucent look to it. It feels slightly thick to apply but once it is on the skin it seems to glide across the skins surface and soak into the skin so fast and easily leaving the skin feeling silky smooth and refreshed.
The serum is ideal for using before a heavier moisturiser and this is exactly what I have been doing for the last month or so each morning. I apply the serum to a clean face and follow with another No7 moisturiser I have. My skin has literally never looked better.
The serum has seemed to irradicate the few fine lines that I did have around my mouth from smiling and these were really bothering me before now. In just about a month this serum has really done what it claimed to do and I know that my mum uses nothing but this and does have great skin.
I would certainly say that this is a great product that does really work. I don't know how it would work if I had deeper wrinkles and more of them, but it has worked for my small fine lines and for that reason a score of 5 stars is in order.
Many thanks for taking the time to read.
I do hope that this has been of some help/interest to you.
