Boots No7 Radiance Revealed Exfoliator
Advantages: Removes all dead skin from the face and leaves your skin soft and smooth
Disadvantages: The particles can be really rough if you use too much pressure
I am a terror for being attracted to a free gift, even when it's technically not free. On my latest visit to Boots I saw that they were giving away a free goodie bag worth £35 and all I had to do was buy £22 of No7 products that I hadn't really wanted and definitely didn't need. Nevertheless, I was very happy with my bag of treats and one of those treats was the No7 Radiance Revealed Exfoliator.
What does the product do?
The product promises to sweep away the top layer of dead and dulling skin cells from the surface of your face to reveal the shiny new layer underneath. As it performs this gentle exfoliating action, the product claims to remove all impurities from the skin and to give it a deep and thorough cleanse. Not only this but it promises to reduce the size of the pores, encourage healthy new skin cells to develop, soften and brighten the face and to leave your skin feeling energised. Not bad going for a 'freebie'.
How does the product work?
The product contains Glycerin which is a humectant. This means that is draws moisture deeply into the skin and allows the skin to retain it which prevents the face from becoming dry, losing its elasticity and developing wrinkles. Jojoba Oil is also present in order to moisturise the skin while helping to regulate the oils produced by the skin. This means fewer blemishes will form and you will remain shine free for longer. It also nourishes the skin and kills any spot causing bacteria.
The exfoliating action of this product is actually performed by Pumice which is a volcanic rock. Tiny pieces of pumice slough off the dead skin and reveal the lovely new skin cells, meaning that your complexion will be brighter and your face will be smoother. Fruit extract is included to nourish your skin with vitamins and minerals while lemon and orange is present in order to tighten and brighten the skin. Panthenol is present because it is an antioxidant so will help to keep your skin looking youthful while Sugar Maple feeds the skin with Zinc which strengthens it and helps to keep blemishes at bay.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied to damp skin and massaged into the face gently for a few minutes, taking care to avoid the eye area. After a few minutes you need to rinse away the product thoroughly, pat the face dry and follow up with a good moisturiser. The product should be used no more than twice weekly as it will strip the skin of its natural moisture and end up doing more harm than good.
Packaging and Price
The product comes in a frosty plastic tube and you can see the product inside. The plastic is thin enough in order to easily dispense the product and there is a tiny hole in the top which prevents you from dispensing too much if you get squeeze happy. The lid is a screw top one which can be a pain as you need to finish exfoliating your face before you can reapply the lid, which means that if you are as clumsy as I am, you will have misplaced it when that time comes.
My little tube was technically free and I got 15ml of the product for my troubles. The full sized bottle costs around £8 and you will get 75ml of the product. It is available from most Boots stores and it can also be bought from their online website.
The product is fairly thick in its consistency and has a rich creamy white colour. The exfoliating particles look blue in colour and although the product is hardly jam packed with them, there are certainly enough of them in there to do the job properly. The product doesn't really have any scent at all, despite the inclusion of all those fruity ingredients and actually smells faintly of chamomile lotion but you need to breathe in deeply to detect anything at all.
You need to use a fair amount of the product to get the desired results and when you smooth the product onto damp skin, it goes clear. The particles are very hard, just as you would expect volcanic rock to be. Pumice is usually used to remove dry skin on tough skin such as the feet so I was surprised to see it included in a facial product. Needless to say, you don't need to apply much pressure to the face when you use this product or you may end up taking off all of your skin!
The product doesn't foam on the skin which isn't a problem for me because you can still feel that it is doing a good job. When it is on the skin, it doesn't cause any irritation and it isn't painful, as long as you don't go overboard with the pressure. When it is time to remove the product, it can take a while for all the particles to be washed away and it feels a little bit like when you try to get sand off your skin after spending the day on the beach. Even after a good period of rinsing, I still see the little bits on my skin and some of them are on my towel after I've dried my skin.
My face stings quite a bit after use but it doesn't look red or irritated. The sensation dies down after a few minutes and my skin feels comfortable again. All of this becomes irrelevant when I think of the results. After use, my face feels as soft and silky as if I had already applied a moisturiser although there is a little bit of tightness present. There is absolutely no roughness left on my face and all of my dry and flaky skin has been banished. My complexion looked radiant and healthy from the very first use.
Because the product removes dead skin cells so effectively and cleanses the pores, I have noticed a reduction in blemishes. My pores are becoming smaller in size and so my skin looks smoother although I'm not binning my Porefession just yet. My skin is also less oily and so my face remains matte for longer on the day that I use this which is always a good thing.
All in all, this is a really good exfoliator that will remove every dead skin cell from the surface of your face. I wouldn't describe the action that it performs as gentle so I think this one would be too harsh on really sensitive skin. Once you eventually get the product off your skin, you will find your face feels super soft and smooth and you will look instantly more awake and healthy. This is a really great product, just remember to go easy on the pressure!!
Summary: A facial exfoliator that cleanses the skin and brightens the complexion
