“ Brand: Boots / Texture: Cream / Type: Moisturiser / Subcategory: Serum / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Hydrates / Product line: Boots No7 „
Well I purchased the pore refining serum just over two weeks ago-thanks to a Boots NO7 £5.00 off voucher! The original retail price is £12.50,but with the voucher I got it for £7.50.
I felt the need to write a review on it as I've had ,so far, some wonderful results with it(woop! woop!) I'm not going to go into too much detail about the packaging as its not really too important, but for those of you who would like to know,it comes in a long rectangular box-the side bars being light blue, and the front and back are white (excluding the print which is black all around.) The front gives the name and reads hypo-allergenic,and the back gives a description of what the product does)On one side(the blue panel) we have ingredients listed(the noteworthy one being 'willow bark') and on the other side the product has a small statement about how the product has been 'created with care'.
I had started using this product as a last resort. My skins gone cuckoo these last few months and it affected my confidence alot. The colour was dull and the blackheads and large pores only made matters worse.Despite my immaculate skin care regime nothing seemed to be working.I did some research online beforehand about this product's main ingredient 'willowbark' which contains salycylic acid, renowned for helping mild to moderate acne.
Now onto the actual product:well upon flicking I think the bottle is frosted glass(please don't take my word for it though, its an assumption)It has a velvety matte feel, and has a 30ml capacity. The lid is plastic and has a shimmery pearly finish. The lid covers the pump, which has a gold painted base, and white nozzle.
When I first tried this serum,I had a tiny bit of difficulty as you have to press the pump a few times before the liquid begins to come out,but once it is out,it tends to be quite runny.I had to have a sniff of it before beginning and I must admit it smells really pleasant, think tangy and fruity. The colour of the serum is white with a tinge of shimmery pink tones(very slight)
The product is to be applied to clean skin-and thats exactly what I did.It has a slightely sticky feel when just applied but does dry quickly.I use two to three pumps, because although it does say it should be blended where pores are more visible,I personally don't like to 'miss a spot'. Then I applied my moisturizer.
It took alot of guts, but I decided to go without makeup(I've tried going without makeup before but normally that doesn't work).Note:The product clearly states the serum makes a great makeup base, but I haven't personally used it for this purpose)
I did this again in the evening and continued to do so for a few more days.It was then somebody mentioned how good my skin was looking(I hadn't worn any makeup since using the product, thats when I knew it was working)
Now I'm in my third week and my pores are clearly smaller. My blackheads have just cleared up completely.I haven't had anymore breakouts and my skin looks more, and has a lovely pink hue to it!So far so good.I will be continuing to use it and hope that my skins condition will get better.
I've got to give it five stars as its great value(The bottle still has about 80% left in it) and actually works!Highly recommended.
I purchased this product for the first time around one year ago. I have combination skin that is prone to spots and have always had larger more viable open pores. Over the years I have tried many pore minimising products and non have seemed to work so I was a little apprehensive when it came to this one.
I used it every day after cleansing and toning in the morning and after around two weeks began to see visible results my pores were smaller and my skin felt much smoother and appeared much brighter. I now use this product every day and would not be without it. It glides on easily and feels light and not at all sticky. I use it with other boots No7 products including there day and night cream. It is quite a good price and is often on offer as Boots tend to run many 3 for 2 or money of promotions on there No7 range which I tend to take advantage of and stock up on a regular basis.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that has enlarged pores and want to try and achieve a smother complexion, hopefully it will work for others as well as it has worked for me.
I've always had really noticably pores on my nose and chin and although my skin care routine was making a difference it wasn't working fast enough. So I decided to give this pore refining serum a try.
I wasn't expecting miracles as I had tried various pore minimising treatments over the years and none of them had really improved my pore size but after only a few days use this one appeared to work.
The serum has a thick texture which absorbs into the skin quickly cooling and soothing as it does. The serum smells great and is non-greasy so provides a great base for make up application. It doesn't dry out the skin nor does it increase oiliness.
After two weeks daily use the size of my pores had reduced dramatically and the improvement was really visible. Not only did it reduce my pores it also improved the skin tone around my nose and chin which could at times be very red. My skin appeared much healthier and had a natural glow.
The serum comes in a 30ml bottle which cost around £11.50 - I know it sounds expensive but I can assure you that only a small amount of product is required upon each use and the results are more than worth the cost.
When it comes to open pores on my face they really do drive me crazy! This is really a problem for me along with blackheads and the usual pains from time to time that insist on appearing!
I love No7 products (as a rule) from Boots and when I saw this product on offer for £6.00 instead of its usual price tag of £11.50 it almost jumped into my basket all by itself! It seemed by title the perfect product for me!
Light blue cardboard oblong box with the gold No7 embellished on the front and then all in dark grey writing under that I'm told it is 'Hydro Quench Pore-Refining Serum' that 'Instantly reduces the appearance of pores for smooth, radian skin' and that it's for Normal/Combination Skin and is Hypo-Allergenic. On one side of the box ingredients are listed, the recycle symbol is displayed, contact details for Boots are given and the size is stated (30ml). On the back of the box I'm told a bit about the product and what to expect from it, given directions for use, a promise from Boots about the quality of this product is given and on the bottom of the box there is a bar-code on there. The bottle itself is long, white and slightly frosted excellent quality glass with a shimmery white plastic lid that covers a white plastic push button dispenser that is integrated into gold giving it a really classy look. On the front of the bottle once again I'm told what it is and who it is by and on the back told what it is and given directions for (use once again), contact details for Boots are given, size and the recycle symbol are once again shown. I really do like the bottle of this and appreciate the large size of it and although it is frosted I can see the white liquid through the bottle so I know when to replace it (if I want to of course!).

My Experience Using It...
Well it pumps out of it's dispenser really easily. It's a really light pinkish/white lotion that smells mildly fruity (but only gently so) and in a none in your face way or anything distinctive and once you've used it, it loses that smell immediately anyway. Not really creamy, it's more runny than anything and not at all an oily consistency I was expecting from a serum.
It's a very, very runny lotion (so be careful handling it) and it doesn't blend so well. By that I mean skin drinks immediately but when your rubbing it into your face because skin drinks it a little doesn't go far of this product so I apply some (to clean skin that well moisturised and dried in as directed) and keep adding more as I go along so I don't get into a mess with it.
As I say as you touch the skin with it skin absorbs it so you have to quickly and gently sweep it over the face so no hard rubbing is required and it feels quite a dry lotion really. Weird to explain but it doesn't feel like using a moisturiser and this feels like it puts a 'film' on the skin.
The problem is although the lotion gets absorbed and it feels light on the face (eventually) for about an hour after using it my skin feels a little clammy and sticky to the touch and a tad tight. Not badly or anything and it's ok if I'm not wearing make up and that feeling does eventually wear off however if I want to apply my make-up over this I do have to let that feeling wear off over time before any make up application. Once the feeling is gone then you can put make up over the top very well indeed and it does give a smooth base to start with.
I hate to say this but it does nothing for me really and I'm disappointed with it. I have visible open pores and even my little ones it makes no immediate difference to at all. I have been using this on a regular basis over 3 weeks and nope... my skin is no better in general sadly. I have to say that in my view it's even dried out a little of my skin and I feel that's due to it's quick absorption and gooey feeling left behind it. It hasn't given me any more spots or made my skin react to it in a negative way though and the only benefit of this is in the short term When I do apply it I do feel it gives me a touch of glow and does give radiant, dewy and fresh looking skin, but that's it.
However pores.... nothing. If you can pick this up cheap by all means have a go with it and its not a complete dead loss as it does give the appearance of healthy looking skin after-all but if it's not on offer and your paying out over a tenner? Nope I wouldn't bother. Believe me I have persisted with this and I'm sadly going nowhere fast! lol
