“ Brand: Boots / Type: Anti Ageing / What it does: Smoothes, Rejuvenates, Lifts / Product line: Boots No7 „
Last July after some really bad news I went to Boots to spend like there was no tomorrow. I felt like cr*p and I really wanted to perk myself up, particularly my skin, so I asked the No.7 representitive for some advice.
I explained to her that I have combination skin, quite an oily nose and chin, but a dry forehead and cheeks. I told her that I wasn't particularly worried about wrinkles, as I am only 25, but that I wanted to protect against aging and I wanted to do something about the traces of worry lines and around the mouth laughter lines I had.
She recommended a skin care regime for me which I will briefly outline:
Morning (Daily): Cleanse with No 7 Beautifully Balanced Purifying Cleanser, Tone with No 7 Beautifully Balanced Purifying Toner, Moisturise with No 7 Advanced Hydration Day Cream
Evening (Daily): Cleanse with No 7 Beautifully Balanced Purifying Cleanser, Tone with No 7 Beautifully Balanced Purifying Toner, Moisturise with No 7 Advanced Hydration Night Cream
Couple of times each week: No 7 Total Renewal Microdermabrasion Scrub
No 7 Line Lift was the product she recommended to protect against my wrinkles and to smooth out my lines - she advised me to use it every other day on an evening prior to using my moisturiser. The product cost £9.75 for 20ml and I am still using the same tube (yes, since July last year) and I have been using it around 3 times per week.
The product comes in a ivory-cream tube, adorned with gold lettering in the classic No 7 style, with a precision tip applicator. It has a screw top lid. The product is a line filling collagen booster which claims to leave the skin looking softer, smoother and more youthful. It is supposed to improve the look of even the deeper wrinkles with skin looking plumper and less lined in 2 weeks. It is hypo-allergenic and dermatologically tested.
The formula contains hyaluranic acid which is said to absorb water in the upper layers of the skin and inflate to many times their original size, appearing to push wrinkles away from within. Hyaluranic acid comes from Hyaluronan; a compound which is widely used in anti aging solutions. In 2003 Hyaluronan injections were approved for filling soft tissue defects such as facial wrinkles. In testing, when there has been a presence of this compound in the skin, it has been shown to promote keratinocyte and retinoic acid production, leading to increased moisture - so in effect this formula should work. But it has been proven to be a short term effect, with long term maintenance required (i.e. continued use).
The big question - does it work? Well as I say I am only 25, my skin is pretty wrinkle free, with the exception of a few worry lines and quite deep smile lines where my cheeks meet my mouth. I have been using the product 3 times a week on average since July. Well, I can definitely confirm that my skin is plumper, and my laughter lines are a lot less noticeable (I can tell as make up doesn't settle so much in them!) and my worry lines are much smoother - I noticed these effects within about 2 - 3 weeks. I have found that the product is very easily absorbed in to the skin, within seconds ready for you to follow it with moisturiser - you must follow it with moisturiser as it is not a replacement product. You only need to use a tiny bit, and so far I have had it 6 months, so the £9.75 is good value for money - plus I bought it when No 7 products were on 3 for 2 (as they are now) and I had vouchers to get more points with the purchase.
Would I recommend this product? Yes, definitely I can imagine the results being amplified if your wrinkles are more prominent, in truth the product is probably a suitable 30+ product as it is rich in anti-aging ingredients, but I think it is light enough and it is non pore clogging, so it is suitable if your making an investment in your wrinkly future!
I wandered into the Body Shop- pointed from my head to my toes saying to the assistant - "Do you do this in a smaller size and a younger model?".
Disappointed by her response, I wandered over to Boots and decided to have a go at the problem one step at a time. Well I had to, I was being offered a seat on the bus, that is when it gets serious.
I picked up a number of products, but the marketing line on the back of No.7 Line Lift was very persuasive.... "Magic away the years......" Quick, where do I pay? I need to get home, ( no doubt seated on the bus!), and get this tube open and working.
Line Lift is a collagen line filling treatment- it won't get rid of lines altogether but it will make them smoother and plumper, hence giving a more youthful appearance.
The 20mil tube costs £9.75 and is very easy to use. It doesn't work overnight, it takes two weeks of daily application before you see the real difference.
I personally apply at night after having thoroughly cleansed my skin.
You need very little cream and you need to massage into the areas where you have fine lines and wrinkles. Usually, around your mouth and eyes, across your forehead and between your brows. It is really smooth to apply and is very quickly absorbed.
The ingredient that makes it work is hyaluronic acid spheres, which will absorb water and hence give a plumper, less wrinkled and lined appearance to the upper layers of your skin.
Following the daily treatment, you must moisturise.
Now, the main point here is does it work? it is after all an extra product and there are other ways I can spend that tenner if it doesn't.
Well the answer I feel comes from a friend's comments on more than one occasion now, that my complexion is looking very good.
Someone got up and offered me a seat again at the weekend, but I console myself with the fact that I was carrying very heavy shopping. So I am not going to let that be the sign that my Fine Lift is not a success, because I am happy that it has made a diiference. It is one step on the ladder I am using to build to a newer model.
When I recently used the Advantage Card machine in my local Boots, a voucher came up for half price No7 Line Lift cream (£6.75 ish instead of the usual £13.00), and I thought that I would try it. I had previously used a No.7 product which supposedly lifted lines and reduced age spots, but as this was some years ago, when I went to find it again, I presume that it had been discontinued and replaced with this.
You get 20ml of line lift cream in a small plastic tube with a screw lid. It has a nozzle which is designed so that you can apply the cream directly to your wrinkle area.
The cream contains a line filling collagen booster which should leave the skin looking softer and smoother, aswell as improving the appearance of deeper wrinkles, with skin looking plumper and less lined in two weeks.
I have now been using this cream for about 3 weeks, once a day, after applying my serum, but before my moisturiser and cosmetics. The lady on the counter in Boots said that it was most useful for the area between your eyebrows, the lines on your forehead and around your lips and mouth.
The cream itself is relatively easy to apply as it is quite thick and comes out of the nozzle smoothly. In the time I have been using it, it has helped smooth out the smile lines at the side of my mouth and reduced the quite deep line across my forehead.
The area between my eyebrows which was not so much wrinkled, but appeared a little "saggy" has improved in appearance. In addition, I have found that if I apply it to the area above my top lip, it appears to make my lip look bigger giving me a lovely Angelina Jolie type pout!
On the whole these creams do not work miracles, as I have tried various different ones before. This does seem to make a difference, but it is worth bearing in mind that I started using this at the same time as using the No7 Protect and Perfect Intense Serum and Night Cream, and it could be a culmination of all three.
On the whole, if you can get it half price with the voucher, it is certainly worth giving it a try.
