“ Brand: Boots / Type: Facial Gel / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / Product line: Boots Skin Clear „
Why did I buy this?
As I've mentioned in some of my previous reviews, I am finding my skin quite problematic lately. I'm fairly certain that it's hormonal, but I wanted a quick solution to treat my blemishes. I did a little bit of research online, and quite a few people mentioned that this gel was very good. It was a toss up between this product and Freederm, and seeing as this was cheaper, I decided to give it a try.
What does it look like?
This gel comes in a small cardboard box with a slightly metallic finish, I think the packaging looks really good, and it definitely stood out on the shelf. The actually tube of product inside was surprisingly big for a gel of this nature. I was expecting it to be tiny, but I have a feeling that this tube will last me a long while. The tube actually contains 25ml of gel, so I think it's a real bargain.
What are it's claims?
The box states that this product will start to reduce the size of your spots in just 2 hours, and will reduce redness in just 4 hours. It also claims that it will not overly dry out your skin.
What did I think of it?
This is a very simple gel to apply. I have been using it for a couple of days now, and have found it to generally be very good. I first thoroughly cleansed my face before application to get rid of any make-up and dirt, then squeezed a small amount of product out of the tube, and applied a thin layer to my blemishes. The gel is clear, and doesn't have too much of a strong smell. I found that it did sting a little bit as I applied it, but it calmed down in no time. I also found that it did make my skin feel a little itchy after awhile, but it was bearable, and I just ignored this. This product had no detrimental effects on my skin, and I do have sensitive skin, so I was really pleased about that.
Most importantly, did it work?
I can't say that this reduced any redness, but it definitely reduced the size of my spots quite drastically! I applied it in the afternoon, and by the evening, I was definitely noticing a difference. I also applied the gel overnight, and by the morning, some of my spots were gone. I would advise applying this product overnight, rather than in the daytime, as it does leave a strange film on your skin. I didn't mind too much, as I wasn't going out, but it was definitely noticeable! I think it would be impossible to apply make-up over this product without it looking very flaky and weird. I feel that it did actually dry out my skin, so I've had to apply a little more moisturiser than usual, but to be honest, I was expecting it to have a drying effect anyway. All in all, I was extremely impressed - I wasn't expecting it to work so quickly! I definitely wouldn't purchase the more expensive brand in the future, as I really don't see the point in spending excessive amounts of money after trying this.
What did it cost?
This product is on special offer at the moment so it is super cheap! It costs just £2.55, so I'd recommend snapping it up quickly. It is only available from Boots store, and from the Boots website (although it is currently showing as out of stock). The normal price is £5.10, and even at this price, I would buy it again in the future, because you really do get a large amount of product for the cost. It was a real surprise to find a gel like this, that was actually effective, as I find that the more expensive brands don't often live up to their claims and hype.
I'd recommend this product to anyone that suffers from the occasional breakout. I don't know how effective it would be on serious acne, because I don't think this would really be useful as a preventative measure.
If you are looking for a gel that will reduce the size of your spots very quickly, then I'd urge you to give this a try!
