Over the years I've owned and used many male grooming products and whilst we gents aren't as well catered for as the ladies out there when it comes to the choices that are available I'm all for trying something new when I spot something that might appeal. I hadn't heard of the Bulldog brand before buying a number of products from their range, I was at the time looking for a new facial wash and spotted these on sale on Amazon - a pack of 2 containers of facial wash was being offered at less than half price at a little under £5.00 from over £10.00 and never one to miss a bargain I hastily placed an order.
This review is covering the Facial Wash from Bulldog though there are other products available including a facial scrub, conditioner, shower gel etc all available at reasonable prices both online and, as I noticed the other day, available instore at places like Tesco and Boots. My 2 pack of facial wash arrived quickly, was well packaged with each flip-top plastic bottle containing 175ml of product. It comes as shown in the above picture, a nicely non-fussy designed pack printed with all the information and detail you need to know; this is a parabene free facial wash, containing natural ingredients and essential oils, has no artificial colours and is unfragranced. It is certified 'Cruelty free' meaning it contains no animal ingredients and hasn't been tested on animals, it is suitable for vegans and has been vegetarian-society approved. Designed for male skin it is described as 'non-drying' and leaves skin feeling fresh and clean but does it live up to its claims? I soon found out.
Upon using the cleaner for the first time I noticed that it has quite a thick, gloopy consistency which was rather unexpected, it squeezes easily from the bottle, is a light orangey/yellow colour and, as claimed, doesn't have any noticeable aroma whatsoever. Combined with water this facial wash lathers up to give a thin coating of what reminded me of a generic soap bar though is not foamy and provides no suds like a shower gel might, it's thin consistency spreads across the skin well and provides an excellent clean that is easy to remove with fresh water and though doesn't have any sort of aroma to it does work very well and does clean exactly as it claims to.
I've been using mine daily for a little over a fortnight now and have noticed that my skin does look brighter, it's definitely cleaner and has not caused any sort of reaction that has left me with spots or irritations. It doesn't dry my skin out or leave it feeling tight after use and all in all I'm rather impressed with this facial wash from Bulldog. Due to its rather thick consistency it doesn't take a lot of the product to provide a good facial wash so I think it has good value for money in terms of the amount of uses a single bottle will provide and for me it's a premium product that carries a non-premium price tag. I've become quite the fan of Bulldog now and have purchased other products in the range, all of which have impressed me and all of which I would continue to buy in the future.
As mentioned at the start of this review, us blokes aren't exactly spoiled for choice when it comes to male grooming products and I'm glad to have found an alternative to the better known, bigger brands that are available. This facial wash from Bulldog is highly recommended by me, it does exactly what it claims to and it has now become my product of choice. The fact that you can still buy a 2 pack of this from amazon for less than a fiver makes it extremely good value for money I think and I've already bought some more for when my original bottle(s) run out. 5 stars as a rating from me, thanks for reading my review.
I have tried many face washes before and none seem to be able to combat the problem I have with spots - the problem being that in my late 20's I am still prone to them. I have used ones by Simple, Clearasil, St Ives and Nivea just to name a few. On our last trip to the supermarket I decided it was time to rethink my thinking behind choosing a face wash.
Instead of looking down the aisle I normally do (most are next to the make up and hair products), I checked the male toiletries section and next to the shaving things were a few different male face washes.
I didn't want a cheap product because I think that compromising on quality can be a bad thing sometimes (I remember one face wash bought from the pound shop that ended up in the bin!) so I decided to give this one a go - the packaging drew me in as well as its name (and now I can't help but get "Hey Bulldog" by the Beatles each time I read the tube!).
The price was £4.50, it comes in a nice clean looking white tube that contains 175ml of product. The front tells you some interesting info from the get-go - It is packed with 8 essential oils and green tea to gently cleanse your face of dirt and debris. There is also a shiny foil "stamp" that says it is made with natural ingredients.
I read the back in the supermarket and laughed when I read "How can you face your problem if your problem is your face?"
The back also draws to your attention that the product is Made in the UK, BUAV Approved and is a Good Shopping Guide Ethical Company. It is Vegetarian and Vegan approved as well.
Using the product for the first time - I used it after I had a shave and found it didn't sting my face or anything even though my skin was freshly shaven. The smell is quite unique and isn't like any other face wash I have tried before. The tea tree smell is noticeable but is mixed with other fragrances which makes it smell quite unique - certainly not like your token generic male toiletries that all smell the same.
I followed the directions and lathered it on wet skin and then rinsed off.
The next morning I thought there was a noticeable improvement in the appearance of my facial skin, any red areas had toned down significantly and my face still felt clean.
Although it is still early days and I have only used this product for around a week, I think it is doing its job. I only hope my face doesn't become immune to it or something so I have to buy another different product again!
I also checked out the website for this company after buying it and it has some useful information on there about the company and how it all started. It is also great that this product has been nominated for a "Product of the year" award.
I definitely recommend it for men who don't want the usual "man smell" products and want something natural, good for you and the environment.
