Burt's Bees Facial Cleanser - Radiance
I bought a mini travel set to take away with me travelling and this was one of the items in the kit. My little tube holds only 20 ml but the full sized version comes in a push pump plastic bottle and holds 175 ml and cost around £7.65 when I looked on Chemist direct but shop around as prices vary and if you have a Boots Advantage card sometimes Boots do three for 2 on these products in the Burt's Bees range and that may be better value.
I do like Burt's Bees products and their philosophy as well but wish some of their products were just a bit cheaper.
A LITTLE ABOUT BURT AND HIS BEES
This is an American company that started by selling home made products created in a shed at local craft fairs and it grew from there. Burt is a real man who kept bees and probably still does. He has an amazing beard and a bought himself a classic motor bike with his earnings and looks the part of a biker.
The company began in 1984, the year my son was born and at that time Roxanne Quimby and Burt Shavitz joined forces to create and sell candles made from the beeswax. At the time Burt's bees were producing honey which was his main business. At their first craft fair, they sold $200 worth, and by the end of the first year they had sold $20,000 worth of products. It all grew from those humble beginnings and today it sells products world wide.
2009 saw the company celebrating 25 years and have been voted the second greenest US brand. They produce products that are all 99% natural and well over half are 100% natural and that is a claim that cannot be made by many companies in the cosmetics/skin care world. They also take care to ensure that their packaging is recyclable and has the lowest environmental impact possible.
Finally this company also believes that they should share their success and give something back so that through The Greater Good Foundation, they donate at least 10% of all Web Site sales to their selected "well being" partners.
What I like about their products is that they are pretty well 100% natural and there are no Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates or Petrochemicals in any of the products made by Burt's Bees. They make a wide range of products now and have come a long way from their humble beginnings. They have lip balms, face creams, exfoliants and face washes as well as anti aging products, body creams and bath stuff. They even have a range aimed at men and one or babies so quite a range of products.
My only gripe is that they are quite expensive but I suppose with the fact that they are creating a natural product with none of the cheaper petroleum products in them is what we are paying for. I do often wonder if companies keep their products expensive so that they appeal to the snooty market though
This facial cleanser is one of a number of products in the Radiance range by Burt's Bees. The cleanser is 99% natural and can be used daily as it is so gentle. Although it is gentle is is also quite good at removing dirt, make up and excessive oil and deep cleaning my face.
The company blurb says
"Burt's Bees' Radiance Facial Cleanser removes dirt, oil and make-up, revealing a smooth and radiant complexion. A gentle plant-based cleansing complex plus jojoba beads and a fruit acid complex help encourage normal skin cell turnover. While royal jelly, one of nature's most nutritious substances, helps enhance skin's natural radiance. Your skin appears brighter and younger-looking, naturally."
I find this to be a good and effective product and like that it is 99% natural but I honestly cannot say it does any better job than many other face cleansers. It smells quite fruity and sweet with a hint of honey but not overwhelming at all. I find that it comes out of the tube really easily and it a sort of clear rather thick and slightly slimy gel.. It doesn't get a real later but does sort of change consistency as you add water to it. I do find it does a good job of cleansing my face and is very gentle. I would have no fears of this causing me or anyone else any adverse skin reaction.
My face feels clean and fresh but not at all tight and uncomfortable. I can't say it looks particularly radiant but maybe I have left it a bit late for that. My skin does feel nice and soft and well moisturised and not in the least tight, I do still tone and moisturise though as I do with all cleansers I use.
As I am an older person I don't have major oily skin issues but do still have a bit of a T zone so I do have to be vigilant about cleansing properly . My skin is however quite sensitive and I am a bit beyond the cleansers that are created for teen skins. This I feel would suit almost any skin as it is gentle and doesn't strip all the natural oils yet does get rid of any excess oiliness .
The thing I like about this is that it is a plant-based cleansing product and the little gentle jojoba beads combined with the fruit acid complex work together to encourage normal skin cell turnover. I love the fact that Burt's Bees have contributed their lovely royal jelly, as this is known to be one of natures most nutritious substances. Did you know that royal jelly is made of nectar, pollen, flower parts, vitamins, minerals, bee hormones and other natural ingredients collected by busy bees and it really is the food of the Queen bee. This royal jelly is supposed to enhance the skin's natural radiance, now I can't say I noticed that but maybe if you use it regularly and don't leave it too late then it might be more effective.
HOW TO USE
Well it isn't rocket science but the way I use this is ; I squeeze a little onto my finger tips and apply it to my already dampened face. If I am just washing my face I tend to massage it in with my fingers and splash off the product with water from the tap over a basin but if I am removing the last traces of make up I use a face cloth to remove the final product off my face as this ensures all the dirt and product is off. I then splash my face with cold water to close my pores, then use toner and moisturiser as normal.
Yes it isn't a bad price really for a natural and gentle cleanser from a company that uses 99% natural ingredients and doesn't test on animals. There are cheaper cleansers but they may be full of chemicals so it depends on how you feel about those. This does work as a cleanser. It smells pleasant but it doesn't make my skin radiant youthfulness not do I feel like a queen bee after using it. It does the job and isn't a silly price compared to some similar 'posher' products.
Thanks for reading. This review may be posted on other sites under my same user name.
