BURT'S BEES RADIANCE HEALTHY GLOW MINI SET
I bought this fromAmazon prior to going away as I thought it would have mini versions of all the things I might need while away and also be a good chance to test the products and see which I liked enough to buy the full sized version. I do like Burt's Bees stuff but the rather high price tag generally puts me off so I didn't want to go and buy full sized pots in case I didn't like them
A LITTLE ABOUT BURT AND HIS BEES
This is an American company that started by selling home made products created in a shed at local craft fairs and it grew from there. Burt is a real man who kept bees and probably still does. He has an amazing beard and a bought himself a classic motor bike with his earnings and looks the part of a biker.
The company began in 1984, the year my son was born and at that time Roxanne Quimby and Burt Shavitz joined forces to create and sell candles made from the beeswax. At the time Burt's bees were producing honey which was his main business. At their first craft fair, they sold $200 worth, and by the end of the first year they had sold $20,000 worth of products. It all grew from those humble beginnings and today it sells products world wide.
2009 saw the company celebrating 25 years and have been voted the second greenest US brand. They produce products that are all 99% natural and well over half are 100% natural and that is a claim that cannot be made by many companies in the cosmetics/skin care world. They also take care to ensure that their packaging is recyclable and has the lowest environmental impact possible.
Finally this company also believes that they should share their success and give something back so that through The Greater Good Foundation, they donate at least 10% of all Web Site sales to their selected "well being" partners.
What I like about their products is that they are pretty well 100% natural and there are no Sulfates, Parabens, Phthalates or Petrochemicals in any of the products made by Burt's Bees. They make a wide range of products now and have come a long way from their humble beginnings. They have lip balms, face creams, exfoliants and face washes as well as anti aging products, body creams and bath stuff. They even have a range aimed at men and one or babies so quite a range of products.
My only gripe is that they are quite expensive but I suppose with the fact that they are creating a natural product with none of the cheaper petroleum products in them is what we are paying for. I do often wonder if companies keep their products expensive so that they appeal to the snooty market though!
What did I get in the little box? Well considering that packaging is supposed to be recyclable and minimal I did find this had quite a lot of packing. It was a cardboard outer with plastic window and inside the products were set into a pre formed plastic tray so that they stayed looking nice as this is one of their gift sets. Personally I thought the packaging was hard to get into and a little excessive but gift sets often are a little over packaged so I'll let that one pass.
There were five mini products in the pack and I paid £9.35 for this from Amazon which is a lot cheaper than Boots which sells this for about £14 which is a lot of money for what you get. This might be okay to buy from Boots when they have their three for two offers but not otherwise I would say. I think it is still quite expensive at £9.35 but I guess it works out at just under £2 a product so just about okay I suppose.
The products in the kit are:
Radiance Face Cleanser 0.75 oz
Radiance Day Lotion 0.25 fl oz
Radiance Night Cream 0.25 oz
Radiance Eye Cream 0.14 oz
Radiance Lip Shimmer 0.09 oz

RADIANCE FACE CLEANSER:
I'll take each product individually and so I'll start with the Radiance Face Cleanser which comes in a plastic tube and this holds a smallish amount of 0.75 oz. I thought this was an okay product but not one I would rush to re purchase. It smelled quite fruity and came out of the tube very easy. It had a sort of slightly thick slimy feel to it and it washed my face okay. I had no adverse reaction after using it but neither did my face feel specially great and radiant either. Now considering the full sized bottle is around £10 for a bottle of about 100ml by the looks of it I would expect it to do a bit more.
The company blurb says
"Burt's Bees' Radiance Facial Cleanser removes dirt, oil and make-up, revealing a smooth and radiant complexion. A gentle plant-based cleansing complex plus jojoba beads and a fruit acid complex help encourage normal skin cell turnover. While royal jelly, one of nature's most nutritious substances, helps enhance skin's natural radiance. Your skin appears brighter and younger-looking, naturally."
Well okay it was a nice enough product but certainly didn't make me alook any younger so I won't be rushing to buy that one again.
RADIANCE DAY LOTION
This came in a tiny tube and I got a measly 0.25 fl oz of the product which gave me about five days use which is not a lot. I was pleased to see that this gave me a factor 15 sun protection as we were in Madagascar when I was using this. The sun protection comes from Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide which act to reflect the sun's harmful UVA/UVB rays. This is one of the products that is only 98.2% natural so I am not sure if the sun protection ingredients are the not natural ones. The main beneficial ingredients in Royal jelly from bees and is known to be good for the skin.
The product smelled quite pleasant and I liked it. It was very thin as it was a lotion not a cream but it soaked in quickly and felt nice on my face. I had not nasty reaction after using this and it did keep me from burning in the mild sun when we were walking around. I wouldn't use this is I was going out in strong sun, sunbathing or going out on a boat as it is only factor 15 protection.
I like this and liked how it felt on my face; I just wish the tube had been bigger. I have had bigger samples free from companies and I paid good money for this! I am not sure I would pay nearly £20 for the full sized product though as you only get 2fl oz in the full sized tube.
RADIANCE NIGHT CREAM
This came in a small screw top tub and held a tiny 0.25 oz. I did like this and if felt lovely and nourishing on my face. It smelled lovely and subtly sweet and mildly fruity with a hint of rosemary too and once again I had no unpleasant reaction after using this. Sadly this only gave me about five night's worth of cream despite me being quite frugal.
I sadly didn't look radiant in the mornings after using this, as was promised. Perhaps you have to buy the full tub to get the radiant look! The full sized product is about £20 and you get a small tub of about 2oz which is no bargain in my view. So although I did like this I feel that I can buy just as nice products for less that do the same if not a better job.
RADIANCE EYE CREAM
Once again I got a tiny tube (think mean sample) of only 0.14 oz. It really was a tiny amount and I struggled to get five uses from this one. I loved this and have been back to buy the larger tub but it was no longer on the three for two deal so I will wait as it is once again about £20 for the full sized tub which is 14gweight but I can't find how much you get of the product in oz. Burt's Bees are really bad for not saying how much you get which is probably because you get such a tiny amount.
This comes in a jar in the full sized product but i had a tiny tube. The cream was not greasy and went on really easily and soaked in quickly. I can't say my eyes looked especially radiant as we were doing a lot of animal treks, up early and sleeping in rather rough places so I don't think I looked my best at any time. This obviously was not strong enough to combat all that but I did like it and might well purchase the full sized product if I find I am getting a decent amount and can but it on the special three for two offer.
RADIANCE LIP SHIMMER
This was my very favourite product in the set and I have bought the full sized version. In fact I like it so much that I bought three for two and gave two to my nieces when Ii went down to see them.
This seemed to be not a lot smaller than the full sized products that I bought and it felt just lovely on my lips. It protected them as we were out in the sun a lot and it was quite dry at times so it stopped my lips getting dry and sore and kept them moist the entire trio and I still have some left. The ones I bought were slightly different colours but I am not sure that the colours showed up much and I use both this original non coloured one as well as my coloured one equally now.
There is a lovely fresh tingly minty feel when you apply the balm which last well on the lips for quite some time. My husband complained that the water bottle we were sharing tasted of mint but i quite liked it. In my view this is well worth the money although at £5 a stick it isn't cheap when I got three for teo it worked out better and they do seem to last well. They also didn't seem to melt in the heat too much either as some lip balms do.
WAS I RADIANTLY HAPPY?
I was interested to try the different products and this is a good way of trying a few at a reasonable price. Look around though as prices do vary. I am not sure I would buy this gift set again as I felt the amount of each product was so small and really quite mean but I think their full sized products are not generous either. Whilst I applaud the company ethics and admire what they have achieved I do think they are expensive and will only buy their products when they are on offer.
