Anyone else who suffers from Sinus problems will know how painful they can be.
The pounding in your head, along with the pressure and congestion around the face can become unbearable!
Introducing....the Carmen Beauty Facial Sauna!
I originally purchased this product, not for my Sinus's but as a way to cleanse and unclog my pores, for which the item is actually intended! I'd seen my friends use them and they looked pretty effective. They're simple enough to use too.
Before placing the plastic face rest ontop of the device, the round, flat plastic piece removes easily and the small inlet underneath needs to be filled with water (using the measured cup that the product comes with), the in-box instructions are far more comprehendible than mine, and once the settings are adjusted on the digital display to the front, you're set to go!
Tie your hair up, ensuring none hangs infront of your face. Rest your face down on the appliance, so that you're looking down into the tube, and let the steam do the rest!
Within seconds I could actually feel my pores opening, it was a soothing experience and after 5 minutes my face felt refreshed and clean. The grime and make up residue that was blocking my face had been steamed away! To top it off, the sinus headache I'd been battling all morning was slowly ebbing!! The steam seemed to help drain my sinus's and I was left pain free and fresh faced!!!
Its now part of my schedule atleast once a week, (or more if a sinus headache rears it's ugly head!) and it's extremely effective in both areas!
Currently priced at £24.99 on Amazon, it's well worth the money for not only the pain relief it provides, but also the cleansing elements it provides!!
Comes highly recommended!! Money well spent.
When I was a teenager I owned a facial sauna. That was a long time ago and I don't know what happened to it. Last year, while shopping in Boots, I was having a look at the electrical goods as a matter of interest. I wasn't really planning to buy anything but when I caught sight of the Carmen facial sauna, I thought it might be a good idea to purchase this. I didn't research as this was an impulse buy and I knew roughly how these things work. I thought Carmen to be quite a good make, so I went ahead and bought this. At least I earned a lot of Advantage points!
I can't remember how much exactly I paid but it is now on sale at Boots for £22.99, and I know it was on sale for around this price.
What drew me to this purchase was the fact that my husband and daughter both suffer with asthma. I thought it doubtful (and was right!) that hubby would bother with this, but thought it'll be there if he wants to try it.
As for my daughter who was sixteen at the time, I thought now, after years of absences from school and chest infections brought on because of the asthma, she seems to be coping better and lessening her medication, so this might be a gentle and natural help to alleviate the milder asthma symptoms.
Also as she is a serious singer, I thought the steam might help keep her voice working well. I had heard that singers often use steam to keep their voices in tip top condition.
And, as a teenager she has that unpredictable skin so I thought, if only used for her this would be worth buying.
And, just so you know that I don't buy things lightly, I had my own reason for buying this too, that being my sinuses which are always blocked, causing headaches and stuffiness.
So on arriving home with my new purchase I tried it out. It's very simple but this, unlike my last facial sauna, has a digital timer. This isn't really necessary, in my opinion but, I suppose if someone young was using this then they could rely on knowing when they've had long enough rather than getting roasted! It's easy enough to set and really you only need a few minutes.
Before use you should find somewher comfortable to sit so you can relax and enjoy the effects of the sauna. Bring along the water in the container provided and it's easy to see the level needed. Switch on and choose which heat setting you require. I advise, on first using as a facial sauna you try the mist setting first and see how you get on. You can move your face away, or nearer to the machine, depending on your persoanal comfort. The usual setting for cleansing of skin would be the higher steam setting. The sauna cleans gently and, although your face may be red after use, this will soon subside and skin will feel clean and smooth.
If you wish to use this to clear nasal passages then the mist is ideal. I bought menthol crystals from my local chemist. These are sold at a minimal cost. You need to put a couple of these (go easy as they are very stong once the hot water dissolves them) into the water well, and remember NOT to put your face right into the plastic sauna device, but breathe a little away. You must keep your eyes closed as these crystals can really sting. Of course, you may wish only to use steam without additives but the crystals are great if you have a cold.
Does it work?
It's definitely good for easing nasal congestion if you're suffering with a cold, but I don't find the relief is very long lived. As for clearing sinuses generally, well it works, but only if you use regularly and I've never really done this. I'm quite impatient and can't be bothered to fill it, and sit there while it takes effect. Although, in all honesty, it isn't much bother. The same really goes for cleansing and purefying the skin. Regular use , I think would be beneficial if you have somewhere to leave this, so that you see it and remember to include it in a daily or almost daily, routine.
It's easy to clean. I use warm soapy water to clean the plastic removable parts and a very ocassional wipe of the machines's body is all that's needed.
