“ Brand: Chanel / Texture: Cream / Type: Moisturiser / Texture: Serum / What it does: Hydrates, „
As I began to get nearer to my thirties I decided that it was a good time to finally begin a good skin care regime. My favourite make up brand by far is Chanel so despite the price tag on this item I decided that I should give it a try as up to this date I have never actually came across a Chanel product that has dissapointed me.
On initial inspection, the bottle was pleasing to the eye. It has the typical branded black lid with the interlocked C's but the bottle itself almost looks frosted with a beautiful aqua colour. As I picked up the bottle I found it to feel very soft and almost leathery and smooth. Ok, so I'm not going to wear the bottle but still first impressions and all that. The next test was to try a little on the back of my hand. The pump applicator was easy to use and gives out a small gentle amount. I liked this as I was in control of the pump and there was not an option to pump out too much which cause wastage and wastage is not required with a bottle of serum of this price!
The serum was a beautiful turquoise colour which had a very fragrant but subtle smell to it. It was a fresh smell with the sophisticated scent that could arise from being associated with the Chanel cosmetic brand. When I ran it accross my hand, it was absorbed quickly by my skin, it felt soft, smooth and silky with no oily residue and no shine afterwards. That was it. I had fallen in love with this product. I happily handed over my cash which I do believe to have been around £28 back then (around 2004) and was presented my new purchase in its lovely shiny black bag and I couldn't wait to get home to try it on my face.
When I returned home I instantly whipped my product out of my bag. I cleansed and that was it I was off. So, earlier on I had mentioned that the serum had a lovely scent to it. This was the point in which I was becoming a little nervous. I do not usually use scented products on my face as my skin is very sensitive there. I had now purchased this item of loveliness so decided to bite the bullet and give it a try. I was impressed how little I needed to use to obtain good coverage on my face. As with the test on my hand, the product absorbed well. No intense rubbing needed just a little soft blending to work it into the skin and there, my face was soft, smooth and silky with a lovely matt, non oily finish and best of all no reaction to it so far. In fact, there was to be no reaction to the scent at all. I had finally found a fragranced product which made my skin smell fresh and besutiful without having to have the burning sensation or red blotches that usually accompanies scented products on my face.
Now, I have had times in the last few years when I have opted for another item to find out if I can do this cheaply. I have opted for the complete other end of the spectrum with the Body shop vitamin E serum whcih I found to have a not so pleasant smell and was like applying water in comparison to this product. The other product is an Estee Lauder serum. Now the Estee Lauder serum is £15 or so cheaper than the Chanel and is quite lovely, however, although fragranced, the fragrance is not as appealing as the Chanel serum nor is it as thick in volume, nor does the bottle last as long. The Estee Lauder lasted me three months. My Chanel serum can last me six months.
Today, this product will set you back around £51 for a 30ml airless bottle. Chanel state that this Hydramax active serum is 'hydration at the source' and is a 'silky smooth gel, in the colours of the South seas, restores softness, suppleness and comfort to the skin'.
To conclude, I have now been using this product for around six years and I have never yet found another serum to rival it. Yes, the price is costly, however, compared to its counter parts I do find that given the length of time that it lasts that in the long run, if you were to add the costs together it may well be more economical than some of the other brands.
If you are looking for a flawless and smooth finish which really does hydrate your skin then this is the one ladies and I love it!
If you could turn Sanatogen multi-vitamins into a serum for your face, Chanel Hydramax would come pretty close to that. I LOVE Chanel products. It is a prestige brand that I really trust. (I have been using Chanel products from the age of 13). There is something quite magical about entering the doors with the interlocking double C logo. The way Audrey Hepburn felt about the famed jewellery store in Breakfast At Tiffanys is the same way I feel about Chanel?Nothing bad could ever happen to you there. I was at one of my regular fortnightly appointments at the Chanel counter buying No.5 perfume and body crème, when my consultant suggested that I have a skin typing. She revealed a computer that looked rather like a colour wheel. On it was several questions regarding my skin (sensitivity, hydration level, etc.). She pressed all of the appropriate buttons and at the end the products that were recommended for me lit up. (You can try a DIY version at www.chanel.com. Just go to the skin care section and click on YOUR DIAGNOSIS. It literally takes two minutes.) Hydra Serum was on of the products recommended for me. I instantly forked over the $75 and went home as fast as I could to try it out. It comes in a sleek pump bottle so you dispense as much as you need. This is my preferred mode of extracting a product as it prevents bacteria from entering the bottle and allows the product to last longer. The bottle is clear and you can see the blue liquid inside. The pump and the lid are black (with that familiar interlocking C logo). Once you dispense an amount of the product you will discover that it is a light blue serum. For those of you unfamiliar with serums, they are lighter and more fluid than facial moisturising lotions. Serums absorb into the skin easily and this one is no exception. It is lightly scented (I personally love the smell, but each to their own). As I mentioned previously, the product is packed with vitamins and anti-o
xidants including B5, F, and E. This is an effective defence shield from those pesky free radicals that we are all trying to avoid! This product is suitable for ALL SKIN TYPES. (Hurrah!) If you have oily skin, just use it alone. If your skin has a tendency to be drier, use it under your regular moisturiser. My skin has a high tendency to break out. As this product is light an oil-free I have not encountered any problems. After only four weeks of use, my skin looked much better and was as soft as a baby?s bottom. I have now been using it for over a year and my skin has never looked better. My mother has very dry and sensitive skin. She also loves this product. She?s noticed a significant increase in the hydration of her skin. I strongly recommend this product. I think skin care is a very important investment, but some may find this quite pricey. At this point, let me say that a little bit goes a long way and that it is really good value for money. Try asking for a sample next time you go shopping, I am sure that you will love it.
