Clarins Daily Energizer Wake Up Booster
Advantages: smells gorgeous, very moisturising, good value considering this is clarins
Disadvantages: maybe more than some would like to pay
I am quite a fan of what I guess you would call premium branded beauty products, with my preference generally leaning towards Clinique. I was recently browsing my local independent department store ( I really think I should go there less, I seem to spend too much money there!) when this new daily energizer range caught my eye. I decided to have a better look! I wandered on over to the clarins counter. This new range clearly had pride of place, as new products always do and a friendly, helpful clarins consultant was ready to help me.
The daily energizer range
This is a fairly new range by clarins that is specifically targeted at 18 to late 20's skin targeting radiance. There are a few products in the range which are:
* Cleansing gel - 75 ml at £10.50
* Wake-up booster - 125 ml at £15
* Moisturiser (adapted to 3 skin types) - cream/ cream - gel/ lotion with spf 15 - 30ml at £19.50
The wake up booster comes in a plastic bottle typical of usual clarins toners, the plastic almost feels velvety - it feels very luxurious. The lid is white, with a rim of gold - which again I think looks quite expensive - which is easily screwed on or off. The hole is a decent size that allows you to have a good amount of control over how much product you wish to use. The bottle is transparent which I love as you can see clearly how much of the lovely orange liquid you have left. The product name and brand is clearly stated on the front of the bottle in a red font, with instructions on the back, along with the information that this should be used within 18 months of opening - personally I can't see it lasting that long with me!
So what exactly is the wake up booster?
The wake up booster (as described by the clarins consultant) is a kind of cross between a serum and a toner. It is to be used after cleansing (with the cleansing gel in the range of course) and then followed by the moisturiser. On the clarins website it is suggested that the wake up booster 'Recharges skin energy and revives a healthy glow. Its moisturizing action ensures a soft, smooth look while its toning benefits refresh and provides a pleasant feeling of well-being. The complexion is radiant and luminous.'
What's in it?
Green coffee extract, redcurrant and white tea extracts are all in this little beauty. When I read that these extracts were in it my immediate thoughts were that it was not going to smell pleasant at all - how wrong I was! It smells absolutely gorgeous. As much as I love my Clinique products, I do sometimes wish they would have some kind of fragrance. The way I would describe the fragrance is fruity, but delicate - definitely not too overpowering in my opinion. These extracts have some wonderful effects on skin:
Green coffee - recharges skin vitality
Redcurrant - moisturizes and softens
White tea - protects against free radicals and prevents environmental damage.
All of these together make for a lovely combination on the skin!
On the back of the bottle, instructions of application can be found - 'apply to clean skin using light tapping movements, with hands or a cotton pad if preferred. Follow with your regular day cream'. I apply this after using the cleansing gel in the range, and have applied in different ways. I have tried to apply it using my fingertips but I find that the liquid is a little too runny to use in this way - although you would waste less product this way. I also found this method left me slightly shiny and I then felt the need to wear foundation to cover the shininess. I prefer to apply with a cotton pad which I feel applies just the right amount of product to my skin without it being oversaturated. This feels nice and cool and refreshing on my skin, and I also feel that it really helps to moisturize my skin - I almost don't feel the need to apply a moisturizer afterwards. I really do feel that it helps to give my skin a nice glow and I do feel slightly energized - although I think this is more because of the product being quite cool more than the actual ingredients.
Value for money
To some I guess that £15 for what is basically a toner with some added serum-like effects is expensive, but I think it is brilliant value. The amount you use, even when using twice a day is minimal and I think that 125ml is a very substantial size. If you prefer you could just use in the morning and then it would last even longer.
Would I recommend?
Definitely! I absolutely love this product. Of the whole of the daily energizer range, this is by far my favourite and is the one I would say makes the most difference to my skin. Although it is targeted towards young skin, I see no reason why it would not be suitable and beneficial to mature skins, although of course this doesn't promise any anti-aging effects.
* Great value for money
* Smells gorgeous
* Does what it claims
* Lasts for a very long time
* Although it is very good value - it is still fairly expensive compared to some other brands (although I think it is totally worth it!)
* Can take a while to absorb into my skin ( I find even the cleansing gel is quite moisturizing on its own)
* Wastes some product if you use cotton balls.
thanks for taking the time to read
