I am not normally a lover of Clarins, simply because they don't have an anti-animal-testing policy. However, when I got given a small sized tube of this morning moisturiser for free I decided to give it a go to see what all the fuss is about.
Actually I was rather pleasantly surprised at what is a nice product.
It is certainly a daytime cream as it is a lighter cream. I found it absorbed immediately very easily and left a very smooth feeling on my skin. I am usually wary of applying a new cream just under my eyes as my skin can be very sensitive in this area. Indeed, after a few minutes of applying the cream to this area I was feeling a slightly stinging sensation there so made sure not to use it there again. However, this does happen with quite a few moisturisers so I am quite used to applying them to the rest of my face and just using an eye cream for under my eyes.
Disappointingly, there is no sunscreen within this cream, which is something I prefer to have if possible in a daytime moisturiser. So on a hot day I need to apply sun cream over the top of this. However, it does score well in warm weather as I do find a lot of moisturisers will make my face sweat in the heat of the day, but this one didn't.
The product contains vitamins and minerals (including vitamins A, B, C, E and K) and claims to 'wake up dull skin' with its many fruit and plant extracts. These include kiwi, papaya, pineapple, orange, sesame, peach and cashew. Sounds like quite a nice fruit salad in fact! I would expect it to smell fresh and fruity but in fact I think it just smells of a bland cream. Not unpleasant at all, just a very bog standard 'cream' type of smell which is almost impossible to describe. Think of an unscented cream (which invariably smells of something) and you will be closest to what this is like. So I find it to be completely inoffensive, but the scent does not help towards the 'wake up' claim.
In fact, I'm not sure what the 'waking up the skin' is all about. This is a very nice, good quality, daytime moisturiser that applies easily, absorbs easily, softens and smooths the skin, and lasts well throughout the day. Later in the day my skin still feels smooth and soft especially as compared to when I have used some other moisturisers with which a few hours later I can't really feel that I have applied them at all.
Due to the lightness of this cream, I did not find that it gave me spots or greasy skin over time, and I still remain impressed with its moisturising ability when you consider that it isn't thick and rich.
Having done a little research online, it looks as if Clarins have slightly updated this product and rebranded it as........ wait for it....... 'Daily Energizer Cream' which, having read the ingredients and claims, looks to be a very similar product. This retails for around £30 for 30 ml. Wow! Another reason that I would never buy this for myself, despite it clearly being a very good quality moisturiser.
I will give this 4 out of 5 stars, the reasons for losing that one star being that
a) this company still test on animals and it's time they stopped,
b) the lack of SPF which is very useful in a daytime cream,
c) the fact that in my opinion there is nothing more energising about this than any other moisturiser, and
d) the price!
Apart from those things I have to admit that despite my reservations about Clarins, this is an excellent daily moisturiser.

What it is
This is an energizing morning cream (facial moisturiser) made by Clarins. It claims to give you instant radiance, "a true beauty booster" and "the perfect moisturiser for dull, tired, lacklustre skin.
The plastic bottle has a special "airless design" to protect the ingredients from air and light. The bottle has a screw top lid which then reveals a smooth surface with a small circle in the centre. You press the top of the bottle and a small amount of cream is released around the centre circle. On the first time you use the cream you have to press several times but after this you only require a small press. Although this is a great way to protect the cream from going off or getting dirty or contaminated from dust, dirt etc. it does mean if you dispense too much you cant put it back in the bottle. Having said this though I have never had this problem with the cream.
The cream is made from plant extracts with vitamins and minerals. It contains the Vitamins A, B, C, E and K and the minerals zinc, magnesium, manganese and calcium. Plant extracts include cashew nut (never seen that before in a cream only in a Chinese dish along with chicken!), peach, orange, kiwi, pineapple, papaya, sesame, hops and sage. It also contains Vitacreatine which according to Clarins is a natural energising complex exclusive to Clarins (none the wiser, no neither am I, sounds impressive though!). The ingredients do give the impression of quality natural ingredients.
How to Use
After dispensing a small amount of cream into your hands you should then pat it onto your clean face and neck using your hands to press the cream in. Clarins advise you not to rub the product into your skin as this can stretch the skin. The cream is a thick white cream and absorbs quickly into your skin. There is no greasiness which you can get with some moisturisers.
It smells of quality (if that's a smell!). It is the best smelling moisturiser I have used, you can smell the fresh plants and flowers and it just wants to make me want to put it on my skin. I keep opening the lid just now as I write this and just think "Mmmm" it really does smell good.
There is nearly always a downside and with Clarins that is usually the cost. Clarins products certainly cant be classed as being cheap. My bottle which is 50ml cost me £32 from my Department Store. It is a lot more expensive than some but not as dear as others and I think it is worth every penny, I do love using it and enjoy the luxurious feel of it on my skin.
Before using this moisturiser my skin was going through a very dry stage. I have combination skin which means I have dry and oily patches. I tend to have a dry, flaky forehead but can get greasy skin around the nose and chin with occasional spots. I felt that my current moisturiser wasn't giving me enough moisturising on the dry spots so I went along to the Clarins counter to ask their advice.
The Clarins woman said that although my current moisturiser was probably right for my skin before as it was now drier and with winter well on its way I probably would benefit from a little "pick me up" for my skin. She recommended the Energizing Moisturising Cream to moisturise, replenish and give my skin a little boost then I could go back to using my ordinary cream after I had finished this one.
I have now been using the cream for around 6 weeks, I use it only in the morning and have another product for night time. The bottle still feels quite full although (and this is another downside) you can't see into the bottle because of the design so its hard to know when you are running low.
My skin has been improving and my forehead no longer has any dry flaky skin even though we are in to Mid December and the weather is getting colder. My skin feels smoother and more hydrated.
I love using the cream. After applying it my skin feels softer, plumper and I do feel it gives a little more radiance. I think its worth the money and I will continue to use it and enjoy it.
For those who aren't familiar with Clarins products they are available in most department stores and larger Boots. If you go to the Clarins counter and ask they will often give you a free small trial sample of the product which is very useful especially if you have sensitive skin and want to be sure it is the product for you before you part with your money.
I have split the opinion into sections so as you don't have to listen to my inane waffling if you just want a product review...;) Well, you all know what I'm like! ~ The Story ~ Or 'How I came across this product' You must all know what a Clarins lover I am by now, so I'll save you the spiel! to cut a longer story short, I was given a sample of Eclat du jour (Energising Morning Cream) and I added it to the pile of samples in my bottom drawer. That's the thing about samples isn't it? You LOVE getting them but you never use them! However, one day, horror of all horrors, my Clarins Hydration-Plus Moisture Lotion ran out! Not a squirt left in the pump action bottle! I had two options, at least I thought I did: 1) Go dry skinned all day (very bad idea) 2) Steal some from missblueeyedflatmate (probably Nivea Q10 which I hate) ...then I remembered the sample pile. 'There must be some moisturiser in here', I thought as I discarded fake tan, shimmering after-sun, leg soothing gel, miracle toner and then I found it. A tiny tube of Energising Morning Cream. Brilliant! As I first applied it I was really overcome by the scent. It wasn't strong by any means, but very citrus-full and quite refreshing. However, I decided it was a little heavy for summer use. This is another of my funny quirks! I have a completely separate skincare routine depending on the season...;) So, a visit to Boots and I was one tube of Hydration-Plus Moisture Lotion and several Advantage Card Points richer. Some time later this tube was in danger of running out again. Don't you just hate it when that happens? Anyway, I decided to try and get by on my sample pile until my holiday, as Clarins products are much cheaper in the rest of Europe than over here. So sure enough, I arrived In a 'Perfumerie' close to my temporary residence in San Antonio, Ibiza. Faster than a sp
eeding Clio, I arrived at the Clarins area. I say area because it wasn't really a counter, just a section of the shelving. Quickly I scanned the products, and then again just in case I had missed it the first time, but no! It wasn't there! No Hydration-Plus Moisture Lotion! I summoned the assistant who merely shook her head at my request. What was I to do? I was considering trying another shop when I saw the special offer on Energising Morning Cream. Only 4,500 pesetas for a 50ml pot. Why, that's only around £18! And I quite liked it as I recall! Ok, sold! ~ The Product ~ The first outstanding part of this product is the package. Cunningly disguised as a pot, it actually has a clever pump action device hidden inside. You unscrew the lid and are faced with a plastic cover with a small hole in the middle. Gently (and I mean gently, you don't want moisturiser all over the ceiling!) push the cover down, and a small amount of moisturiser appears in the centre of the lid! Cool! The main selling point of the product is its 'energising' properties. Jam-packed full of vitamins, trace elements and minerals (Zinc, Manganese, Magnesium, Calcium), the moisturiser is designed to 'wake up' your skin in the morning. Apparently when your body processes the vitamins and minerals that you consume each day, your skin in the last port of call to receive the benefits. Hence, those angels at Clarins developed this product so you can feed vitamins straight to your skin in addition to those you intake in your diet. Bless them! And look at what other crazy ingredients they packed in there: * Cashew (moisturises, nourishes, anti-free radical, protects) * Pineapple (moisturises, energises, anti-free radical, protects, drains, tones, purifies) * Hops (astringent, purifies, stimulates, tones) * Jojoba (nourishes, moisturises, anti-free radical) * Kiwi fruit (emollient, anti-free radical, moistur
ises, protects) * Horse Chestnut tree (decongests, calms, filters, drains) * Olive (softening, soothing, repairing, toning, firming) * Orange (softening, calming, anti-free radical) * Papaya (revitalising, anti-free radical, draining, decongesting, softening) * Peach (moisturises, tones, nourishes) * Sage (firms, tones, stimulates, astringent, deodorises (your face??!!)) * Sesame (anti-free radical, moisturises, nourishes, restores) (Above information from the Clarins website again) It also contains Clarins renowned anti-pollution complex, which has been incorporated into their products for 10 years now. As Clarins say, "This complex offers your skin double protection: "passive" protection by isolating and neutralising aggressive substances and "active" protection by reinforcing the skin's natural defence potential against free radicals." (Thanks to the Clarins website) As if all that wasn't enough it also claims to minimise lines and wrinkles, protect skin from the harmful effects of the environment, facilitates smooth make-up application and promotes longer-lasting wear and of course, moisturise your skin! It's a regular little miracle worker in a tub! ~ The Road Test ~ So is it all true? Well, I have only been using the product for a couple of weeks, and obviously I didn't have any lines or wrinkles to reduce...;) but I can say that it truly does make your skin feel alive in the morning. It applies and is absorbed easily, although as I mentioned earlier I think it is a little thick for summertime use. I do prefer a light lotion in the summer but as cream go, this is a particularly light one. Does that make any sense? I guess you would have to have a moisturiser obsession like min to appreciate that description! Also, as I mentioned earlier, the scent of the product is wonderful. It is a very invigorating citrus smell, which although
it is hypnotic, isn't overpowering. It may however make it unsuitable for sensitive skin. Also the dispenser tub helps you get just the right amount of cream which is nice. I suppose the cream is expensive but this container should help you to get the most out of the product. ~ The Conclusion ~ Love it! Now go and buy it! ~ The update ~ This product ran out yesterday after lasting me a whole 4 months! I really think that makes it worth the cost. The only downside was that it ran out without warning! Having said that I'll be straight to Boots for some more...;)
What a wonderful product. It is a light cream best used in the morning, it has a lovely fresh plant smell as all Clarins Products are made from some kind of plant, it is a thin cream that does not need a large amount of application, it spreads on the face very nicely. Use it in the morning after you have had a wash and I felt instantly better, my skin felt awake and refreshed, also I felt like a had more of a glow to my face
I bought this moisturiser on the recommendation from a friend that it really wakes your skin up especially after a heavy night out. It's an ingenious tub of cream in that you screw off the top cap and press down on the lid of the cream and the moisturiser comes up through a hole in the middle, this is so that the nutrients and vitamins do not get exposed to light and their potency diminishes. This is a very light moisturiser (ideal for my combination skin) and it does not clog the pores and cause spots (I have an oily T-Zone). It sinks into the skin straight away and it does give you a fresh faced appearance although I would not say it is miraculous (do not expect miracles here). The cream smells fresh and is really nice to use.
Looking for a new moisturiser, I was recommended to try this one by the Clarins Consultant who was doing my facial. I made sure that she knew I have skin which tends to be sensitive, and was assured that this was a suitable product. Sadly this is not a product which my skin enjoyed, and I found that it brought me out in spots <sigh> Thankfully the facial moisturiser I've settled with is cheaper than this one! (Virgin Vie Face Defence) To give Clarins their due, they did refund my money, albeit a little unhappily. I've mentioned this in a previous Clarins opinion, but for those who haven't read it and don't yet know - Clarins give you a facial using their products at a cost of only £10 which is redeemable against their products.......definitely worth doing (you can do this once every 6 weeks!) and a great way of trying out expensive products. You will have to book well in advance at some places!
i was first introduced to this cream by a beauty therapist. it is a light cream and is suitable for all skin types. it is very light and really makes your skin soft and silky. although its a bit pricey it is well worth the money. It is a true beauty booster and really wakes the skin and gives you a brighter and a clearer skin all day long.this morning cream also is a good base for foundation as it leaves a smooth application. I would really reccomend this cream to people who want to really look after their skin and dont mind paying that little bit extra. As with all moisturisers you need to cleanse and tone before you use it to get the full benefit.
