      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A lovely body cream, if you can afford it!

Being a bit of a beauty product addict, I always like to try out new things and vary the brands that I use. One of my most exciting discoveries has been finding online companies that provide beauty boxes. The idea is that you will be sent a box every month, which will contain a selection of various make-up, skin care, fragrance products etc for you to try out, and I have been trying a few from different suppliers. I received this Clarins Extra-Firming Body Cream in a previous delivery, and you can find further information at www.clarins.co.uk. There are two sizes available for purchase: 200ml for RRP £40.00, and 100ml for RRP £20.00. I received a smaller size version which contains 30ml.

Product description: "Lifts, tones, comforts. A rich, velvety cream to pamper the body. A formula rich in eight regenerating and firming plant extracts which help restore the skin's youthful density and elasticity. Moisturising and nourishing, this comforting body cream instantly smoothes away lines, leaving skin soft, satin-smooth and supple."

The lotion comes in a plain white bottle with Clarins' trademark red writing on it, and has a very simple design overall. I find it more practical for the packaging to be transparent so you can see how much product is left inside, and it was impossible to judge this with the solid white plastic packaging. The bottle has a screw-top cap at the base of the tube, and underneath this there is a small hole through which the lotion is dispensed.

Recommended directions for use: Apply to the whole body working upwards from ankles to decollete, concentrating on problem areas.

The cream itself is plain white with a thick texture to it, and is more like a body butter than a body lotion as it is very rich. It does rub easily into the skin and absorbs instantly without leaving any residue behind. The only problem is that it doesn't go very far and I have to use quite a lot of product to get a full coverage on each application. Because this is specifically marketed as a firming cream I have been using it over my thighs and buttocks, where I would usually see a bit of cellulite. This body cream is an excellent moisturiser and straight away it makes my skin feel softer to the touch. It has lasting effects and I only need to apply once a day to keep my skin in top condition. After several regular applications my skin tone felt more smooth and firm, and I was impressed with the results.

This body cream came across as having quite a strong natural scent that I would normally associate with organic beauty products. Unfortunately it is quite similar to some plant-based products I've used before that have a hint of garden weeds and decomposing compost heap type fragrance! It doesn't last for long but it is an unpleasant aspect of the product that is apparent during the application.

This Extra-Firming Body Cream by Clarins is a luxurious skincare treat. It has made a noticeable difference to my skin and has given excellent results in a short space of time. The only negative is of course that it is so expensive. My 30ml bottle lasted for only 1 week of use, and I can imagine that if I used this as an all-over body moisturiser I could get through vast quantities of it. I had a (much!) higher level of disposable income then this would certainly be going on my shopping list, but for now I will think of it as a nice treat.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

If you can afford it, go for it!

This is a review of Clarins Extra-firming body cream which I was fortunate to receive in a beauty box a few months ago. I was pleased to give this a try as I have been using oil to combat stretch marks and so a cream made a nice change to use on the body. My tube was a generous 30 ml sample.

        In use
On the back of the tube, it advises that you should apply to the whole body working upwards from ankles to decollete concentrating on problem areas. With a 30 ml tube, I could start at my ankles and finish at my knees as the cream is so thick you use quite a lot I find. Instead I concentrated on my upper arms, decollete and stomach as areas where the skin could do with some firming action. The cream sank in really well and did not feel greasy at all.

        My thoughts
I did really like this cream and used it daily for a week until I ran out. I liked how thick it was and how intense it felt on my skin. It had no particular fragrance which was a plus point (see my previous review on a certain Clarins product!). I do think if you were able to start at the ankles and work your way up you skin would be heavenly and you would truly feel the benefits of a spa like treatment for your skin.

        Results
I loved using this body cream but to be honest, I don't think 30ml was enough to give it a proper trial. I found that I got immediate results with soft and supple skin but this only lasted until the next bath or shower when a new layer needed applying. I would say that this borders on the consitency of a body butter and as such would be excellent for maintaining a tan whilst giving the body a deep moisturising treatment.

        Price and availability
A 200ml bottle costs around £40 which is pretty expensive but if you buy it from Boots you can also get points. It is worth waiting for promotional times too as you may get some sample sized products to play with.

        Final word
The tube claims to lift, tone and comfort which is a lot to expect from a cream that you rub into your skin! I think this was really high quality and a very luxurious product to use. I would be happy to use this again but at that price it would need to be a gift as I feel I can get similar results from a cheaper body butter.
