“ Brand: Clarins / Type: Face Cream / Subcategory: Moisturiser / Skin type: for dry skin and for all types / What it does: Hydrates, Moisturizes / Product line: Clarins Men „
This moisturiser is something that I have being trying over the past few months after my mum gave me a tub as she didn't like the feel of it on her skin.
Clarins is one of the well know French company and most of their products are on sale in department stores or via the Internet.
The Moisture quenching hydra cream comes in a lovely blue frosted glass pot with a white lid. As I inherited this one from my mum I am not sure what the outer packaging looked like.
How to use
Clarins advise applying this both in the morning or evening and by dabbing this on to the skin rather than pulling at it. I believe the reason for this is to stop the skin being dragged as it were and adding to the tight dry skin feel.
Hyaluronic acid: helps maintain ideal moisture levels.
Katafray bark: restructures skin's protective outermost layers, limits dehydration.
Sorbier tree bud: stimulates radiance-boosting microcirculation. (Taken form Clarins website)
It has taken me about 2 months to work my way through the majority of this pot and during this time it has been some of the warmest months on record and I have been not great at keeping my body hydrated. What this has meant is that this moisturizer has had it work cut out with trying to keep my skin from drying out and to look fresh. I am not sure it has totally lived up to these claims but this is how I have found it.
The cream itself is a lovely smooth texture and when you are taking it from the pot it feels lovely to the touch as it so thick and creamy. The cream itself comes up into nice soft peaks as you take it out of the tub which for some reason I always find satisfying. The smell to me reminds me of roses and bergamot and is not unpleasant to wear and have on your face. Dabbing the cream in is simple to do and often by the time I have finished lightly dabbing my face and neck the first area tackled as it were has been fully absorbed. There is a light feel left on my skin after applying it which lasts about 15 minutes but there is no discernible film on my skin and this is purely a sensation that I feel with using it. This sense of feeling a lightness on the skin was the reason my mum didn't like it as it felt wrong to her to then apply make up on not long after it and she found this made her foundation feel a little heavy. I personally don't wear make up to work unless there is an important meeting so this hasn't been an issue for me.
I have worn this cream at least once a day and twice if I remember or have time in the morning before work and dropping my son off at nursery. I do however always wear it at night and my skin does feel soft in the morning. The moisturiser is light and I have found during the time of using that my pores have got clogged and cause sports with wearing it as some other moisturisers have. Equally however it hasn't actually done anything to reduce some of my fine lines around my eyes or my major frown line by the top of my nose. I haven't noticed any difference in the depth of these due to my skin being more hydrated which I have found disappointing really. Equally for such a high end product I am surprised it also doesn't include any SPF levels as most moisturisers seem to now and given sun damage is a main cause of dehydrated skin this does seem to me a failure.
I like the feel of this on my skin and how it does seem to make my skin feel softer and it doesn't block pores. However for me personally I prefer to use a cream that may have a bit more of an impact on my fine lines. At around £30 for a 50 ml tub this does represent an investment but not one that I will be making again. I am going to give it 3 stars for its creamy texture moisturising ability and scent. But I will look for another product for my skins needs once my tub is finally used up as I didn't find it meant all my moisturiser requirements.
I am a big fan of Clarins Products and I particulary like Clarins face creams. Clarins products are available to buy online at many retailers including Cheapsmells, Salonskincare and Feelunique. Clarins counters are based in larger department stores like Debenhams, larger Boots and House of Frasers.
A good time to buy Clarins products is when they have their gift time offers. You have to buy 2 Clarins items and get to choose up to 4 deluxe size samples of other Clarins products. Firstly if you are buying Clarins products anyway then you get the deluxe samples free of charge and secondly the samples are a great way of trying new products before you buy them. The sample sizes are usually 15mls so this gives you enough of the product to try the item properly over a couple of weeks and lets you decide if it is right for you and you want to buy it.
Clarins Moisture Quenching Hydra- Balance Cream costs £26.00 for 50mls of the product. The cream is suitable for day time use. The cream is packaged in a glass type jar which can be recycled after use. The jar has a screw top lid and you just unscrew the lid to get to the cream. The jar has the name of the product on the front and directions for use on the back.
Clarins Moisture Quenching Hydra-Balance Cream helps the skin to maintain a constant and correct moisture level, protecting your complexion against modern heating and cooling systems, UV lights and the elements. The sweet white lupine, horse chestnut, cactus and ginseng added by Clarins in this lovely rich but light cream help to restructure and calm the skin, for continual protection against stresses and moisture loss and more radiant skin. The cream is suitable for normal to dry skin types.
Firstly I really like Clarins products. They are moderately expensive products and they have set prices and you hardly ever find Clarins products reduced in price. The best way to get good value is as I said before to buy your products when the gift time is on. Gift time happens about 4 times a year. In saying that this cream only costs £26 for 50mls of the cream. It is one of the cheapest Clarins moisturisers I have come across.
When I first open this jar of face cream it smells really quite nice, it does not have a floral scent, it smells of freshly washed cotton. The scent of this cream smells fresh and clean and I have never smelt any other Clarins product with a scent quite like this. It is not a heavy scent, it is a subtle scent perfect for a day cream, the scent is not sickly or overpowering in any way. Quite simply it's lovely.
The cream is very light in texture and looks quite gel like. It is completely white in colour and very see through. It is not a thick cream. When I touch the cream for the first time it feels cool to touch.
I place a small blob of the cream on my fingers, only about the size of a 10p piece. I expect this blob to be enough for my face and neck but I soon find it is not and I need to apply another blob of this cream to my skin. This has proved to be enough of this product to completely moisturise my face and neck.
When the cream is applied to my face it feels very soft and very light, this is down to the gel like texture of this product. The cream sinks into your skin almost as soon as you apply it. It feels good on my skin and I am happy with the results.
The hydration effects of this face cream lasts almost all day. This cream works perfectly as a day cream but I do not think it is rich enough to use as a night cream. Also this cream does not contain any Sun Protection Factor so it is beneficial to wear an SPF product along with this cream. SPF can be found in many foundations so probably better to follow with a foundation with SFP in it after using this cream.
If you are like me and only wear a day cream containing SPF then probably this cream is not for you.
This cream does not block pores. It gave my skin a very moisturised and radiant look and my skin looked fresh and supple. The moisture effects of this cream lasted nearly all day. The cream smells really nice and it is very easy to apply. It is reasonably priced for a Clarins product and is readily available at Clarins stockists. If this cream contained an SPF then in my opinion it would be perfect and I would become a regular user of this cream. As it does not contain SPF then I will not be buying it again.
If you have dry skin it can become a bit of a nightmare which can ultimately affect things like not being able to wear make-up due to skin flakiness, often accompanied by the uncomfortable exposed raw feeling of the face. Not pretty and I should know I have searched long and hard for a product that would make my face feel softer and less dry with the added bonus of making it look healthier. I found Clarins hydra quench cream and to be honest now wear this product daily.
Clarins Hydra-Quench is a Rich Cream which has been developed with very dry skin in mind. And for those who are exposed to the conditions of living in cold climates. The manufacturer claims that this is an ultra-moisturising skin care product, with a fine penetrating texture that satisfies all of the needs of those people who have dry skin. Regardless of variations in temperature and climate. Furthermore the cream is rich and soothing which will counteract the skin irritation and tightness linked to dryness and exposure to a harsh climate. (I have to be honest I wasn't planning going mountaineering wearing this product). I was seduced by the fact that it would help my really dry skin. The product has a gorgeous light and fresh fragrance and feels very luxurious when applied to the face.
Comes beautifully presented as you would expect from a Clarins product. (well they have to justify the expense somehow). It comes with an outer white box containing an instruction leaflet The product itself is displayed in a lovely frosted blue glass pot with a white lid and the Clarins logo on top and a gold band around it. The lid is a screwtop. It contains the product name and also its French equivalent and states that the cream is for very dry skin or use in cold climates.
How To Apply
Use as any other moisturizer, after cleansing the skin rub a generous amount into the face and neck every morning and repeat the process at night.
Hyaluronic acid helps the skin to maintain its moisture level. -Katafray bark: (restructures the corneal layer, limits dehydration). Sorbier tree bud (stimulates microcirculation). Arctic Cloudberry oil (nourishes and regenerates). Trehalose (plant sugar) moisturizes. Vitamin E (protects against free radicals). E3P Anti-Pollution Complex (protects skin against the harmful effects of today's pollution).
Absolutely gorgeous product which smells devine. Light and fresh. Product is quite thick and rubs in beautifully. Does not leave your face greasy or oily looking but makes it radiant. It feels like the ingredients are working immediately after application. The skin feels soft and revitalized. After using for a few days you definitely notice that the skin becomes less dry and its condition is most definitely improved. I have used this product for a few months now and my skin looks fabulous. There is also a product in the range available for medium dry skin also.
Owing to the Clarins name this product does cost a lot of money. Apply at least fifteen minutes before putting on make-up to ensure that it has well soaked into the skin. This also ensures that it does not affect the overall look of your make-up. There is only 1.7 ounces of product so unfortunately it will not last long if applying it twice daily.
This is one product which is definitely recommended. Dry skin can cause such misery and hydra-quench really works. It makes your skin feel absolutely wonderful and it does not take long to feel the benefit of using this cream. Shop around though. I would recommend buying this over the internet as I have seen a few sites that have heavily discounted this product. Overall rating 5 stars. The only disadvantage being the price.
