great little gift that I got for Christmas!

Christmas has been and gone, and I was very fortunate this year to be able to receive a lot of lovely presents! It's always nice to give and receive, and we did a Secret Santa at work, but with friends I am close to, we exchanged gifts separately. One of my lovely friends knew I had been interested in the Clarins brand of products as I had used some of hers (the handcream etc) and she bought me a little travel sized kit of some of the Clarins products, one of them being this Pure Melt Cleansing Gel.

It comes in a transparent tube, with a white lid and red font writing of the Clarins brand and the name of the product. It isn't overly luxurious but isn't basic, so the cleanser looks quite simple and straightforward. I am able to see inside the tube at the orange cleanser so it can clearly be seen when it is nearly finished.

The pure melt cleanser is a thick gel which when squeezed out should be applied to fingertips, massaged into the face and it turns into a warm oil. It smells very refreshing, slightly perfumed but not over bearing and very gentle on the face. It contains Marula Oil which is to leave skin with optimum radiance. It is also described as a makeup remover as it removes excess oil and impurities.

I find this cleanser really easy to use, and have been using it now for the last few days by applying it to my dry face first thing in the morning. I literally squeeze a small blob onto my fingertips which is more than enough, and I am sure this 30ml tube will last me absolutely ages! I carefully rub it in across my cheeks, T-Zone and chin but careful to avoid the eyes as once I did get it in my eyes and it stung quite a bit! Nevertheless, the oil has not irritated my skin and it feels really lovely and soothing everywhere else.

Washing it off my face is quite easy, I use warm water with either a flannel or sometimes just my hands and give it a good wipe all over which is quite easy to do, but sometimes takes a while as my my face can continue to feel quite oily after. Once washed off properly my face does feel rejuvenated and whilst this cleansing gel came with another face wash in the set I much preferred this one to the other.

In terms of caring for my skin, I currently have a spot living rent free on my forehead which is driving me up the wall! I have been using this face wash instead of my usual tea tree wipes temporarily and so far it has been going down and so I am living in the hope that this face wash is doing my face some good! I am also quite lazy, so on a Boxing Day night out I came home and fell asleep at 1.30am with my blusher and concealer on, and using this the next morning it came off a treat so it really did a great job so is a top class product.

On the whole, I am loving this pure melt gel cleanser and I certainly think I will continue to use it in future so Clarins will probably see some more of my custom! It's really easy to use, but doesn't come in cheap at £19.50 for a 100ml tube but I genuinely think this will last me so long, that the larger tube will be a long term investment and a good product for my vanity shelf in the bathroom :)

a lovely cleansing gel from Clarins

      ~Pure Melt Cleansing Gel~

This cleansing gel is offered by premium beauty brand Clarins. It is suitable for all skin types and has been dermatologically tested. It has a 3 in 1 formulation designed to remove melt away every trace of make up, excess oil and any impurities. Marula oil within this gel should rebalance, comfort and revive radiance in your skin.

      ~Packaging~

Clarins present this cleansing gel in a tall, slim tube with a flip cap at the base. The tube is made of almost clear, squeezy plastic allowing the orange gel to be visible. The essential product information is present on the tube and it can be recycled. This product has a 12 month usage life from first use.

      ~Where To Buy~

You can purchase this cleansing gel from any Clarins counter (House of Fraser, Debenhams etc) or on their websites. It is also available from www.clarins.co.uk priced at £19.50 for a 125ml size.

      ~My Experience~

I treat myself to premium beauty products as and when I can afford to. My last Clarins splurge was before Christmas last year and I opted to buy certain products when there was a free gift promotion available. One product I received as a free gift was a 75ml tube of this cleansing gel - not bad considering that the full size is only 50ml extra! I had been looking to try this for a while hence why I chose it as one of my free gift selections. I have been using it daily for the past four weeks or so now on a twice daily basis (most days anyway) and thought I'd give my opinion on it.

This cleansing gel is easy to dispense and you really do not need much per use - a tiny blob is more than sufficient as I discovered after reading the usage instructions properly! I am used to using cleansers that need to be applied to damp skin but this Clarins cleansing gel is different. You apply a small amount of the gel to dry skin at first - no water initially required. The gel is a pale orange colour when dispensed and looks like unset jelly. The scent isn't easy to describe - I always thought it would smell of oranges to be honest but it is light, fresh floral smell which is quite pleasant and not too strong at all.

The gel feels light and smooth. I tend to dispense it on to one hand and then massage it between my finger tips before applying it directly onto my dry skin. The first time I applied this, I used far too much gel and it didn't work in to my skin the way it should have. When massaged into dry skin, the gel is supposed to turn into a light oil and when applied correctly, it does exactly that. The initially sticky gel soon resembled a moist oil which felt rather pleasant and soothing against my skin. I found that I needed to massage it across my skin for a good few minutes to get the most from this gel and to be fair, I did find it to be a rather theraputic experience though time consuming.

This is definitely a unique cleanser to use due to the stages that it goes through on my skin. It transforms from the gel to the oil and then a milky layer when water is applied to my skin. I simply wet my hands with warm water and massaged my skin which created a creamy yet lightweight layer of milky foam which felt rather pleasant and moisturising. After rinsing my face and patting it dry, my skin did feel a little on the tight side which is something that I have experienced with many cleansers but this feeling quickly subsided.

I have been quite impressed by the level of performance by this cleansing gel. In the mornings, it freshens up my skin well and leaves it feeling soft but as I have extra dry skin, I feel the need to apply a thin layer of day cream over the top to enhance the moisture. In the evening, I find that this works a treat at removing any traces of blusher or powder from my skin leaving my skin free from dirt and general day to day impurities. I don't wear heavy make up but given how easily it removes my make up, I would say that it would remove heavier make up with ease. The three step process allows everything to melt off my skin leaving it fresh, ultra clean and soft to the touch. Again, I apply a night cream to top up the moisture but if you have normal skin, you will be unlikely to feel the need to do this in my opinion.

      ~Conclusion~

I love using this cleansing gel as I feel like I am giving my skin a deep down clean and it is left refreshed and looking healthy. I haven't experienced any irritation from using this product and it is very gentle against my already sensitive skin. I find that it brightens up my skin well as my skin often appears dull and lacking any healthy glow. As not much is needed per use, my 75ml tube is lasting incredibly well and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 125ml tube when I run out as this is one of the better cleansers on the market in my opinion albeit expensive.

      Thanks for reading :)

An excellent daily cleanser from a trusted brand

Since I've been trying really hard to save money lately I haven't been splashing out on expensive beauty products, as much as I want to! So I was really overjoyed when my mam bought me some Clarins products after seeing how well I was doing at not spending! One of the products she bought me was the Pure Melt Cleansing Gel, which I know she has used herself for years, so I had high hopes for it. It costs £19.50 for a 125ml tube.

The packaging is very simple, but like all Clarins products it still has a high quality look and feel to it, which is something I think is essential in a product of this price range. The plastic tube is clear so you can see the orangey coloured gel inside, which means you can always easily tell when it's running out. It has a flip top lid which makes it easy and convenient to use.

The cleanser is an orange coloured gel which is very thick in consistency. It has a very subtle, barely noticeable scent which is fresh and just slightly floral. The gel should be applied to dry skin, massaged in and then rinsed off with water.

When applied to the skin the gel begins to turn into an oil as you massage it in. I find only a small amount is sufficient to cleanse my entire face as it spreads really easily and a small amount really does cover a large area. It feels lovely and moisturising on my skin as well as feeling as though it's lifting away all the dirt and impurities from my face. When I start to rinse it off it turns to a milky consistency which feels quite creamy, I massage this in a little more before fully rinsing it off.

Once the cleanser is rinsed off my skin is left feeling very refreshed and clean, but it also feels really comfortable. A lot of cleansers leave the skin feeling over-stripped, dry, tight or otherwise uncomfortable, but this doesn't. It's left feeling nourished as well as just fresh and clean, but unlike creamy cleansers it doesn't leave my combination-oily skin feeling clogged, dirty or greasy, or looking shiny. My skin has a kind of fresh, clear glow about it when I've used this.

After using this regularly for a while I have noticed my pores are looking less clogged and my skin is looking generally clearer and healthier. I feel it really does drag all the dirt and grease out of my pores, but does so without being harsh, so my skin is left really soft and smooth too.

Overall I'm really impressed with this cleanser and I can definitely see why my mam has used it for so long. Thankfully due to the small amount needed each time the tube will last me ages, which is great as I really don't want to be spending this kind of money on a cleanser at the moment!

A melt on your face, moisturising cleanser

I received a trial sized version of this from a colleague after complaining about my weird dry skin.

I have been really impressed with this product, although i don't know whether I would pay for a full sized version, because it is rather expensive (around £15 for 125ml). Having said that my trial sized version has lasted longer than I expected and I haven't been that frugal about using it.

In terms of using the product, unlike other gel cleansers you don't put this on wet or damp skin, you put it on dry skin. You leave it for about 30 seconds and it turns from the gel you see in the tube to a thicker, creamier consistency, like it has actually melted onto your face and it really feels like it is moisturising and cleaning your skin. Then all you have to do is rinse it off with clean water and you're done.

It didn't give that taut feeling I sometimes get with other gel cleansers and my dry patches really have started to disappear so I would certainly say that this product works for dry skin. I also have the pleasure of suffering from sensitive skin and this product didn't cause me to flair up either.

All in all I would say this is a fab cleanser although a little expensive.

This Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel is an expensive product (this is the only but a rather major downside ) but it is also an incredibly effective product and that is the big plus side of the product. It certainly proves the adage " you get what you pay for". You can expect to pay around the £17 to £20 price range for a 125ml tube of this cleansing wash. One of the factors that does offset the cost a little is the fact that you do not need to use a lot at a tme so a tube does last for a decent number of washes.

The product does not have any smell and it is very easy to apply with a gentle circular motion when the skin has just been washed. It really does feel like the gel is melting as it seemlessly absorbs into my face and neck. My skin really does feel nice and smooth after using this and it does not feel at all greasy even though the gel itself has a slightly oily quality to it as you apply it. I was amazed at how quickly it absorbed.

I also find that this cleansing gel as well as helping to keep my complexion spot and blemish free also has a slight cooling effect as it is applied. It is a lovely product to use when you want to pamper yourself. My skin is left feeling hydrated and also looking smooth and even with a healthy glow to it. This is certainly a product that I would recommend. The only negative is the price of the product as it is not cheap.

This face gel is one of my favourite Clarins products, it is not cheap as I paid £17.99 for a 125ml size tube however one of the plus points is that you do not need to use a lot for each application so you do get a decent amount of use out of a tube.

The packaging is quite simple, it stands on the flip top and is a clear plastic tube so you can see the golden honey coloured gel inside so you know how much you have left at any time. I always apply this after I have washed my face and I leave my skin a little damp before I apply it as I find that it massages in easier.

The first thing I noticed is that this product is pretty much odourless, it also massages into my skin really easily and I apply it to my face and neck area in a soft circular motion using a gentle touch. It feels wonderfully smooth as it is slowly absorbed into my skin, it has a slight oily quality however it does not leave my skin feeling greasy. Instead my skin feels very smooth and there is a cooling feeling on my skin as it works its way in.

My face certainly feels refreshed and pampered after using this and also very well moisturised. The description of this being a Pure Melt Cleansing Gel is a good one as it does feel like it is melting into my skin, it is a slightly strange sensation at first but one that I really like. It has a cool cleansing action and my skin certainly responds well when I use this with a nice healthy glow and it feels well hydrated.

I would certainly recommend this as in my opinion it is one of the best products in the Clarins range.

May work well for some skins--combining several functions in a single tube

I bought myself a tube of this Gel at Christmas when I was away from home and had left my usual facial cleansing oil at home. I love Clarins but have exceptionally reactive skin, so always cross my fingers when I try something new.

          What it does.
As you squeeze it out of the tube it looks like a gel. As you rub it into your fingers prior to applying it to your face it becomes an oil. It goes onto your face very easily and feels great as you massage it on. Finally, rinsing with water creates a milk, which is the part that cleans the skin. All sounds great.

When I used it my skin felt clean but slightly 'residued'. i wiped my face on a flannel to check it was clean and certainly there was the impression that all was well: no smears of dirt or makeup remained. I did feel that, despite several attempts, it was hard for me to rinse it all off, though. It felt as though there was a film on my skin. However, it felt reasonably moisturised afterwards, from the oil part of the equation. But next day there was the dreaded break-out on my face. Something in the list of ingredients doesn't agree with my skin. Either that or it is simply too rich for a combination skin.

To give this product a fair chance I have used it again three times since: once in very cold weather in December where the extra moisturising element would be useful.. The same thing happens: it feels lovely at the time but then there's a reaction on my skin afterwards.

          Would I buy it again?
Probably not. In fact I'll probably give my tube away. It probably does work well on some skins, just not mine. For this reason I'm giving the Melt three stars.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          I wouldn't purchase.

A bottle holding 75ml was passed over to me last August by my friend from last summers buy 2 products get a selection of summer essentials free, one of which was this and as she prefers Clarins one step cleanser it was thrown my way and greatfully received. I only use it about once or twice a month so it has lasted me 8 months so far and will probably end up lasting a year.

I usually use the traditional cleanser (milk), toner then moisturiser to take my make up off as I find it easier. However when away from home taking one bottle is better than 3, as I also use it to take my eye make up off as well, I'm sure it's not really meant for this but on the odd occasion I don't have any issues doing this.

The product comes in a clear tube which stands on it's own white flip lid. I like the fact the bottles clear so you can see when to buy another one or if going away don't take it with you and end up running out while away. The flip lid is easy to use even if I use in the shower with wet hands as it's very sturdy to place on wet surfaces while still being easy to open and close.

The instructions are to apply on dry skin and gently massage in, the gel will then transform into an oil which once rinsed with water to create a milk is meant to eliminate impurities. Sometimes I apply on dry skin most of the time I go straight to the milk for quickness as I haven't found any difference in getting my make up off either way. I'm not a fan of facial washes for taking make up off with the exception of Mary Kays timewise product that also exfoliates as well leaving skin exceptionally soft. I find although leaving my skin feeling cleaner than cleansing milk and toner most products of this type also dries my skin out leaving it in need of a thicker (richer) moisturiser than I normally use. This product is no exception. The oil effect I really don't like as I feel it's not really doing anything, then when it supposedly turns into a milk it's not foamy enough for my liking. Does it actually work? Well yes it does take my make up off and sometimes eye make up but do I like using it? No. So I won't be replacing this bottle once gone, I'll go back to my Mary Kay.

For those of you who think you may like, it sells for around £18.50 at places like boots/department stores.

A nice light gel that cleanses the skin perfectly

I was extremely lucky to receive a Clarins gift set for Christmas from my husband's Aunt. As mentioned in a previous review the Aunt in question is in her 80's and has a fabulous skin complexion that I am envious of despite only being in my thirties, which she swears amongst other things is due to using good quality products.
As I know she is a big fan of Clarins (as I've seen many items dotted about in her bathroom over the years) I was very excited and grateful to unwrap my gift at Christmas which comprised of a Body Scrub (see separate review), a Hand Cream and this Pure Melt Cleansing Gel for the face which I will now review..

          Price, packaging and Availability~

Clarins Pure Melt Gel is basically a fancy way of calling itself a facial wash. It claims it's for all skin types and comes housed in a basic upright standing, transparent tube with a flip open/close lid in a contrasting white. As with the majority of Clarins products the lettering and the logo is in a reddish colour whilst there is a signature gold coloured finish around the rim giving it that expensive and classic look.
I am aware this is available in trial sample sizes though this one I have is the full sized 125ml and if buying singularly is anything in the region of £16 upwards. (*If wanting to try check out Ebay as there are always seems to be the smaller sized samples at reasonable prices from my experience of looking).
Though I didn't purchase this myself Clarins products are available from most large department stores and alternatively online.

My experience of using the Pure Melt Gel myself~
Having being only fairly impressed with the body scrub and not totally blown away I was hesitant to how this face gel would perform when put to the test.
The gel itself is designed for 'all skin types' and as I have dry/sensitive skin I wondered how it would fare though I have to admit it certainly has a delicate and gentle appearance to it ,so I didn't think it would be too harsh when applied to my face.

On opening the lid, which I must point out is very easy to do so, (it also closes with a satisfying 'click' and up to press none of my product has leaked) I squeezed a small amount out onto the palm of my hands. By 'small amount' I mean a approximately a pea sized blob and this I have found seems enough to suffice coverage of my entire face and neck area.
I have found that it works best by splashing my face with tepid water and allowing to almost dry before gently rubbing the gel into my skin though this may be just my own personal preference.

The consistency of the gel feels very light and though looks to have a slight greasy appearance to it the texture is actually very odd and almost 'jelly' like. The description of the colouring also differs in my opinion as it's described as being a 'honey' colour yet to me the appearance of the gel is more of a tangerine though this doesn't deter from it's effects as a cleansing agent.
Although I only own and have ever used 3 different Clarins products I have found that none of them seem to have much fragrance and this is no exception. Whether this is the case with other products in the vast range I can't comment on, but as this is made featuring Marula oil and the warm citrus colouring of the gel I expected it to have a fragrance to match.

          Results?~
As mentioned I have found the best results for me seem to be when the skin is almost dry and then the gel is applied to the skin in circular motions. On first application the gel feels soothing and has a gentle cooling effect whilst remaining in a gel form. After about twenty seconds or so it turns slightly oily and feels very moisturising against my skin before becoming a thicker and creamier consistency.

The gel is named so as it does literally melt into the skin and I could really feel it cleansing yet moisturising at the same time. It rinses away very easy despite it becoming a thicker cream like product, and I have to say I was far more impressed with this than the body scrub. My skin felt soft and not taut or dry like some gel products can leave it feeling so it scores top points with me for that alone.

Because such a small amount of this is needed I have been using it more frequently - every evening in fact for about two weeks, and it's made very little damage to the overall amount and there is still over 3/4 of the product left despite not being so frugal as with the body scrub.

This is a lovely cleanser and I am over the moon with it but unfortunately I couldn't justify paying the hefty price tag myself, though I will be scouring Ebay for smaller trail sizes once the gel is almost used up.

Excellent product and value for money

This product is excellent if you suffer from dry skin.

The method of use is different to most "face-washes". You apply it to dry skin and then add a little water to sort of "emulsify" it.

It goes on beautifully and, as it is oil based it doesn't drag across the skin which can often cause irritation to drier skin types.

I have found that my skin has been a lot better behaved (ie less dry patches) since I started using this (about 3 months ago).

The main issue I have with it is that you have to rub it into dry skin first and then add water later. This is OK if you are washing your face in the sink, but if you are jumping into the shower in the morning it's really easy to forget to apply first!

Don't let the price put you off, this product lasts for ages - you only have to use a very small amount.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A good product, would recommend as a treat to your skin.

I was originally give some as a gift, but have since been to buy more as it had such a wonderful outcome on my skin. I suffer from quite dry skin on my face, which then develops into an oily t-zone as the day progresses, though I find that with using this I don't suffer anywhere near as much.
It starts off as a gel which then develops into an oil as you massage it into the dry skin of your face. When you wash it off with warm water it turns into a soapy substance. It never fails to be gentle on my skin and leaves my face feeling beautifully smooth and hydrated. The only disappointment I found with this is that if you want to efficiently remove eye make-up then you will have to use a separate product. Although it it fine to use in the general eye area and doesn't sting too much if you get it into your eyes, I find that actively rubbing the product into your eyes to remove mascara and eyeliner does cause irritation unlike other products I have used in the past.
You don't need to use a lot of the gel to cleanse your face, as once it has broken down into the oil it spreads quite a long way across your face, so although the initial payout for the tube is expensive, it does last for a long time.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

An effective cleanser and makeup remover.

It was only by chance I came across this product. Tucked away for a while at the bottom of a goody bag I had received for helping out with a store event, it remained there until one night I came in from a night out with a face full of makeup and decided to give it a go.

Usually sticking to the basics, I would take my make up off with the simple method of cotton wool and Johnson's baby lotion. Too tired at night to care and too busy in the morning getting my toddler and myself ready for the day, I didn't follow any sort of skin regime, I especially didn't look into purchasing Clarins products with their reputation of being quite pricey.
Just from using this cleansing gel I have changed my opinion on Clarins products and have also developed a routine for my skincare.

The cleanser is stored within a plastic transparent and squeezable tube which stands upside down, perfect for when you are running out of the product and need to give it a bit of a squeeze.
You apply the amber coloured gel to dry skin using your fingertips in small circular movements, as the instructions indicate to do so. Changing to an oil-like liquid it glides easily over your face, without you having to use too much.
When washing it off it simply changes to a soft milk substance all whilst having a soft pleasant smell rather than some more overwhelming types.
This product leaves your face feeling so hydrated and cleansed and I have experienced no tightness after use, or greasiness. It is also perfect for removing makeup; I really couldn't believe just how good it was. All traces of my mascara were washed away and my eyes never even became irritated. But most of all your face does look radiant after use. I noticed a change almost instantly after getting into the routine of using the product. I have combination skin and often found my face looking dull, this really is a product I find effective for me and it hasn't led to any breakouts. I would say it would have the same benefits for any skin type.

The predictable downside to this product is of course the price. I looked on their website having received mine for free and almost choked. Like most Clarins' products it really isn't cheap at £17.50 for a 125ml tube.

But I find myself justifying the price. It does what it says it's supposed to do, far better than some other products I have tried. It lasts for a long time providing that you don't use too much at a time (Which you don't have to) and you save money in the long run if you buy this than consistently buying new foundations to cover up break outs caused by neglected skin.
Overall a winner and one I intend to stick with.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

This is a very nice cleanser which seems to leave the skin feeling good & looking a little refined.

Every Christmas and birthday for at least fifteen years one of my favourite aunties (I have many) gives me Clarins or Clinique products as a gift. Whilst these are wonderful pressies, thoughtful and not cheap either, I have never really been a fan of these brands. I tried Cliniques' Dramatically Different moisturiser once, but found it pretty much identical to the original yellow Vaseline intensive care. Somehow I got the two brands confused in my little mind and would pass on products of both brands to other family members, or reluctantly use them myself (when I'd run out of everything else). One product I did enjoy using was Clarins Age Control Hand Lotion, but wouldn't buy it myself as personally I find a richer (l'occitane) hand cream with separate sun screen far better.

Last September I received Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel (Gelee Fondante Demaquillante) in 125ml size, the price varies from about £15.75 at richardjohn.co.uk to £17.50 in Boots and £19.99 at fragrance mad!. I have to say this little cleanser changed my opinion on Clarins products to some extent. The packaging, as always with Clarins is simple and classic, a soft white box with red writing, detailing the product name, and some information about it on the back. The box comes wrapped in a thin cellophane sheath, inside there's a stiffening cardboard strip, the actual product, and the multilingual instructions - which I glance at and cavalierly discard. Everything I need to know about how to use it is printed concisely on the back of the 'tube' in which the product is contained, and despite the fact that these instructions are displayed in five languages the text is clear, and fairly easy to read. This product contains Marula oil which I had heard positive things about, but I'm not sure where I heard (or most likely read) these positive things. Marula oil is yet another plant based oil, this one is derived from the fruit kernels of the African Marula tree, one of the benefits seems to be that it has "free radical scavenging properties higher than most seed oils on the market. These reduce the action of free radicals thus preventing cell damage in the first place" (ezine articles Eileen M Murphy). I think I would rather have this interesting oil in a moisturiser than something I'm going to rinse off my face, and Clarins may have a range that uses this throughout - so I can't comment on whether the cleanser compliments any of their other products or not.

The clear tube (with white flip open top) allows you to see exactly how much product you have used. The cleanser is an attractive translucent pale honey colour, and has a nice texture, not runny so that you lose half of it as it spurts onto your fingers, and not too thick that you pop a vein squeezing the tube. The instructions tell you to take a small amount (I tend to use about two 'peas' worth), apply it to dry skin, massaging it into your face (neck, décolleté wherever you want to cleanse). It then 'melts' (as the instructions inform you it's supposed to) into a pleasant non greasy oil, which feels quite moisturising for a cleanser, and when you rinse with water it sort of transforms into a milk (again as expected from the directions) and rinses away cleanly with no fuss.

I always cleanse my face scrupulously at night, and give it a good seeing to in the morning also. However I'm not particularly brand loyal in this department, as long as a product isn't highly perfumed and not too harsh or greasy I'll give it a try, and this product isn't really going to change that. Having slightly greasy skin I tend to prefer liquid or 'special' non greasy cleansers. As this product contains oil I thought it might not suite my skin. I was wrong, my skin loves it. The Clarins Pure Melt Cleansing Gel left my face perfectly clean, soft and smooth, with no greasiness or tightness afterwards, even lifting - without stinging - eye make up. It didn't shift most of my waterproof mascara, but I wasn't concerned by this as (no matter what the blurb says) nothing other than vaseline does. The gel has virtually no scent, just a nice clean fresh 'tinge' of an aroma which I find it hard to pinpoint to smelling of anything in particular. This is a very nice and effective cleanser which if it wasn't for the price I wouldn't mind using regularly. However I do balk at paying fifteen pounds or more for something I am washing away, and although the product is quite lovely I find other cheaper products just as effective and pleasant. Although the price is about par for the course for this type of brand, as far as skin care goes, I would personally prefer to spend my money on a treatment product than a cleanser.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

                Another favourite for me

I went through a faze of cutting back on things that I thought were non-essentials or where I could find cheaper alternatives as most people are having to do recently and turned my back on Clarins for some other cheaper brands. However, my skin did not like any of them. Always said I had expensive tastes. So now I have returned to Clarins and found that there are now a lot more products to choose from.

I ws given two tubs of the Pure Melt Cleansing Gel by my partners mum (many many thanks) as she had recently moved over to Estee Lauder and this came with a big recommendation from her.

I do try to cleanse and toner twice a day but this sometimes proves to be more of a chore especially at night when all I want to do is curl up and go to sleep, but this product is a great time saver.

As with all Clarins products this comes in the usual white, thick cardboard box with the Clarins logo on. Inside the box you find the tube of cleansing gel and information leaflet in lots of different languages. The tube itself is plastic with a flip top plastic lid. The tube stands on the lid so when you are coming to the end of the tube you can get almost every last bit out of it.

This product contains marula oil which Clarins says "comforts, rebalances and revives radiance." And is suitable for all skin types. They say that it removes all impurities from your face and can even cope with make up.....

The first few times you use it, it does feel a bit strange as you are putting a gel on to your face which reminds me of those peel off face masks but instead of staying as a gel as you apply this to your face, it does go on very easily, and you probably only need a bit the size of a 20p piece to cover your face. Clarins say that as it goes on to your skin it changes to a "sheer deep-cleansing oil" and I wouldn't necessarily agree with this but its does become more fluid on your skin. You do need to make sure that you follow the instructions and put this on to dry skin otherwise it doesn't work.

I have found that even a little moisture on my hands is enough to change the consistency so do make sure they are dry to. Once you have put it on its simply a case of rinsing it off with water and heres the clever bit, as the water goes on it changes to a consistency of a cleansing milk and does cloud the water. The claims from Clarins that this takes off make up as well is true and you don't need to worry about tying to remove the worst of your make up first as this will take it all off. The only thing you will need is something to remove your eye make up as its not suitable for this.

After using this my skins does feel refreshed and unlike some water removable cleansers it doesn't leave my skin feeling dry. All I do then is just follow up with a little toner (though the instructions don't say you need to and a few times I haven't and then moisturise as normal.

Unlike other parts of the Clarins range which smell like you are in a spa environment and can leave your bathroom smelling like one for a while, I don't think this has any particular smell to it. So if you are someone who doesn't like anything that is overly perfumed then this is another plus point for you.

Clarins can be more expensive than other brands, hence my use of cheaper brands for a while, but they do seem to last longer than the cheaper brands so in my opinion work out at about the same. I didn't pay for this but I am going to run out shortly and will need to invest in some more and boots sell this at £16.50 for a 125ml which I think is good value especially as I can get some points with this as well.

Overall I think this product is great and my skin feels soft after using it. Just remember that you need to have dry skin and hands before you use it for it to work.

                Advantages

                Disadvantages

Makes you feel that you're being good to your skin but is a bit of a fuss to put on.

I have normal skin that is prone to breaking out in times of stress. I usually use Clarins foaming wash but decided to use this for a change. It's oily then milky consistency makes you feel that you're having a mimi spa treatment and that you're doing your skin a lot of good! I can't say that I've noticed any difference between the effects of this and the foaming cleanser though. A negative side is I usually wash my face in the shower in the mornings and as you have to apply this to dry skin I've had to get into the habit of applying it before I get in the shower then washing it off once inside! I'll be going back to the foaming cleanser once I finish this bottle just for ease but it's definately worth a try if you're not as fanatical about your morning routine as I am!
