      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Big promises, few results.

This was one of the first cleaners I have tried. I bought it because it claimed to help clear blackheads and oily skin. I also picked it up for £1 at the time, and I'm a sucker for products on offer.

My skin can be sensitive at times, and I found this product made my skin tingle (so it does feel like the product is doing something), but it occasionally irritated my skin. Compared to more 'natural' cleansers (like those from Body Shop) this one smells quite medical / chemically to me. After using other cleansers, I found the smell and skin irritation of this product unpleasant in comparison. Despite using this constantly, I did not see any improvements in my spots or blackheads. It did effectively strip the oil from my face, however.

It is pretty easy to use. Like most cleaners you just put some of the product on cotton wool and wipe over your face and neck. The product comes in a flip top so it's easy to control the amount of cleanser that comes out. However, these pros don't really outweigh the fact that this cleanser did not do anything for my skin.

Bottom line: My skin felt cleaner as it did help clear the excess oil from my skin, but it did not help clear my black heads or spots. Because of that, plus the smell, stinging and price, I would not buy this product again.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Great as everyday cleansing

I used to use this product quite a lot, however have never really seen any results from it. The reason being though maybe because it's more of 'spots' than 'blackheads' that I have, but I know many people still choose it like I have done to assist in removing spots.

The reason I still use this is because it gives you a clean sort of feeling and especially helps get rid of greasy skin which I have a lot, just putting a bit on a cotton wool pad at the end of each day and wiping over my face and shoulders gets rid of all the grease and makes it less shiny, even if it doesn't help my spots go away.

Would recommend as part of an everyday cleansing, or if you are in a hurry and don't have time to shower then using this makes you feel less dirty.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Definitely recommended for people that have blackheads or spots.

Well, As you can see this is another one of my reviews except this time, it's for something much different!

Clean and Clear are a Johnson and Johnson company which produced and create many different products for facial and skin care. They make many different products including exfoiliating and refreshing facial washes, spot, whitehead and blackhead cleansing lotions and many facial moisturisers.

Why did I pick this particular product?

Well, this particular product offers a range of benefits for your facial skin. Not only does it help clear and prevent breakouts of spots, whiteheads and blackheads but it also cleans and refreshes skin by removing oil, dirt and dead cells trapped deep in the pores. It's non - toxic and gentle formula is specially designed to cleanse your facial skin without damaging pores or cells.

Why is this product so great?

Clean & Clear Blackhead Clearing Cleanser is specially formulated to start fighting blackheads from Day 1! The formula also contains a blackhead fighting ingredient, and when used daily, helps prevent blackheads from forming.

        Directions for use:

Apply cleanser to a cotton pad and wipe over your face and neck, giving extra attention to the T-zone and avoiding the sensitive eye area.
Alternatively, use it after cleansing to tighten and tone pores.
Use once or twice a day, there's no need to rinse your face after.

        Ingredients:

Aqua, Alcohol Denat., PPG-5-Ceteth-20, Glycerin, Salicylic Acid, Panthenol, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Gel, Bisabolol, Propylene Glycol, Glucose, Butylene Glycol, Menthyl Lactate, Sodium Benzoate, Parfum.

My personal experience with this product:

I purchased this product from one of my local village pharmacies and it cost me £1.99 but the price may vary in other shops and supermarkets.
I used it for around 3 weeks applying it twice a day after washing and it removed every single blackhead, whitehead and spot.

It is an exceptionally useful and reliable product which definitely works for both men and women. I definitely recommend that you try this product and any other products from Clean & Clear's amazing range.

        Thank You for reading,
        Marie.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        Preventative rather than a cure...

So as mentioned on my previous reviews I do not have the best skin for a 25 year old - I like to use the big branded stuff but I like to look out for certain products when on offer and I barely ever pay out full RRP unless I know the product is decent.

Clean & Clear is one of those top named brands which has been out forever and since my teenage years I have invested in products from their range - mainly face scrubs - which have worked mainly in my favour with fantastic results.

Unfortunately for me, I do carry around a lot of horrible looking blackheads especially around my nose area - and anyone who has these will agree with me when I say they can be really hard to shift them. I am still trying to find a miracle product which will do exactly this. In this sense I have tried LOADS of scrubs, pore strips and cleansers over the years.

I came across this blackhead cleanser in Tesco's for around £1 on offer - I had never tried this particular product before and at that price it was definetely worth giving it a go since I trusted the brand!

        **********

Clean & Clear is part of Johnson & Johnson company which is a big name in the world of skin care products. The bottle isn't particually outstanding and catching to the eye in my opinion and the shape is rectangular with a slight curve to the top near the lid. The lid is a darker blue colour, in comparrison to the bottle which is a transparant blue and is quite firm and can be easily popped open using your thumb.

The front label tells you that the product is oil free and guarentees you results from just day 1 from when you start using it... which sounds promising enough. It then confirms under this passage it helps clear and prevent blackheads.

The back label gives you information on the way the liquid works on your skin - that it removes dirt, oil and dead cells which are trapped in the pores which go on to cause blackheads and to help it contains blackhead fighting ingredients to get the job done and works in the same way to stop them coming back. The packaging also claims that this is gentle enough to use on your skin every day and that your face will start feeling cleaner from day 1.

To use this you simply pour some of the liquid on to some cotton pad and wipe all over your neck and face - and there is no need to rinse.

The liquid inside the bottle is very thin - the same consistancy as water - and due to the bottle colour looks like a light blue in colour, however when it leaves the bottle on to the cotton pad it turns clear. One issue I have about this product is due to the liquid being so thin and the opening to the bottle under the lid being a bit on the wide side is that it can cause a mess when the liquid leaves the bottle. An area of improvement I would say to the manufacturers is to have a smaller nozzle on the bottles. Another thing I hate about the product is the smell - it smells like nail varnish remover which is something I have never really liked the smell of.

The bottle size I am reviewing today is 200 ml and the product has a total shelf life of up to 12 months.

        **********

        My Verdict

I have been using this product around once a day on average in the morning for the last 2 months and have a little more than 3/4 of the bottle left so it definetely has the ability to last a long time. I tend to use this cleanser after using a face scrub to give the maximum effect for the product to work and I do like how much cleaner my skin feels after use. Sadly around an hour after use it seems to make my skin feel very tight and dry - and not in a good way...

To be honest I don't have anything really positive to say about this product, I am throughly dissapointed due to the fact I believed this to be a cure for blackheads which is what I am looking for... Sadly it seems to be a preventative if you don't have blackheads yet. I have barely noticed a difference to using this along side a beaded face scrub...

        **********

This blackhead cleanser is currently priced at £3.50 in Tesco which in my opinion is way too much for what it does. If you already have blackheads look for something else, if you want something to prevent them I would recommend buying this when on offer.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

A brilliant cleanser but too harsh for everyday use

I have been a fan of Clean and Clear for years but I usually try and buy the sensitive cleanser as I have really sensitive skin. I bought the blackhead clearing cleanser instead of my normal one because it was on offer so I decided to try it out and see if it was as good as the original.

The cleanser comes in a light purple coloured bottle with a clear liquid inside. The cleanser has a really strong smell of alcohol that is apparent as soon as you open the lid. To use the cleanser you just soak some cotton wool and sweep it over your skin making sure to pay attention to the areas where you are congested and alongside your nose where you have blackheads.

As a cleanser this is fantastic and it removes every single last bit of dirt and make-up and I am always amazed with how much dirt it gets from my skin even when I think it is relatively clean.
The downside of this cleansing is that the cleanser is really harsh on my skin. It stings my skin slightly when I use it and afterwards I am left looking red and blotchy. The redness does fade but I most definitely wouldn't use this in the morning before I had to leave the house and I would only use it at night when I know it doesn't matter if my face is red as no one will see me.

It also leaves my skin feeling stripped of moisture so I need to make sure that I use a rich moisturiser to replace the moisture that this removes.
The upside of using this is that it really does work wonders on helping to clear my skin up and give it a good clear out. The bottle says that the cleanser starts to work from day one and I would say that this is true as when my skin is looking congested and I have blackheads I use this and it starts to look clearer by the next day and within a few days any blackheads that I have are 90% gone.

It also works amazingly well as a make-up remover. It might be a little harsh for eye make-up but it removes every little last trace of foundation on my face and neck.
A bottle of this cleanser costs around about £2.99 but is often on offer. I think this is brilliant value and I would really recommend it if you suffer from spots and blackheads.

I personally will continue to use this anytime I get blackheads as it is better than the sensitive one for getting rid of the ugly little blighters but I will only be using it when I do have blackheads as it is just a little too harsh for daily use so I will probably stick to my sensitive one for daily use and just keep this for when my skin is really bad and in need of a good clear out.

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

A decent cleanser, but no blackhead removing miracle

I have never had the best skin, and in my mid-twenties I still have spots here and there and small blackheads and clogged pores on my nose. It's frustrating, especially when my skin started to clear somewhat only to return my appearance to that of a teenager when I'm far from those years now. Unfortunately, I've never found a product to tackle blackheads effectively, and this cleanser goes on my list of fails.

The cleanser comes in a transparent purple plastic bottle with plastic flip-up lid. It's quite recognisable and the clean and clear logo is clearly visible near the top. The front of the bottle tells us that the product is 'oil free', is designed to help 'clear and prevent blackheads' and shows results 'from day 1'. This is made by Johnson and Johnson, a brand with years of expertise that I trust to create effective and gentle health and beauty products.

The cleanser aims to remove all the nasties like dirt, dead cells and oils inside the pores, whilst the 'blackhead-fighting ingredient' helps to clear out blackheads and prevent their unwelcome return. I personally find that the claims of a product and what actually happens can be two very different things, but it's always worth trying for yourself if you're still searching for something effective.

To apply this, splash a little on to a cotton wool pad and wipe over your face. You needn't rinse afterwards. Obviously, void contact with eyes and if you notice any irritation discontinue use. What I really like about this product is the method of application; sometimes using a facial wash can be messy and more time consuming, whereas using a cotton pad is clean and you can do it more 'on the go' rather than in the sink or shower. I try to use this in circular motions and move upwards, focusing in particular on my nose. Afterwards you can often see the yucky discolouration of the pad, which is a good thing because it makes you feel that it's doing something. It leaves a slightly tingly sensation afterwards, and my skin genuinely feels cleaner and much more refreshed. If you have slightly sensitive skin or a tendency towards dryness, you might want to apply moisturiser afterwards as it can dry skin out a little. I would say I have slightly sensitive skin, however, but haven't found any irritation or problems with using this.

Unfortunately, I can't say I've noticed a difference in the appearance of small blackheads that are still there after a long use of this product daily. However, that's not to say I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. I still find it to be a good cleanser, being easy to use and leaving my face feeling slightly tingly clean.

The Clean And Clear blackhead range also includes a scrub, though I tend to use a different face scrub (Soap and Glory), followed by this. I think that to get the best results, you need to focus on a skin care routine that includes exfoliating and cleansing, ensuring make up is always taken off, letting your skin breathe etc. Despite doing all the things you 'should' do, this hasn't rid me of pesky little blackheads. I still use it for freshening up and cleaning my skin, but it hasn't done what it claimed it would.

200ml sells for around £2.99 (Boots)

            Advantages

            Disadvantages

It might work for others, but not for me. Some caution recommended, especially on sensitive skin.

I first used this product a few years ago, then stopped using it for reasons I couldn't remember. I'm prone to blackheads and can't stand them, so thought I'd try picking up another bottle, since I was sure that it had worked well before. After a few days I realised why I must've stopped using it - it makes me break out in hives! Good times.

PACKAGING: This is a thin liquid that comes in a clear blue 200ml bottle, quite a lot of product for about £2.99 (sometimes cheaper on offer or from a supermarket). The stickers promise "Results from Day 1", stating the product clears impurities from your pores and helps prevent the return of blackheads. The bottle has a simple flip cap, though beware not to tip out too much of the product, since it's essentially water in consistency and a little goes a long way.

APPLICATION: The label states that all you need is a simple wipe over with a cotton pad, with no need to rinse, and the soothing cleanser will do the rest. A small splash of it is usually plenty to cleanse my whole face, so one bottle lasts for a very long time. I always end up rushing to rinse it off, though, since it has a strong acidic smell and stings like nobody's business. What happened to "gentle" and "soothing actives"?

QUALITY: It does seem to do its job and deliver on the promise of cleaning out pores. You can really feel the tightening in your skin soon after it's applied, but I'm not sure if that's good or bad - the stinging is a bit too intense to be pleasant. Afterwards, my pores are a lot clearer, but the drying effects of the cleanser's alcohol content aren't really worth it. It's effective but way too chemical for my liking. Within five or ten minutes of applying, an itchy red rash starts to crop up around my mouth and cheeks and can take an hour or more to fade. It really cools my enthusiasm for any useful cleansing effects the product might have!

I'm bemused and disappointed by this cleanser. I've never had such a reaction to any beauty products I've ever used, I don't have especially sensitive skin or allergy problems, and I can't pinpoint which ingredients are causing it. Allergic reactions (including hives) are a possible side-effect of Salicylic acid, apparently a skin-peeling agent, though I've not had the same problem with other products containing it. If the cleanser suits your skin and works for you, that's great, since it does help to reduce blackheads, but definitely test it in small amounts first to see if it agrees with you.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              Not one I would recommend

I have always had problems with my skin, it is either dry or greasy and never smooth and I always get blackheads on my nose, I have tried many things to get rid of them and this is one of the products that I have tried. I bought this from Superdrug but you can get it in other chemists and supermarkets, it costs around £3 for a bottle and a bottle holds 200mls.

The product comes in a purple soft plastic bottle with a darker purple flip top cap which is screwed onto the bottle, on the front of the bottle is the clean and clear logo and then the name of the product underneath. There is a claim that you see results from day one and the statement that this product helps clear and prevent blackheads.

On the rear of the bottle there are claims about the product such as from day 1 it cleans dirt and impurities from the pores, contains blackhead fighting ingredients to stop blackheads coming back, gentle enough for everyday use and leaves skin feeling really clean from day one. The directions to use the product are apply on a cotton wool pad, wipes over face and neck and no need to rinse.

I think this product smells like nail varnish remover and did not like the smell on my face, when using this I made sure I used a string smelling moisturiser afterwards to try and mask the smell a little. The product is easy to use, there is a hole under the flip top lid and the product pours from this onto a cotton wool pad without spillage or clogging. The product feels cold on the skin but is not unpleasant to use, it is absorbed into the skin and the no rinsing means it is quick to use and I don't end up with wet hair around my face whilst trying to rinse the product. I would have to say that I really don't think this made a massive difference, there was some improvement but not enough for me to buy the product again, this may be that my pores on my nose are unfortunately very deep but I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

Blackhead clearing and prevention product that is worth a try

During my teen years I was blessed with a spotless, blackheadless face, I always thought that it was probably because my face was already covered in eczema that whoever the higher power may be did not want to burden me with extra skin conditions to deal with. But as my 16 year long eczema phase began to clear, I found I was no longer exempt from spots and blackheads. When it came to spots I knew the only sure way to clear it was drinking tons of water...and maybe popping it, but this did not help the blackheads much, which is when I went out and bought clean and clear blackhead clearing cleanser.

Now it is not a miracle worker and does not clear within 24 hours as I was hoping, but it works over about a week or so. When I have a blackhead, I apply the cleanser over the area twice a day, and what I've found happens is that it sort of hardens the blackhead rather than remove the goop that creates it, which makes it easier for you to remove, much like popping a zit, easier if you have fingernails.

After the initial blackheads cleared, I started using this a lot more often all over my face, and I rarely get blackheads now which is good. I tend to use it after I've washed my face with water, and then I use skin toner over it, and then a moisturiser. For those with sensitive skin, it does sting a little bit even if you don't have open cuts/rashes/eczema on your face it stings but without redness, if you use it on top of eczema/rash/dry skin it does aggravate it and make it red, so in these circumstances it is advisable to not use it.

The cleanser comes in a plastic bottle, when you open the lid it has a small hole on the top which it pours through no squeezing of bottle is necessary. It is a clear odourless liquid, runny like water. I only use two or three drops for the whole of my face and I apply it with my palm which is the easiest and it also makes it feel cooler than using it with a cotton wool.

Overall this is a product that is worth trying out, though it may not work for everyone. It comes in 200ml and costs around £3 from Boots.

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

It cleans your face and clears your blackheads - what more is needed?!

This was on offer at £2 a bottle so we decided to treat ourselves and our skin for once - we usually hit the cheapo stuff because this kind of cleanser is usually expensive!!

It comes in a clear bottle, with the Clean and Clear label on the front of the bottle and purple liquid inside, opening with a flip-top lid with a small hole from which to drip the contents out. It has a very strong smell to it; I couldn't describe it in any other way than 'slightly alcoholic' but I'm not too sure what it is. It does smell nice though, weirdly enough! It doesn't pour out too much like some others either; the smaller hole than normal prevents this, and also prevents spills when it falls or gets stood on! Tried and tested...

You pour a bit onto a cotton wool pad and then just wipe it around your face, scrubbing in the areas with more blackheads than others. I've found the best time to do this is after a hot shower or after washing your face with some facial scrub with beads in it - your pores are open and ready to be cleaned by the Blackhead Clearing Cleanser then! A word of warning - it will sting! Especially after a shower or scrub, but at least you know the stuff is in your skin and working!

It leaves your skin smelling of its smell, which isn't unpleasant but can be quite strong, and after a few minutes the tingling subsides and your face feels sooo smooth!! You'll see how much crap is on your face after a wipe around too - my cotton pads turn black! Obviously this just shows how much it's working - if it can remove dirt like that, imagine what it's doing to those poor blackheads?!

After a few days there's less to clean out, but I was using the Face Scrub as well as the Cleanser so that may have helped towards actually cleaning my face! The bottle's still half full and we bought it a good two months ago, but we do only use it every 2 or 3 days now; every day for 2 weeks, then every other day, now every 2 or 3 or whenever we feel like it!

My skin feels amazingly soft and the blackheads have certainly gone down quite a bit, and I'm happier for it because now my boyfriend can't sit there and dig holes in my face anymore!

I'd definitely recommend it, and if you're lucky it may still be on offer; it was a couple weeks ago when we went back to Wilkinsons and Morrisons, so maybe worth a look? I'd certainly recommend it anyway, it feels great after the stinging subsides and even better after a good workout and shower!

              Advantages

              Disadvantages

              -

              The promise:

This tongue twister of a cleanser came in a semi-clear container containing 200ml of chemical that claimed to be able to 'start acting against blackheads from day 1'. The cleanser is said to remove the dirt and oil that leads to blackheads and helps to prevent them from re-offending. The cleanser is soothing enough to use every day.

The product is a watery consistency which you apply to a damp piece of cotton wool and wipe around the face, avoiding the eye area.

              What I found:

On opening the bottle I was met by a pungent chemical smell that almost made my eyes smart. I then applied the product to my face, focusing on the T-zone, particularly my nose as that is where I get the most blackheads, and found that the chemical was strongly affecting my eyes.

After using the product, alongside a toner and moisturiser I found that the cleanser was drying my skin out and actually causing more spots to appear, so I stopped using the product and opted for a more creamy cleanser.

I would not recommend this product to anyone with dry skin, or combination (like myself), however those with oily skin may have more luck, it did remove the dirt that it pomised by left my skin far too dry.

Johnson's Clean & Clear, Blackhead Facial Cleanser

                What is it?
                ********
A facial cleanser by Johnson & Johnson.

                Special features?
                **************
This particular facial cleanser is designed for treating blackhead issues. It helps to clear and prevent blackheads. It claims to give results from day 1 (!). It works by removing oil, dirt, and dead cells trapped deep in the pores, the impurities that lead to black heads. The cleanser also contains a blackhead-fighting ingredient to help prevent blackheads from coming back.

                What do I think?
                *************
I suffer from blackheads a lot and this just seem to be perfect for me. But I will say straight away that this was definitely not right for me. It is definitely not suitable for people with sensitive skin and eyes - actually, it's not suitable for anyone's eyes. It's not that I use it on or near my eyes, as this is after all a facial cleanser, so it is routine that I use it on my face only. But this facial cleanser is so volatile and strong that when you start wiping a drenched cotton wool with this on against your face, it really stings your eyes.

With regards to how well it cleans your face. It would be a very good toner as it really strips the skin clean of all residue and I would say that it only helps to clear the blackheads a little. True, the results to show from day one, but there is probably so much alcohol in this cleanser that it isn't really worth waiting to see more results. I would really recommend that this facial cleanser gets reviewed by the manufacturers, as it seems to be so volatile - ok, not as bad as the chemicals that we get in the college labs, but this is still bad enough when it really affects the eyes.

Really would NOT recommend anyone to use this.

                Thanks for reading.

                  Advantages

                  Disadvantages

                  A decent cleanser

I bought this cleanser on my last food shop at Tesco as I had run out of the one I usually use from Boots and decided to see what the supermarket had to offer me.

                  The product:
A blackhead clearing cleanser, designed to remove oil and dirt which leads to blackheads. It's a clear liquid with the consistency of water and you use it by pouring some onto a cotton pad and wiping it on your face. To me the cleanser smells quite chemically. When using it on my nose (where my blackheads are) I find it makes my eyes sting, now the product says not to use near your eye's, but most people have blackheads on their nose and I don't think it's that good if it affects eyes from that distance.

                  The packaging:
This product comes in a see through bottle with a slightly purple tinge to it. On the front is that name and the claim 'results from day one'. On the reverse is some product information, directions and ingredients. The bottle is recyclable and contains 200ml of liquid.

                  Effectiveness:
I've been using this for a week now and I can't say it lives up the the claim of results within a day. Looking in the mirror there's a possibility that I have slightly less blackheads than before, but the difference is not obvious and could be coincidental. I will continue to use it though to see if there's any long term improvement.

                  Conclusion:
This cleanser certainly leaves my face feeling clean and you can see the evidence of the dirt it has removed on the cotton wool pad. I'm still slightly dubious about its black head removing qualities and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone with sensitive skin as I feel it would be a little too strong.

                  Disadvantages

Cleanses skin deep, leaves your skin feeling refreshed and dirt free

I cant remember when I started using this product, or even how I managed without it.

I don't suffer from bad acne or anything, but I do get the odd spot and my skin can feel really dull and rough if I dont drink enough water or have a night out. I do get a few blackheads, which I sometimes feel a bit consious about.

I use a cotton pad to glide this product over my skin every morning, after a wash and before applying moisturiser. I simply cannot live without it, and I never let myself run out. It leaves my skin feeling completely clean and dirt free and it really wakes my skin up. I sometimes use it before bed, if I get a bit of an outbreak of a few spots, and they die down by the morning.

I have tried changing to a couple of other cleansers, but I always come back to this one. I would recommend it to anyone with normal skin, prone to the odd spot or two. There is also a sensitive version for those with sensitive skin. I sometimes buy this, and dont feel there is much of a difference.

                  adverage

Apparently this product is meant to work after weeks of use. To be honest, I couldn't use it more than a few days before I give up. Every time I think I'll give it another go I always regret it. The cleanser reminds me of nail varnish remover as it is being applied to my skin but does smell of tea tree oil which I know is good for spots and smells pleasent. However, I havn't seen a change in my blackheads but only the dryness of my skin. I'm not sure if it's even meant to show oil or grease on the cotton pad but I don't ever see any residue. Even in the morning after a late night application, it is so obvious on my skin that when I apply makeup it looks like I have scales!! Perhaps I have sensitive skin, but have never come across another product that has the effect or any like it. My sister does not get such dry skin after useage, however does feel it does SLIGHTLY help which shows that it really does just depend on the person. Not for everybody.
