I recently needed a new face wash and, having no real brand loyalty, was browsing in my local supermarket when I found this as part of a 2 for £5 offer. I have never used Clean and Clear products in the past but as it retails at £3.99 or so usually I was happy to try it out alongside another product in the range to take advantage of the special offer.
I have just checked the Boots website and the 2 for £5 offer is running on there also.
Cleans, brightens and energises
This product promises to remove dirt, oil and impurities, and also to energise and brighten skin. It is uniquely formulated with papaya and lemon extracts.
This comes in a 150ml tube that is bright yellow in colour. The face scrub itself has quite a thick gel texture, and is full of tiny bits that look white in the slightly orangey coloured gel. Also in the scrub are larger orange 'beads' that burst when pressure is applied to them.
Smooths the skin
This face scrub has a very gentle but pleasant citrus fragrance. This isn't overpowering and is actually nice and fresh, and the perfect zingy scent for first thing in the morning. The first time I applied this to my face I realised that I didn't need very much of the product as it spreads nice and easily, and feels slightly creamy on the skin, despite its gel-like texture. It is really pleasant to apply, and although this is described as a scrub it is extremely gentle and doesn't have the slight scratchiness that other scrubs can have. In fact this is gentle enough for daily use.
This washes off easily, and it instantly leaves my skin feeling fresh and smooth. It also gives my face a slightly tingly feeling which is actually quite pleasant!
After drying off, again I was very pleased with how smooth my skin felt. However after a minute or two I did get a slightly 'tight' feeling, but this disappeared as soon as I applied my usual moisturiser. I can't say I noticed any real brightening effect but my skin did look clean and fresh.
Overall, I really like this face scrub, and as I got this as part of an offer I would say it's excellent value. It smells nice and fresh, and makes my skin feel clean and smooth. I can't really find any faults with it - except that it is perhaps slightly overpriced at full price - so I am going to give it the full five stars.
Thanks for reading!
In the past I purchased Clean & Clear's original morning burst formula and was thrilled with its bursting beads. As advertised they really woke me up and gave me an invigorating start to the day. After using the original product my skin felt exfoliated, cleansed and soft. On occasion I would also use it in the evenings if I felt tired and needed a boost.
This product is also called morning burst but is followed with "skin brightening facial scrub" and comes in yellow packaging as opposed to the originals orange. The bottle is quite large and contains 141 g of product which is great value for money. I've been using this product daily for a month and it seems to me that it would last the average user around 1.5 to 2 months. One squirt of the product is normally sufficient as you wet your face before applying it and so it lathers easily.
Upon trying this product I found there were less exfoliating and bursting beads than in the original product. I also believe the beads in this product are far smaller than in the original and perhaps that is why I find them unnoticeable and ineffective. I seriously don't notice them at all whereas with the original product they were my favourite aspect and the reason I went back to the same product time and time again.
I love the smell of this product and find it helps me feel alert and awake, not as invigorated as with the bursting beads in the original product though. According to the packaging it contains caffeine (hence the alertness), lemon (explains the citrus smell) and papaya (the sweet smell of the papaya is just as noticable as the lemon).
Claims: (on the packaging)
Now to assess the products main claim does it effectively brighten skin? Well it certainly worked for me. After a few days use my skin had a healthy glow and looked visibly brighter. My skin looked natural just more radiant. I've been using this product for around a month now and continue to see results.
The packaging also promises that the product won't clog pores. I agree with this statement this product also works as an exfoliant and cleanser and my pores feel cleaner and tighter after application. I recommend this product as a cleanser and exfoliant. Firstly it's gentle but I still like how you can feel the product is doing its job. The consistency is perfect, not too runny. Secondly it successfully removes make up without much effort. It's a simple quick product to use before applying moisturiser.
I like this product but not for the reasons I brought it. Unfortunately the bursting beads were disappointing however if you're looking for a multipurpose product that brightens you skin, exfoliates and cleanses then perhaps consider this product. Personally I'll be purchasing the original morning burst bottle next time (orange) as I really love its bursting beads.
One thing I always use in my beauty regime each morning is a facial wash, preferably with some form of gentle, every-day scrub or exfoliating capabilities.
I'd tried another scrub from the same range as this, Clean & Clear's Morning Energy range, and found it pretty agreeable. However, when I saw the range on offer again I decided to try a different product from it, and picked up a bottle of this, the Skin Brightening Daily Facial Scrub.
The product comes in a partially see-through yellow stand-up squeezy bottle with the flip-top at the bottom so you don't waste any product. The packaging claims that it is oil-free (bonus for me), has bursting beads, gently exfoliates for visibly brighter skin, and that it contains lemon and papaya extracts.
So, was it any good?
First of all let's look at the product itself. It dispenses in a slightly thick, mostly see-through gel but unlike it's sister product that I tried, this is not runny and it also has a shimmering iridescent quality running throughout, slightly golden in colour. In amongst this you see the bursting beads which are yellow, and also some others that are a green shade.
I found this product lasted well, and did not drip out of the bottle without a slight squeeze like that one I tried before.
One of the reasons I selected this is that it claimed to "brighten" the skin. In my experience products that claim this either do nothing, leave glitter on your skin or soak you in oil. This is no exception - but the shimmery ingredients do not stick to your skin and make you look like a teenager at a disco, nor does this make your skin oily (as you would hope with an oil-free product). So I must mark it down for not delivering on that promise.
However, I did find it to be effective as both a cleanser and an exfoliator. It didn't dry my skin out to the degree that it felt tight, but I did feel that it was effective at cleansing.
On dispensing the gel I was met with a citrusy, fruity scent which, whilst obviously quite clinical if you think about it, wasn't overly unpleasant and if you're just using it to wash and go of a morning without thinking too deeply (and let's face it, sometimes we do when reviewing things!), then this is perfectly pleasant and an invigorating start to the morning - I don't feel that the scent stayed on my skin.
The product, when combined with moisturiser after my bath, provided me with skin well primed for make up and also my usual gradual shine did not develop with as much evidence as it usually does throughout the day.
This retail at £3.99 for 150ml; this has lasted me about a month with daily use, occasionally more if I want to wash and change my make up before going out of an evening.
However, this range seems to frequently be on offer as I picked up this and two others on different occasions on discount prices, so it's worth shopping around.
I have to say I like this; I far prefer it to the Shine Control version, which I found had a strangely weak consistency and dried my skin out immediately after use. I find the scent of this much more enjoyable and whilst it does have this shimmery quality to it, this doesn't transfer to my complexion. I can't give it credit for "brightening" my complexion - I can only assume that's the idea behind the iridescence, in which case it doesn't work - so a star goes there, but this is a strong facial wash and it exfoliates my skin on a daily basis without causing irritation, meaning that it is primable for makeup with the application of a moisturising product. In short, it is a high street facial exfoliating wash that works, with a lovely zesty lemony citrus scent that will help wake you up in the morning.
