Although I'm not the girliest of girls, and have written most of my reviews about video games, I do suffer from oily skin, and as a result end up with quite a few spots.
I one day decided to do something about it, and searched around Boots for some kind of cheap, effective treatment to use. I picked up this Clearasil Ultra Treatment Wash for a seemingly good price.
I took it home and used it that same night. Straight away I felt my face tingling. Once I washed it off, my face felt incredibly dry and tight, which is a usual effect from spot treatments.
I repeated this process once a day for the next few days, and made sure I moisturised too so that my face wouldn't get too dry. However, this stuff had a really nasty effect on my skin. After just three days, my skin started flaking and drying up really badly. No amount of moisturiser could help! It felt horrible and was obviously not very attractive...
I immediately stopped using the stuff, as my skin was obviously too sensitive for it. I regret ever using it as it dried my skin out so badly that I now have very slight, permanent darkening of the skin around my nose. Hardly noticeable, but some people do point it out.
This stuff was terrible. It doesn't even deserve a star in my opinion. I don't know if it has worked well for others, but the bottle should really stress that it is not to be used on sensitive skin.
I now use Witch Facial Scrub, which I must say is a diamond.
1/10 for Clearasil
I wanted something stronger on my face recently compared to my usual toner, as my spot breakouts were worse than usual. I turned to the Clearasil range and spotted this one for £5.18 and decided to give it a go, as the packaging states I will have visibly clearer skin in just 3 days.
I must point out the picture on DooYoo must now be old, it's no longer a pump action bottle, but a bottle with a flip lid on and you simply tip it upside down onto some cotton wool to get the lotion out. However the design it still the same. It boldly states 'Gets To Work Instantly' in bolt of flashing light across the front, and the words 'dual action, fights spots and reduces redness! Visibly clearer skin in just 3 days!' Needless to say these words inevitably won me over, and I was hoping they would be true to their word.
It instructs you to use this in the morning anhd evening, and I will have clearer skin in 3 days. So I began using it straight away, applying some to cotton wool and wiping it onto my face in the same way I would with any cleanser. I began to notice a 'difference' to my skin after using it only 3 times...
My skin became extremely dry and stripped of all it's natural oils. I have very oily skin but it's very bad for your skin to strip it altogether! Straight away I had to chuck on lots of moisturiser to make it feel half decent, but my skin felt terrible. As I was only 1.5 days in, I decided to persevere with it as it promises clearer skin within 3 days.
By day 3 I had to stop using it. My face was ever so slightly puffing up and inflamed! I had huge bags under my eyes because it had made my cheeks puff up, I looked terrible, as if I hadn't slept at all. My skin was dry and felt awful, I had to stop using any face products apart from my Lush moisturiser and wait for my face to get back to normal.
I should point out now I've never ever had any problems with face products before, and trust me, alot of awful things have been thrown on my face due to it's oily and blemish prone condition. My skin quite happily accepts peroxide cream (found in behind-the-counter spot treatments) and never before has my face slightly puffed up like this.
I read the ingredients straight away and discovered it contains Alcohol. Alcohol is not good for the skin, and products containing it should really be avoided. I'm wondering if this is what caused the problems.
On the plus side my face was slightly clearer... but it felt terrible. As my face started getting back to normal I broke out in some spots. So this is what this treatment lotion does, it dries out your skin completely, stripping it of all oils, and then the spots come back worse than before!
I now use this stuff only every now and then, if I use it 3 times in a row I start to notice some inflammation and redness happening again, however using it once every other day doesn't have a big affect and helps keep the skin clear. Once I have finished this bottle it's safe to say I won't be buying another one.
If you care for the condition of your skin, then avoid this one! It dries out your skin completely, and the spots only come back much worse than before because of this. I recommend looking for a toner that doesn't contain alcohol, instead of opting for this one.
I have been using this for a long time and it has done an excellent job and is a lot nicer to use than the previous pads I tried. It doesn't completely burn your face off and it does help to prevent and get rid of spots forming within 3 days. It comes in a 200ml container and costs around £4.30, which isn't cheap but it works very well and lasts quite a long time.
The product is part of the Clearasil Ultra range. The label on the front is shiny pink and blue with the Clearasil Ultra logo at the top. The bottle is otherwise transparent so you can see through to a somewhat mystical bright blue liquid. The cap is white and blue, which looks good and there is a simple dispenser on the top, which is activated once you turn it.
The liquid comes out onto your hand as a blue liquid and you should rub it in between wet hands to create foam. It smells quite nice and fresh. You apply it all over your face and leave it for a minute or two to soak in. It gives a very slight fiery sensation to your face, but by no means does this one hurt! Instead, it makes you feel fresh and as if it's actually doing something.
It works really well and should be used once or twice a day for 3 days to get rid of any spots. You should really use it everyday to prevent spots appearing too. It does work, which is great but it comes at a price! It has a pretty nice smell and is very easy to use so I'd recommend it.
Thanks for reading,
I will start by saying that although I have had a great experience with this product please note that everyone's skin is different and what may help one person may not help another, I can only however give the benefit of my own opinion about this product.
We've all seen them. Those ads on TV where teenagers with a single spot on their faces rave about the latest skincare product and how they pulled the opposite sex by using it. Well they have one part right, having spots or acne can be a major blow to a person's confidence. I'm sure you have heard or said yourself, they would look good, if they didn't have so many spots. Some people really struggle with the problem and it can really get them down.
As a teenager I used to use the Body Shops Tea Tree Oil, which wasn't too bad a product. However for whatever reason, whether it was a bad diet or simply hormones eventually the few spots that appeared every now and then became acne. This is where I started to panic, chopping and changing to different face washes, which by the way makes things worse. I tried Freederm, more tea tree oil products, witch hazel, Neutrogena, Aloe Vera products until eventually I consulted a doctor.
Now a lot of people I have spoken too do advise going to the doctor and received the same roll on product that I did. I have to say it did a great job of clearing up my skin and it took about 2 months, however for me it wasn't clear enough. So I was put on antibiotics and from there it went downhill. The problem with the medication is it literally brings up all the crap under your skin to the surface, it really is a deep cleanse. I couldn't deal with the state of my skin and I took myself off the medication, now stuck with what to do.
So we are always being bombarded with those awful Clearasil adverts that guarantee clear skin and I think the reason I never tried it is because the ads are so corny. However I had nothing to lose and finally purchased Clearasil Ultra. The difference between the normal face wash and the ultra one is this holds the promise of "visibly clearer skin in just 3 days". The "deep pore treatment wash" is supposed to fight the spots and remove the redness. An I have to say, wow! What a product!
Within three days my skin was so much clearer and new spots weren't coming up. Other products like Freederm just turned all spots into big whiteheads, which made it look like someone had just dotted tipex all over my face. Clearasil worked fast to reduce the size of the spot, and redness until it vanished from my face without leaving the horrible marks you get from desperately trying to pop them yourself. After a month of usage my face was how I wanted it to be :)
The good thing about Clearasil is that at least in my own case it worked very well to get rid of my spots and stop them coming up and I finally was happy with my skin, making me a more confident person. The bottle looks great; it's transparent and contains a blue gel-like liquid in a 200ml container with the Clearasil logo at the top. The bottle works just like a soap dispenser and you only need to press it once to get just the right amount of liquid. It has all the instructions you need on the back and take heed when it says to avoid the eye area because it really does sting!
The bad thing is that the product feels very strong and after using it your face feels extremely dry so you should always moisturize your skin with a good cream afterwards. As a guy I'm not sure if that's a standard thing but it needs to be with this product. The fact that the Clearasil is so strong does make me feel reluctant to use it twice a day as I don't want to keep drying out my skin so much but then if you don't use it often enough it won't keep spots away and you will have to use it intensively for another three days to clear your skin up again.
The product is usually around the £4.29 price mark, I always visit both Superdrug and Boots to see if they have any 3 for 2 deals and although it seems expensive it is lasts at least over a month because the liquid dispenser gives you just the right amount needed.
I do recommend this product to people who suffer badly from acne and haven't yet tried it; I very much doubt it will make the problem worse. I wouldn't recommend it to those with just a few spots and suggest they use the ordinary Clearasil and it's definitely not for people who suffer from dry skin. There is a Clearasil sensitive option for anyone with this problem.
I started using this along with the face scrub and toner a couple of months ago after my old treatments didn't seem to be working anymore and I must say I'm really impressed!
I use this ever other day when I have a bath along with the face scrub, and the toner every morning and night, and I have found that problem areas on my face have disappeared.
I did have a problem with blemished along my jaw line, but these haven't appeared since using this.
I like the pump action bottle, it means it doesn't leak and can just be thrown back into my bathroom draws.
I think the price is fantastic when you realise how much you get and how long it lasts. I use two pumps each time and that's more than enough for the face and neck, as well as the chest.
It goes on as a gel, but then turns into a light foam. The smell is really nice and invigorating, and really feels like you are clean!
Afterwards, my face is VERY smooth and feels extremely clean.
The only drawback I must mention is that the aroma is sometimes too much and stings my eyes, even though I don't use it near my eyes!
Overall, I love this cleansers and will continue using it along with the rest of the range.
I found this to be the best product to get rid of spots and leave you with a lovely smooth and fresh face. The product definitely does the job and is pleasant to use with a satisfying aroma and foamy texture.
It is very easy to use. You simply press down the top and, just like a soap dispenser, the liquid comes through onto your hand. One full push should be plenty for a wash. I do not think this product is to be used anywhere but your face, so stick to this just in case.
Once on your hands, give it a good scrub to build up a foamy texture. You apply this to your face, rubbing it in well. Leave it for a minute and try not to rinse any off, so it can get to work. After, rinse it off with warm water and wait for brilliant results. The product mentions that you should have a clean face within 3 days. It is from the ultra range, which is the most effective.
Whilst using the product, I loved the smell and found it easy as ever to use. One thing that is a drawback is the fact this product is at a hefty price of £4.29. This is pretty expensive, considering this wash may last under a month if you use it in the morning and at night. For this money, you get a 200ml container, which isn't a great amount but should last you a while. The more important factor is that it does the job, and it certainly does!
Thanks for reading,
Well, after my very painful and burning of my face with the Clearasil Ultra Treatment pads that were full of alcohol and acids, I went out to find something better. Straight when I saw this liquid wash, I knew although it was in the same range, it couldn't possibly burn my face at all. I was right. It has a lovely smell, very sweet and is smooth and invigorating to use and does an excellent job.
It comes in a 200ml container, which is transparent. There is a label on the front, which is shiny blue and purple with the Clearasil Ultra logo at the top. Below, it says that it is a deep pore treatment wash. It also mentions that it will give you visibly clearer skin within 3 days of using it. Turning it around, there is another label. This features what the product does, so you can see if this product is suitable for you. It also gives an explanation of how it works and what it does. Other information on the back includes the contact address, website (www.clearasil.com) and contact details. This product is clinically proven with the logo on the back, and I approve of it too. The back label can be peeled away to reveal more information on the product including the ingredients
On the top is a lid with a button on top like a soap dispenser - it is a dispenser really. The white button is simply pressed easily to apply a small amount to your hands. This is easy to use, and works perfectly and quickly by a simple press, rather than un screwing anything or opening a lid, and squeezing out the stuff.
As for the gel itself, it has a thick texture to start with, but mine has been in the shower the whole time, so water has got in to it. If you don't wish this to happen, then place it away from the shower. The liquid has a light turquoise colour to it, and is translucent (you can partially see through it). It has no visible particles in it like some facial wash products may have, which are said to be good for your skin. However, it definitely contains all the ingredients needed to do the job well and smoothly.
It has a gorgeous smell to it. The ingredients state that it is perfumed, so this is perhaps where the smell comes from. It has a very sweet smell and relaxing smell to it, making it a pleasure to use and I have become increasingly addicted to the smell when it's applied to my face.
To use, twist the top button to unlock it. Now, apply a small amount to wet hands by pressing down on the button. Rub your hands together thoroughly to make sure it is all bubbly like a foam. It is best to apply it to a wet face as well, so apply it and massage it in rubbing in small circles, being careful of the eye area. Leave it to soak in for 30 seconds, it won't take long. Once done, rinse off with warm water and dry your face.
It is a pleasure to use because of it's lovely smell and pleasant texture. It does give your face a slight stinging sensation, but this is just the product at work. It is no where near as bad as the treatment pads that I used, which contained alcohol and literally burnt my face off... This product contains no alcohol, but it does contain the acids and other chemicals to do the job. The stinging sensation makes you feel invigorated and refreshed at the same time, so it is great for morning use to wake you up. You should use this twice a day to keep spots away and for quickest relief of spots - once in the morning and once in the evening. I find it best to use it when I shower in the evening and have a wash in the morning.
In most supermarkets and pharmacies, you can buy this product for £4.29. It comes in a 200ml container, and lasts a good duration. Mine has lasted me over a month already, and I have been using it on quite a regular basis (not every day though, because I haven't needed it). If you want to prevent spots rather than make them go, then it works well as it will act immediately on bacteria where spots start to form. The price isn't bad, as it works very well and is easy and pleasant to use compared to other products.
I would recommend this product to people, but do expect a slight sting when you apply it to your face. Keep your eyes tightly shut, as you wouldn't want this in your eye. It is very easy to use by simply pressing down on the dispenser to apply a small amount to wet hands. It has an adorable sweet scent to it, which makes it a delight when applied to your face. It leaves you not only with great skin, but feeling invigorated and refreshed and it really wakes you up in the mornings when used!
