Advantages: Well it DOES clear the skin... at a cost!

Disadvantages: Dries out your skin completely and strips it, as well as causing redness and inflammation.

I wanted something stronger on my face recently compared to my usual toner, as my spot breakouts were worse than usual. I turned to the Clearasil range and spotted this one for £5.18 and decided to give it a go, as the packaging states I will have visibly clearer skin in just 3 days.

I must point out the picture on DooYoo must now be old, it's no longer a pump action bottle, but a bottle with a flip lid on and you simply tip it upside down onto some cotton wool to get the lotion out. However the design it still the same. It boldly states 'Gets To Work Instantly' in bolt of flashing light across the front, and the words 'dual action, fights spots and reduces redness! Visibly clearer skin in just 3 days!' Needless to say these words inevitably won me over, and I was hoping they would be true to their word.

It instructs you to use this in the morning anhd evening, and I will have clearer skin in 3 days. So I began using it straight away, applying some to cotton wool and wiping it onto my face in the same way I would with any cleanser. I began to notice a 'difference' to my skin after using it only 3 times...

My skin became extremely dry and stripped of all it's natural oils. I have very oily skin but it's very bad for your skin to strip it altogether! Straight away I had to chuck on lots of moisturiser to make it feel half decent, but my skin felt terrible. As I was only 1.5 days in, I decided to persevere with it as it promises clearer skin within 3 days.

By day 3 I had to stop using it. My face was ever so slightly puffing up and inflamed! I had huge bags under my eyes because it had made my cheeks puff up, I looked terrible, as if I hadn't slept at all. My skin was dry and felt awful, I had to stop using any face products apart from my Lush moisturiser and wait for my face to get back to normal.

I should point out now I've never ever had any problems with face products before, and trust me, alot of awful things have been thrown on my face due to it's oily and blemish prone condition. My skin quite happily accepts peroxide cream (found in behind-the-counter spot treatments) and never before has my face slightly puffed up like this.
I read the ingredients straight away and discovered it contains Alcohol. Alcohol is not good for the skin, and products containing it should really be avoided. I'm wondering if this is what caused the problems.

On the plus side my face was slightly clearer... but it felt terrible. As my face started getting back to normal I broke out in some spots. So this is what this treatment lotion does, it dries out your skin completely, stripping it of all oils, and then the spots come back worse than before!

I now use this stuff only every now and then, if I use it 3 times in a row I start to notice some inflammation and redness happening again, however using it once every other day doesn't have a big affect and helps keep the skin clear. Once I have finished this bottle it's safe to say I won't be buying another one.

If you care for the condition of your skin, then avoid this one! It dries out your skin completely, and the spots only come back much worse than before because of this. I recommend looking for a toner that doesn't contain alcohol, instead of opting for this one.

Summary: This pore treatment lotion is not something to be used on your face if you care for your skin.
