I have used the anti-blemish 3 step skin routine from Clinique for years so i feel i can give a good, honest review about this system. I started using this product when i was 18- as this was when i started to suffer from blemish and acne prone skin and i felt like the products i was buying off the high street weren't doing anything and i wanted to try a more premium brand.
Firstly the cleanser, which you can buy in a bar of soap or as a foam cleanser. The foam cleanser is pretty good, it really lathers up so your face does feel squeaky clean after using it. However, i found that using the bar (even though it's old fashioned) it can lather up just as well and it will last you a lot longer!
Secondly the toner/clarifying lotion, is probably the big downside to the product. A lot of people i know who have used this lotion describe it as 'paint stripper'! it is VERY strong- you do not need to use a lot of this- strong alcohol base.
Thirdly the anti blemish loition- which i actually found quite useful- it's not thick and heavy yet your skin will moisturised and won't feel like it's drying out your skin like the clarifying lotion does.
Although what i will say is this range does smell and have a lot of chemical ingredients in it- it WILL help clear up your spots- but i found that if i switched to something else i would break out again. I did use this product for YEARS and it's a lot better than most spot products on the market, but as i got older i found my skin needed different products and i switched to Dermalogica.
I have suffered from acne all my adult life and tried numerous things to get rid of it. This is one of those things that is ok, but not miraculous.
I started using it in the hopes of getting my skin to look it's best for my wedding in a few months time. I was reluctant because I think spending £25 on something to wash and moisturise your face for a month is just silly. But my Mum persuaded me to talk to the lady at the counter, of course she gave me her best sales patter that this system was what was missing from my skin care routine all these years and I have a hard time saying no....so I went for it.
I didn't find that it stopped me getting spots, it did however leave my skin feeling smooth, clean and moisturised. The first step is the foaming cleanser (this can also be used as a make up remover which is handy) This felt mild and gentle on the skin. Next is the clarifying lotion which you sweep over with a cotton pad, this can tingle a bit but I just take this to mean it's clearing out the pores which is a good thing!
Then the moisturiser to finish. I can't fault the science behind the system in terms of the ingredients fighting the things that contribute to acne and I think it could be a good tool in helping to clear you up. But acne is complex and takes some trial and error to find out what works for you. If you can afford it I would say give it a go! But if it will be a stretch for your finances, I would say consider other less expensive skin care to see if that works first
Clinique 3 Step System Personal Review
Skin Type: Sensitive, Combination (Dry/Oily)
Acne: Moderate to Severe
-My skin has always been super sensitive especially when it comes to acne medications. I had tried everything from drug-store medications to numerous Dermatologist prescribed creams and lotions. Although everything broke me out worse due to my skin type; Until I began using Clinique 3 Step System which is allergen tested and for sensitive skin . It is some what pricey for the size, but it is great for anyone who is trying something new and does not want to send money on buying the larger bottles. The larger bottles bought separate last longer and are cheaper in the long run. At first when I began using this system my skin began to break out worse, although the Clinique booth associate told me this was normal , as the medication brings everything to the top of your skin, to cleanse the deeper layers of skin as well as the surface. After about two weeks my skin began to become clearer and clearer every day. My skin was very clear although I would have a small break out every once in a while, which would be gone in no longer than a day or two. After using the system about a year my skin became used to the medication and stopped working. I suggest if you plan to use this product to use it for only a couple months at a time and then allowing your skin time off. This will ensure that your skin will not get to used to the medication.
I have very oil and spot prone skin. I was given these as a gift and they have worked so well I have since purchased them for myself. The cleanser is a foam one and leaves the skin feeling really clean but isn't harsh. It doesn't completely strip the skin and I don't get that tight feeling. The bottle also has a pump which I like. The toner is very refreshing and again doesn't strip my skin. It really helps to remove any remaining oil/make up/dirt. The moisturiser leaves my skin matt and smooth, a perfect base for applying make up. This has cleared my skin up a lot. I probably don't really need to use it any more but I continue to as I love how my skin is using it. I do think it is quite on the pricey side but in my opinion it's worth it Also, I have extremely sensitive skin and I am fine with this.
I have blemish-prone, oily skin which I haven't yet managed to control and so I thought I'd give the Clinique 3-step system a go. This, unsurprisingly, consists of three steps:
1. The cleansing foam. This comes in a pump-action bottle. I liked the bottle, as it was easy to dispense the foam, and also minimises waste by preventing too much from being dispensed. The foam was light and easy to apply and rinse off my face, and made my face feel like it had been gently cleansed - probably much better for my skin than harsher cleansers.
2. The toner. I applied this to my skin and it stung and just felt really harsh. It made my skin feel really dry. I was unimpressed with this step as my skin gets on much better with gentler cleansers - this toner made me feel like everything being stripped from my skin
3. The moisturiser. This applied and absorbed quite easily but it left my skin looking a bit greasy and oily. It was a bit too thick and heavy for my skin - I felt it would be more suited to drier skins.
I kept up the 3-step regime for a month but after this time my skin had not improved - it was no worse, but had definitely not got any better. I think that the toner is way too harsh for sensitive skins, and the moisturiser felt too heavy for greasy skin. Surprising considering this is meant to be an 'anti blemish' solution! I didn't feel this was worth the money for me.
I used to suffer from oily skin and as a typical teenager quite a few spots. I didn't have bad acne, so I'm not sure how effective the Clinique 3 step kit would be for that. However for the average spotty teen this stuff is great!
Step one is a cleanser which you can get either a pump which produces quite a bubbly mixture, or a hard soap. Personally I preferred the hard soap as it always left my face feeling cleaner, however you'll need to use an eye makeup remover first for it to be fully effective. The cleanser is good and the hard soap lasts a very long time, a couple of months easily. I found the pump doesn't last that long, so I don't think it justifies the price as much.
Step two is a toner. For the first few days this stung slightly to use which I was warned about, but after that it was perfectly comfortable to use, and it worked well, leaving my skin clean and fresh.
Step three is the moisturiser, which I really liked because it wasn't too thick, making it easy to apply in small amounts and hence avoid that greasy feeling when you've used too much moisturiser.
In all, I think the 3 step solution is very good. At first you may not notice a difference or your skin may even get worse, but this should be expected. After a few weeks you should begin to notice a visible and physical improvement in your skin. After getting this set I ended up getting compliments about my skin throughout my school years.
I no longer use this solution set as I have moved on to a less harsh routine, which I prefer and find works well for me. However I cannot say that this solution would have worked so well during those spotty years, and so the anti blemish solutions may be your best bet!
I have had problems with my skin since I hit puberty and have tried absolutely everything under the sun to sort it out, even seeing a dermatologist. Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions are absolutely amazing, and are the only thing that have worked for me that was not prescribed.
The Foam is great you can use it as many times a day as you wish, I tend to use it morning and night, it removes make-up and makes your face feel fresh and clean although it has a very plain smell. I team the foam with the Clarifying Lotion at night, and it also works a treat (I find the best results when I use them together), although it has a slightly medicinal smell, but how well it works definitely makes up for the smell! The Moisturiser however I didn't think was that great, I used all three products together every night for a while and the moisturiser ran out first, so I didn't buy a new one straight away and continued using the other products - and did not notice a difference. The moisturiser also has an even more medicinal smell which I did not like at all.
On the whole I think this system is fantastic, although I would advise buying the products individually, and leaving out the moisturiser.
Having had bad skin for most of my adult life, I was a bit dubious when I was given a sample of products from Clinique after I brought some anti-blemish foundation. However after a few days of using them I found that my skin had really cleared up and looked completely different!
The products all have a slightly alcohol smell and made my skin tingle slightly, however they did not cause an allergic reaction (and I have quite sensitive skin on my face). Before using these products I found that by the middle of the day my skin was quite shiny but after using these, my skin had a more matte effect. I was so impressed that I went out and brought all three steps in full size. The other benefit is that they last ages, even the samples lasted almost a month and I was using them twice a day.
I would recommend using them all together as after a couple of weeks you will notice a real difference.
I love clinique products and have used them for years so when this came out I was even more impressed. I suffer with really bad blemish prone skin and have scarring from it to, but I have found that this range clears up my skin better than anything else I have tried. It does work best if you use all three steps but each product is good on its own. Although clinique's prices are quite high, it is worth it. The products don't dry your skin out, which in fact can make spots worse, and your skin always feels nic and fresh after uses. It is good in that it clears up blemishes but also prevents your skin from clogging up so I have found breakouts are less frequent, and on the odd occassion when they do happen, they are not as bad. In general I am really pleased with it, it has been brilliant for me and I would highly reccommend!
In another desperate attempt to clear my face of blemish's looking around house of frashers clinique ranger I spotted this Anti-Blemish Solutions 3-Step System, I'm very sceptical about products like this as they mainly just a scam to get your money from you and looking at the price I thought this was exactly it! This being a massive £30. you get three products for this, all adding up to 180ml, which is not a lot at all when considering the price.
So going home without this product to look up some reviews online, they said they all saw massive results within the first few days of using this, but it really made me wonder if it would help mine because it's really bad, so I went back and purchased this set.
The redness went down within 5-6 days of using this, but the full sized bottles we're not very big at all! making them last only 2 weeks when using them twice a day, so I only got them once, because in this 2 weeks it never solved my problem at all, it just made it less red, and after i've stopped using it it's all flared back up again, so if they had fully gone when taking a full course of this, I would probably have to start using this forever son they don't come back, and i'm not prepared to spend £30 every two weeks for a product that doesn't fully work.
The moisturiser in this isn't oil based but also doesn't prevent natural oils coming through so this isn't helpful at all.
I had the unfortunate pleasure of having spotty and sensitive skin when I was younger and so I was bought this Clinique pack by a friend to see if it would help (she was an avid Clinique user). I was delighted to receive this and thought that the nice, simple design on the bottles looked fab in my bathroom.
The 3-step system is basically cleanse, tone and moisturise, which is nothing new....that's what my mum taught me to do. But Clinique have marketed this fantastically so everyone thinks they are getting something amazing and new, that is a revolutionary system designed by Clinique.
The first step is a foaming cleanser, that comes from the bottle with a pump action top. You wet your face and put two pumps in your hand and work it in, then you rinse. It feels refreshing and is a nice way to start the day. The only problem with this product is that there isn't enough of it in the 50ml bottle compared to the other products in the system, it ran out when I still had a third of a bottle of the clarifying lotion.
The second step is the clarifying lotion (which is basically a toner), that comes in a 100ml. You use this with some cotton wool and sweep it across your face. I did find that this seemed to brighten my face at first, but then as it dried I found my face dried out with it.
The final step is the Clearing Moisturiser, 30ml, which soaked into my skin easily and quickly and didn't cause my skin to be greasy or shiny. So that is a thumbs up for this product.
I have stopped using this after I went to replace this kit and it was retailing at £30 or £50 for the bigger bottles. I find that pretty expensive by anyones standards and have gone back to my budget cleansing system. Having said that it did clear my spots, but I felt like the clarifiyiny lotion was stripping my skin and it did make it dry, so perhaps it was too harsh for me.
I bought this pack about a year ago to see if it really did live up to the hype. At around £30 it is expensive so I would recommend buying the full sized products instead as whilst this does increase the price to around £50 for all three, they are much better value for money as they last for around 4-6 months depending on the product, whilst the starter pack lasts for closer to a month.
However the products themselves really do work. Do not expect to see immediate results - this isn't a miracle working product, also you do need to stick to using all three steps everyday. After using the product for about 9 months (the full size products after finishing the starter pack) I have seen a noticeable difference in my skin and whilst I do still get a few spots these are nothing compared to how my skin was before. But the pack itself will not be enough to achieve these results, as the products do not last for long enough.
It is worth mentioning that if the product has not had the advertised affect on your skin Clinique do have a policy that you can take them back and get a refund, although I have not had to do this so don't know how easy it is to take advantage of this policy. But it does mean that if you are unhappy with the results then it isn't £30 down the drain.
As a teenager I suffered with mild acne mostly across my forehead and strangely on my chest too and I found that very few skin care creams and treatments could do anything to help it. It seemed to me that spots were something I would simply have to put up with and that no product in the world could honestly help with spots. But before I gave up hope completely, I thought I'd have one last attempt at healing my skin with the Clinique 3-Step System.
Clinique is one of my favourite Beauty brands and I've used a number of their products and I've always been very pleased with them, Clinique products have been present in my beauty regime for a while actually so I had high hopes when trying this new product and I was optimistic that I would have as much success with this system as I had with other Clinique products. My skin was starting to really get me down too so I was also praying that this would help me at least a little bit!
The set comes with 3 different products which are ;
Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam 50ml
Clarifying Lotion 100ml
Clearing Moisturiser 30ml
The sizes of the products are designed to last 4 weeks (and in that time the problem is hopefully dramatically reduced) the set does cost £30 in most stores which I think is quite expensive, especially since it is only going to last 1 month, but I was desperate and I knew that Clinique was of high quality. But on the plus side, this set had my whole Beauty regime sorted since I could Cleanse, Exfoliate and Moisturise with these 3 products.
The first step in this system is to cleanse your face (and chest in my case) with the Cleansing Foam and I was really pleased with the results of this cleanser. I needed to use only a tiny amount of it and it lathered really well and got my face really soapy, it also smelt really clean and not chemically at all. After cleansing with this I really felt as though I'd had a deep clean and I was as fresh as a daisy and ready for step 2!
Step 2 is to Exfoliate with the Clarifying lotion, I did this by applying a small amount of the lotion on a cotton wool ball and sweeping it all over my face and I could see the results of everything it had removed on the cotton wool, so as if my face didn't feel fantastically clean already it was now cleaner than ever! The lotion was very gentle too and didn't sting my skin, it didn't smell as nice as the Cleansing Foam though and had a little bit more of a chemically scent to it.
Step 3 is to Moisturise with the Clearing Moisturiser and I loved this stuff because it felt so rich and smooth and it didn't leave my skin feeling greasy or shiny at all. I sometimes get dry patches on my nose and cheeks and this worked wonders on those areas.
So far so good, all 3 products were pleasant to use and left me feeling incredibly clean and fresh, so all I had to do now was keep up with the regime and wait for the results. Within only a few days I could see a difference in my skin, a lot of the smaller zits had disappeared completely and the others had reduced in redness and were clearly getting better. I also noticed that the tone of my face was a lot more balanced and I generally had a much nicer, healthy glow. At the end of the 4 weeks of using the products, the improvement in my skin was unbelievable and my acne had improved a lot. I was over the moon with the noticeable results and I was singing Clinique's praises to anyone who would listen!
I didn't buy the product again until about 6 months later when my skin got a little bit bad again, it was just too expensive to keep buying the whole set every month. But again they worked a treat and I will also turn to this 3-Step System if I do ever have a skin nightmare again! if you've tried many products with little success, I would reccomend you give this ago and be persistent with the routine and I'm sure you'll be happy with the results.
I remove 1 star only because it's a bit pricey!
I have been using Clinique make up products for over 3 years now. Also I always have problems with spots and acne until I get so self-conscious that I decide to give this Anti-blemish solutions (3 step system) a try. To be honest, I was really put of by the price tag, around £30.00, and was deliberating for quite a while before buying the product.
The box and bottle designs are very simple like many other Clinique products. As for the products themselves, they are travel-size and very useful for holidays or if someone is new to this system (like I was) and wants to give it a go.
The first time I have used this, it did seem to have a good effect on the spots.
You start off with the Cleansing foam (50ml); just squirt twice into your palm and massage gently onto a soaked face. My main problem is with the foam. It is not very effective at removing makeup and I usually have to wash my face twice to remove my eyeliner and mascara. Also another thing is this foam run out very quickly. I had half a bottle left for the Clarifying lotion (100ml) and discovered that I have used up all the foam.
The next step is the Clarifying lotion (100ml). In my opinion, this is probably the most effective step of all. Just soak a cotton pad with the lotion and rub your face gently. It does feel exfoliating and pore-cleansing. However, it can have a slight stinging sensation if you rub for too long as well as leave your skin dry.
The last step is the Clearing moisturiser (30ml). Even though it's the smallest item, it lasts for a long time (well longer than the foam). My face is naturally oily so I was hoping that this would moisturise my skin without making it oily. However I was a bit disappointed that, even though it's oil-free, my face gets shiny after 4-5 hours. It does smell nice though; also my skin didn't get irritated.
Overall, I think the effect lasts for a while and then it doesn't make much of a difference. Maybe my skin get used to it. I must admit, I did go on to buy bigger version of the products until I decided that it wasn't really working and gave up. Also the prices are too expensive for me. I wouldn't recommend the products from my personal experience but someone with a different skin-type might have better results with it.
Clinique make high quality beauty products that can be found in many major high street department stores and online. The Three step anti blemist solutions pack is intended to be used by people who have bad skin or suffer from acne or redness. It contains a month's supply of the aforementioned three steps - a cleanser, exfoliator and a moisturiser. These are not as big as the regular products and are in a "travel" size.
I got mine in John Lewis for around £25, though I have a discount card. I believe that normally the set is around £30 which feels a bit much for only three travel sized items.
As I mentioned above, you can get Clinique products in department stores like House of Fraser, Debenhams and John Lewis.
The packaging is nothing special, but is simple and looks nice in the bathroom.
Cleansing Foam (50ml) - This is my favourite product out of the set. It's a foaming cleanser that is intended to clear your skin. I found it really gentle and nice on my skin and left it feeling soft and clean. I think out of all of the products this is the one that worked the best for me.
Exfoliator (50ml) - I can't speak for everyone but I found this far too harsh on my skin. I do have very sensitive skin so it may be different for other people.
Moisturiser (50ml) - I found this to be a great product too. It was fairly gentle and made my dry skin soft as opposed to greasy. I would buy this in it's full sized capacity as well.
Although slightly pricey, this product is definitely worth looking into. It made my skin much clearer and worked a lot better than any other skin clearing products I've ever used. 8/10
