There aren't many Clinique products that I can say I'm loyal to, actually (at the risk of alienating Clinique lovers) I think this is one brand which is hugely overpriced and overrated. The Deep Cleansing Emergency Mask however is a goodie, and I live in thanks to my friend who passed on several sample tubes after she was given them by a friend of hers who works on the Clinique counter. These aren't full sized tubes incidentally, although do have the same design and colour scheme as the piccie Dooyoo have above. Mine are very sweet 25ml tubes, but as I only have to use a very small amount each time they're lasting brilliantly!
The mask has a creamy consistency which means it's easy to apply the required amount, it's slightly thicker than a cream but definitely not the 'clay' texture that Clinique describe it as. You need only the thinnest layer on your skin and the mask will work its magic in as little as five minutes, this is great for when you're rushing round like the proverbial blue arsed fly but if you have more time you can apply a little more and leave the mask on for longer. Personally I don't see any benefits to giving it more time as even after the five minutes is up there's an excellent improvement in the condition and appearance of my skin.
Actually I don't like to leave it on for much longer than five minutes as after this it begins to dry and I hate the feel of this mask once it's dry; it goes horribly chalky and dusty and if you do leave it until it's dried up it takes much longer to rinse off, and then I'm always worried that I've 'missed a bit' and am walking round with an embarressing white smudge on my face! If rinsed off at the time Clinique advise, the mask washes away easily and quickly - not adding much extra time at all to my beauty routine.
This is a deep cleansing mask, and this can sometimes be a double-edged sword. Yes, it cleans out impurities and dirt that washing has missed - but when you first start using it you'll undoubtedly end up with a few extra spots and blemishes as these impurities are drawn to the surface of your skin. If you've ever done a complete detox (no caffeine or fags - hell!) you'll know what I mean; I've been using this mask semi-regularly for around four years now and still occasionally get this 'spotty' side effect, which is obviously a nuisance but once these spots disappear (and it doesn't take long) I'm always impressed by how clear and healthy my skin looks.
As labelled, this is an emergency mask. Not designed for everyday use (although you can if you a. want to or b. can afford it), it's for when your skin really does need more of a helping hand. I'd estimate I use the mask once a week or less, but this is basically because I have numerous other masks which are much cheaper and just as effective when my skin is 'good' anyway. The Emergency Mask really does sort my skin out when it needs it though, there are situations when your skin may be looking dull or distressed when you need something to shock it out of it's misbehaviour - and for me this is the product I grab when those situations arise.
One issue I have with it is the fact that it makes my skin red for quite a long time after rinsing the mask off, this may be a minor reaction to the product as I experience a not-unpleasant tingling immediately after application but I have never suffered with itching or irritation as a result of using it. I mention the redness only to draw your attention to the fact that you probably won't want to use this as part of your big-night-out pampering routine, as a bright red face under foundation is definitely not a good look.
I'm extremely happy with this Clinique face mask though (happier as up to yet I haven't had to fork out the £17 or so to replace it), but as my stocks are depleting I will definitely splash out in the future.
I bought this product on a whim at an airport a few years ago and haven't looked back since.
My skin is combination- forehead dry, nose and chin oily and the rest is ok. I hear people say that the product is quite pricey (around £15 for 100ml) but I think it's worth the money as you're stuck with the face you have for the rest of your life- why not invest in it?? The tube also lasts me quite a while as I only use the product every couple of weeks or so.
The texture of the mask is very smooth and easily spread over the face and eventually dries to a chalky white substance. As the mask starts to dry you can feel your skin tightening slightly which is always a pleasant sensation.
I usually apply all over my face when I feel my skin needs a bit of a boost but this would be great for regular use on specific problem areas.
After the mask has completely dried I personally find it best to get in the shower to rinse it off as it can take a few goes and I always cover my chest in water if I do this over the sink.
My skin always feels exceptionally clean and innvigorated after use. I can even see the difference, my skin looks much brighter and smooth. It also feels great to touch.
All of us need a little bit of extra help somedays to look our best, and for those days where your skin just looks tired, blotchy and lifeless, whip out the Clinique Deep Cleansing Emergency Mask. It retails for around £16, and is a real lifesaver.
From the moment you spread it on your face, you can feel it start to work. It gives a slight tingling sensation, and has a slight minty smell to it. It has a white clay like texture, and spreads easily over the face (avoiding the eye area). You need to leave it to dry, which takes about 5 minutes or so, but that is just enough time to relax with a cup of tea. Once it is dry, wash it off with lukewarm water, and see how your skin glows.
It really leaves your skin feel soft and glowing afterwards, and you pores are cleansed.
I have heard a rumour that this product is being discontinued, which would be an extreme shame, as I really think it is great for those days where you just need to give your skin a little extar care. Please Clinique, dont fire my skin paramedic!
I first heard of the Clinique Deep Cleansing Emergency Mask through a friend after a long, tiresome weekend. I was recovering from a 24 hour hangover, and my skin was dry and pasty looking after spending two nights in a smoky, sweaty club that literally sucked the moisture from my skin...and it showed. I had pimples, broken capillaries, enlarged pores, dark circles(from the lack of sleep), and my skin felt tight, dry and rough. I was in need of face therapy, until my friend saw me and bluntly told me i was in need of more than that. So she went to her bathroom and came back to me holding the little green tube of this clinique product. I read the label which read 'Clay-based treatment for oily, pore-clogged, skin-under-stress,' and I knew that yes..this was the right product for my situation. The instructions said that the product can be used as a quick fix, in which you leave it on for only 5 minutes, or as a pampering experience where you leave it on for 20 minutes. My friend threw me a washcloth and told me not to come back out until i've left the stuff on for 20 minutes. So i took her advice and proceeded to see how much of an emergency this thing could fix.
I wanted to go all out, so i peeled a cucumber into thin strips for my eyes hoping that it would cure the puffyness while my face was being pampered. I washed off any traces of make-up from the night before and used a cream cleanser. I rinsed this off with warm water in order to open my pores and prepare them for the mask, which would allow the product to get deeper down into the pores and work more efficiently. I then squeezed a dollop of the white clay-based mask onto my finger and applied a thin even coat to my skin all over, excluding the eye area as the package instructions said. I then placed the cucumber strips on top of my eyes and laid down, praying for a skin miracle.
I began to feel a difference within a few minutes, as my face felt tight (from the clay drying) and my face felt slightly tingly and cool, so I could really feel this product working on my skin. I must have dozed off because my timer went off alot quicker than i imagined, and when I went to the mirror my skin looked like a porcelain mask that had cracked. The clay dried completely and had cracked lines all over my face, my eyes seemed less puffy though so I knew that one thing had worked. I rinsed off the product with warm, tepid water until it had finally come off. This process was a bit tricky as some of the product stuck to my eyebrows, random strands of hair, and on my nose, so it did take a small amount of scrubbing to get off. The product is not the easiest thing to rinse off once it's dried, however it will eventually with a little patience.
When I was finished rinsing off the product i followed with my friends Clinique 3 step skincare system (which I also swear by) which includes the facial cleanser, Toner, and dramatically different moisturizing lotion. I had already noticed during this process that my skin felt incredibly smooth and much more hydrated. When I looked in the mirror i had a glow to my skin and it looked much less tired than it had before. Even my pimples and large pores looked smaller, and my skin looked even and brighter than before.
I was pleasantly surpised when i walked out and boasted to my friend that i was now a believer. She too noticed the difference and I now felt much more confident to step outside the front door without my shades and a hat in fear of scaring the neighbours. After the experience i decided to purchase the product for myself, and it cost about $20.00 for a 3.4 fl.oz. bottle, but i knew that it was most definitely worth it. I need this handy after a long weekend of partying that can really take a toll on the skin. The packaging may be fairly plain however i cannot judge a beauty product by its package as I have learned from many bad experiences. The product is not the easiest thing to rinse off once it's dried, however you will see the difference immediately in your skin. I definitely recommend this to anyone who is in the midst of a skin emergency; keep this in your facial first-aid kit for times when your skin needs a quick fix or some extra therapy. It's definitely worth the price and the time it takes for it to rinse off, because your skin will thank-you later.

I'm a firm believer in beauty psychology, ie, if a product looks the business then it probably is. And this tube of face mask certainly does. Entitled 'emergency mask', it gives the impression that you will have perfectly polished skin within the time needed for the product to work - 5 minutes. However, if you have a big date planned, I wouldn't recommend using this as it works by drawing out all the impurities in your skin and thus causing impending spots. However, I feel that this product is better suited to a weekly regime of cleansing. It will tingle slightly when you first apply it, but don't panic. This is just the active ingredients getting to work. Once applied, the mask dries semi-hard so put on some relaxing music and chill because it you move your face muscles, it will end up stretching your skin uneccessarily. And let this baby do its work. Rinsing off is a bit of a pain because the mask has already started to dry, so a quick splash with water just won't shift it. Instead, try soaking a flannel and taking it off with that because you'll also be giving yourself a mini-facial at the same time. Then all you have to do is admire the results. Your skin will feel truly clean for the first time in ages, I guarantee. I found this product to be of extremely high quality and probably one of the best cleansing masks I've ever used. However, I would be very careful with it if you have sensitive skin as the mask is quite potent and could irritate it. Overall, a great luxury skincare product.
This is a "clay-based treatment for oily pore-clogged skin-under-stress", essentially for oily skin, but also useful for other skin types. It contains menthol so feels cool on application, and leaves skin feeling refreshed and soft. It is not at all drying, but will help brighten the skin, and help in clearing up any pimples you may have. Only a very thin layer is needed, so this product will last you ages, and it only needs 5 minutes to work (apply before brushing teeth in the morning and wash off afterwards!). It can also be used on spots over night, and is very effective at reducing size and inflammation of spots due to its ingredients. Amongst other things, this product contains kaolin (white clay) to draw out impurities; salicylic acid (aspirin) which helps to reduce any inflammation; kola nut extract (cola acuminata)-which contains caffeine-to help brighten and tone the skin; aloe barbadensis to moisturise; rosemary (rosmarinus officinalis)extract to regulate sebum production and as an antibacterial agent (to kill spot germs); and menthol to stimulate and invigorate. I would recommend this product to anyone who feels like their skin needs a lift once and a while, or has a problem with oily skin or occasional outbreaks. Spots or not, I would not be without it. Honestly the best face mask I have ever used!!
