Using an exfoliator before shaving is a great way of preparing the skin and the bristles for shaving. It helps open the pores and also gets the bristles to stand up meaning that you get a much closer and smoother shave. It’s also just good for the skin.
Clinique do a great range of men’s products including a exfoliating scrub. It isn’t cheap but it is one of the best that you can buy. They also do a lotion which is fantastic for using before shaving but the scrub is a good option to use in the shower or the bath or if you just like the feeling of your skin being deep down clean.
You do need to be careful when using this scrub as it is very strong. It smells and feels as though it has some menthol in it which can make the eyes water a little bit but you need to avoid the eye area anyway when using it so it isn’t a big problem. The scrubbing particles in this are really scratchy so gently does it when using it on your skin or otherwise you will irritate it.
It works really well at getting the bead bristles standing in one direction which helps to minimise the chances of getting ingrown hairs. When I use this I use it on both my face and neck and it doesn’t just help with shaving it really helps with the texture of the skin as it sloughs off the dead skin and any flaky bits and really smoothes it.
I definitely wouldn’t recommend using this every day because it will be too harsh but using it two or three times a week will really help with the appearance and reduce the chances of you getting ingrown hairs.
This is a fantastic scrub for men and it actually really helps with shaving problems but the biggest problem with it is the price. It costs £19 and I just think this is a ridiculous price even if I do think it is brilliant. My last tube lasted me for absolutely ages so even though it is expensive it does last for a long time.
I use this once a week thats all and it works.
The face scrub which has changed its name from face scrub pate disincrustante to face scrub exfoliant visage (I cannot see any difference between them) is designed to be a once a week exfoliant that leaves the skin feeling very clean indeed.
The thick paste contains what feels like crystals which exfoliate the skin (I believe its actually rice) and once lathered (it taks a bit of work) with warm water you need to leave it on the skin for a couple of minutes. You can feel it working but there is no burning discomfort.
I use another less potent daily face wash during the week so its always nice to use this at the weekend to get rid of that layer of work grime leaving your skin pleasantly tingly. Itsextremely good as a pre shave cleanser.
As I have said for other clinique products the you can also get some good deals especially at boots. They do the bonus time, (like others) and the buy 2 products and get 750 points on your advantage card (so a £7.50 discount in real terms on just under £30 spent) or the best of all 3 for 2.
They offers can mixed with female products so you can treat the other half for some brownie points
The product lasts for 24months (even at once a week it will last about 12 months) from opening. If you do buy two on offer don't open the other one (same with all cosmetics/toiletries)
I have recently started using the Clinique Face Scrub to help make shaving more comfortable.
I dispense a small amount onto my finger tips and mix it up with some very warm water before massaging it into my face especially the areas where I find I don't usually get a clean shave such as just under the jaw line and around my mouth.
The scrub is a thick paste and it does feel quite rough on your hands, but when massaging it onto your face it feels comfortable and I can apply as much pressure as I feel I need to, working it in with my fingertips in circular motions. Although I use this just before shaving, I always take a few seconds to run it around my nose as it helps eliminate blackheads too.
After throughly rinsing my face with warm water I then proceed to shave, and I have noticed that everytime I do this routine, I get a more comfortable and closer shave than normal.
1 tube of the face scrub lasts me several weeks as I only use a small amount. When you squeeze it out, it comes out in a thin tube/string and I suppose I use about a 0.5 - 1cm long application.
After using the scrub my face feels fantastic. It feels tighter, fresher and cleaner, and after a few weeks I have noticed a small general improvement in my complexion. I have sensitive skin and using this is no problem as it is hypo-allergenic and fragrance free.
It's also very good value for money as well, and I tend to buy direct from Clinique as you can get freebies from time to time. When I have tried other exfoliators, they have tended to feel like wet sandpaper and some even left marks on my skin where I pressed too hard - no such trouble here - it does the job effectively but gently enough for everyday use.
I got given some of this in a Clinique for Men pack on my birthday. The scrub is not a liquid, more of a thick paste containing grains for crushed rice to exfoliate the skin.
The scrub needs to be mixed with water however only a small pea size blob is required. It is unfragranced however I think it contains some form of Aloe Vera as it gives you the feeling that AV gives you.
The product comes in a standard Clinique for Men tube with a plastic flip top cap. The plastic cap isn't brilliant because if you knock if off your shelf and it hits a solid floor, the cap as a tendancy to shatter.
One tube of face scrub can last over a month if using once a day so at £15 a bottle it isn't as pricey as it first appears.
This is one of the best face scrubs for men on the market.
This is one of the best face scrubs available for men on the market today. The bottom line is it leaves your skin feeling renewed, supple and clean.
The scrub itself is a very thick paste which contains pleasingly small exfoliant grains (including crushed rice). You apply a one pence piece amount and rub it into wetted skin with gentle circular movements. The scrub is not overly abrasive, but is by no means a feeble exfoliant. It also contains salicylic acid which is an excellent chemical exfoliant - it tingles slightly, but has great antibacterial properties, which reduces the occurrence of blemishes.
It is unscented which is great not just for those with sensitive skin but also those who like to wear a cologne, as it avoids clashing fragrances.
The packaging is the signature Clinique for men grey - it is a tube with a hinged plastic cap. It's not the best dispenser (a more solid toothpaste-style button cylinder would have been nice), but it reflects the no-nonsense efficiency of the product.
