Clinique Lid Smoothie was a gift from my other half knowing I like Clinique products and seeing these new eye shadows being advertised he decided to treat me to one from Debenhams. I have to say it sounds great but all in all I am not overly impressed!
The Lid Smoothie comes in the usual pale green and beige cardboard box that all Clinique products come in, this is just slightly bigger than the eyeshadow and has a small pamphlet inside. The Clinique silver branding and the eye shadow colour and short description are also written on the box. The eye shadow itself comes in a squeezy tube, it is quite small and compact with approximate dimensions of 6 cm length x 1.5 cm diameter.
The main body of the tube is transparent so you can see the colour of the eye shadow as well as the volume left in the tube. The lid is a lovely silver colour that screws on and off and keeps the eye shadow in its tube. Inside the lid at the top is a long spike that goes directly into the tube to stop any excess colour spilling or being squeezed out by mistake in your handbag. The applicator of the eye shadow is shaped like a lip gloss end, it is very smooth and slanted with a small opening, when you put pressure on the tube the eye shadow comes out.
I am not really used to liquid eye shadows to be honest, Clinique says to start with a small amount of the eye shadow and build with additional colour as desired. You release a small amount of the lid smoothie and apply directly to your eye lid, smoothing it onto you eyes. It is quite a thick consistency so you really do not need much to get a decent block of colour. The shape of the tip makes it really easy and comfortable to apply.
The Lid Smoothie promises many things...the 8-hour eye colour is true, this has great staying power and I do not need to reapply. The crease resistant promise I would not really agree with as after a good few hours wear I do find the center of my eye lid has a crease line and slight build up either side, though perhaps I put too much colour on? I tend to give it a quick rub and it blends back easily into a solid colour due to its creamy and moisturising consistency. This also has a cooling effect when applied, which is helped by the tip being a smooth metal material, it really does feel refreshing when you put it on which is very nice.
Like most of Clinique's recent products this has antioxidants which keep your eye lids fresh and protected. It is allergy tested and 100% fragrance free.
There are twelve colours to choose from the Lid Smoothie collection, mine is called 03 Sassy-fras which is quite a deep bronze colour with some pretty sparkle to it. It is really nice for work. There are no really bright colours in this collection, though they are all very rich and vibrant looking.
Overall I do not think I will buy another of these in a hurry, the colour is nice and bold but for me the crease free statement doesn't work and it is perhaps a little too thick and creamy for my liking.
These are available online and at Clinique counters priced at £17 for 7ml of shadow.
