One of the best I've ever used

This is a good product that Clinique launched few years ago. I've used it during a time when my skin was under stress and irritated and fount it effective in covering the redness on my face. I don't tend to buy many products from the Clinique range however there are a few that I find amazing and would not replace with anything else, this is one of them.

Packaging: Comes in a jar containing 24g of mineral powder. A small powder brush is also included however I never used it because I much prefer to use a Kabuki brush for powder application and also the included brush seemed a bit cheap to me.

Components: 75% of components are a mixture of minerals such as Calcium, sodium, potassium, magnesium the remaining 25% is a mixture of , magnolia bark extract, mushroom extract, grapefruit peel and Vitamine E. A special mention must be made to magnesium, it is highly effective for oily skin types because absorbs excess oil.

Application: I was advised by the Clinique sales person to apply a small quantity of product directly with fingers on my face and then brush it off. It was a great tip, I still use this technique for any type of powder application and the results are always flawless.
Texture and feeling on sin: the powder is very fine, of a light yellow colour that perfectly complements most skin tones (believe it or not our skin is more yellow than pink), blends easily without leaving any "powdery" appearance and has a fresh feeling.

Results: the application of this powder immediately cancelled the red patches on my face. I'm not sure as the claimed therapeutic properties but is definitely a winning canceling powder.

Price and availability: I bought mine from Boots, price is £24.50 but is available at any Clinique counter and of course online.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Give it a try as long as you don't have dry skin, totally unsuitable for that problem.

I have rosacea and so I have tried quite a few product over the years to try and combat it. My last reviews was another one of the Clinique Redness Solutions and it wasn't a very good one. I'm afraid to say that this review is also somewhat negative. Unlike a cream, which is supposed to solve the problem, this loose powder is used to cover it, used either under or over make-up (I was told by the Clinique consultant). So that's it's purpose and as you can see in the picture above it comes with a brush and the powder itself is in a 24g glass pot with a silver lid, which cost me £24.50 from Boots.

The first thing I would recommend if you have sensitive skin is to use your own brush to apply this product, as I found the one that comes with it to be quite scratchy. The product is a loose powder, so I would also advise using it prior to putting your top on as you will end up with powder all over your clothes.....and it doesn't brush off.

I have dry skin so I found that using a powder actually made my skin look worse and dried it out. So this product wasn't for me. Having said that the powder did seem to reduce the redness of my cheeks. It provided light coverage so if you are looking for full coverage try something else.

All in all it did reduce the redness in my skin somewhat, but didn't suit my dry complexion, in fact it made my wrinkles more pronounced.

      Help disguise unsightly redness

I have been burnt by the Clinique redness solutions before when it first came out and the lady in the shop told me it was going to revolutionize my skin care routine. I have Rosacea which makes my skin red and blotchy and ultra sensitive to some products so I can become a bit desperate and ready to beleive anything that I think might help. Needless to say that I found most of the products weren't very good and some of them shouldn't even be used by people with Rosacea.

However when Clinique released a make-up range designed for red skin to go along with their skin care range I had to try it out and see if it was going to be any better than the creams. They have a foundation which i found to be just ok and they also released a mineral powder. Now as I have used mineral powders before to good effect I was most excited to try this one.

The mineral powder from the redness solutions range is designed to help cover redness and make your skin appear more even. It comes in a plastic tub with a silver lid and inside there is loose powder and a peforated cover which you are supposed to shake the powder through so that you don't apply too much. You also get a brush with which to apply the powder with.

The mineral powder is yellow in colour as yellow is supposed to give a more natural coverage of redness than the traditional green products that are normally available for redness. To use the powder you just need to dip the brush into the powder and then brush over your face. I always find that when putting the brish in the powder I get too much on it so I give it a blow to get the excess off. I just lightly brush the powder all over my skin making sure to go over my face a few times to ensure that their is no loose powder on my skin.

I find that I need to apply the powder at least twice as the coverage that it gives is very slight. When I was first applying it I thought that it wasn't covereing the redness at all but after I had done the whole of one side of my face I noticed that it was looking much less red than the other side. To be honest the brush that it comes with is to small and not very good so you would be better using a bigger make-up brush to ensure that you are getting the best coverage.

Because the powder is yellow i didn't notice it on my skin and it didn't leave me with that horrible ashen ill look that green tinted products can cause. i found it to be really natural and it looked as though i had nothing on my skin with one exception. It has little glittery flakes which I think are supposed to reflect the light and make you look more flawless but I found these little flakes to be annoying as they caught the light and made it look like I was wearing glitter.

The powder feels really gentle on the skin and didn't cause me to break out or feel like it was clogging my pores. I could hardly tell I had anything on my skin and it left it looking matt and shine free as well as covering the redness. The one thing that I would say is that before you even attempt to use this powder is that moisturising well with a rich moisturiser is a must as if you have even the slightest dry patch the powder will cling to it and you will be left with a patch of powder on your skin.

I did have a few problems with the mineral podwer in that it does make a mess and any time i use it I end up getting loads on the carpet and all over my clothes. The tub it comes in could also use little work as although the little holes are only supposed to let a small amount of powder through there is loads and when I open the lid it inevitably gets everywhere. When I was first using it I thought how much better it would have been if they had made it a pressed powder instead of a loose one and low and behold a few months later they did release a pressed version which is so much easier to use than this one but does the exact same thing for the skin.

If you have red skin then this redness mineral powder is a great thing for helping. It wont cover severe redness but for light redness it will help disguise it and used in combination with a decent foundation should leave you redness free for the whole day. It isn't cheap at just under £25 for a tub but for this money you will get enough powder to last you for months even with daily use, just so long as you don't end up spilling most of it on the carpet.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

        One to avoid

One of the biggest problems I have with my skin is redness on my cheeks. I've had this for several years and still not worked out the cause. There's a possibility it's hereditary as my mother has the same thing, but I also wonder if the fact I was sunburnt on my face two years in a row has something to do with it. Anyway, whatever caused it, it makes me really self conscious and I am always looking for ways to calm it down or cover it up.

I have tried lots of anti-redness products now, with limited success. The only product that has even slightly helped has been the No.7 calm skin redness relief gel, and even that didn't get rid of it completely, just toned it down a bit. When Clinique launched their redness solutions range a few years ago, it was heavily advertised and I was incredibly tempted to try it. I was particularly intrigued by the Instant relief mineral powder, as I'd never seen a product like it before, but the £24 price tag put me off. I eventually searched on eBay and although it took me a while to find anyone selling this, I eventually got a small sized tub (I believe it must have come as part of a gift with purchase) for around £9.00.

The product is a loose mineral powder, and can be worn either under or over make-up as well as on its own. It is suitable for all skin types (well according to Clinique anyway) and will give a sheer to moderate coverage.

The powder comes in a clear tub with a silver screw top lid bearing the Clinique logo. On removing the lid you will see a sort of sifter with holes and the mineral powder sits on a kind of tray at the top of the tub, much like other mineral make-up products I have used. The only problem I have with tubs of this nature, as that if your tub is in a make-up bag or handbag whilst you travel the powder gets shook up and far too much is left sitting on the tray. Once it's on the tray, it's very difficult to get it back into the tub and that's a problem I have found with this product too.

The powder does come with a silver retractable brush for application and I think that the inclusion of the brush will have bumped the price up slightly. As I have a small sized version, the brush I was supplied with was also small and although I seem to recall trying it once, it got thrown out pretty much straight away, and now I just use a large powder brush to apply.

To apply it, I tip a small amount of powder into the lid of the tub. Then, I swirl the powder brush into the powder for a few seconds. I saw a demo on TV once which said that doing this will warm up the powder and make it go on more easily.

The yellowy powder goes onto my smoothly and I find the powder has a silky feel to it. Although yellow in the tub it goes on sheer and leaves no yellowy colour on the skin, so don't worry, you won't end up looking jaundiced!

The results, I have to say were disappointing. I did not feel that the powder covered redness at all, my skin looked just the same as it always had, aside from one small difference...

As my skin is dry, I found that any dry patches were emphasised. The powder really clings to dryness and emphasised any flaky bits. My skin really looked awful...almost as though I had some sort of illness! I decided to try exfoliating and applying some moisturiser to try to prep my skin and see if it went on any better.

After buffing my skin and letting my moisturiser soak in, I applied the powder again. Past experience has told me that mineral powder can go on patchy over moisturised skin, but again this went on smoothly and evenly. This time there was a minor improvement to my skin in that the dry bits couldn't be noticed. The big disappointment however, was that yet again there was very little difference to the way my skin looked, and I didn't feel that the redness was any better than it had been.

I decided to apply a few layers of the powder to see if this would help. The powder is very lightweight and as such, building up the layers didn't make the powder feel heavy on the skin, and I certainly didn't feel like I had thick make up on. Again, unfortunately, I didn't feel that the redness had been covered, although the more I put on, the more I felt my skin did have a very slight colour to it, as though I had applied a tinted moisturiser.

The make-up is removed easily at the end of the day with a normal cleanser. It does last well, I can apply it in the morning and still see the remains of it on a cotton wool pad when I remove it at the end of the day.

At £24.50 for a 24g tub from Boots, this is not a cheap product. Obviously given that it didn't do the job of covering redness, then I don't think it is worth paying this.

On the whole I came away very disappointed with this product and was glad I bought a small size rather than splashing out on the full version. The powder simply does not do the job it says it will and as such I couldn't recommend it.
