Clinique Rinse Off Foaming Cleanser
Advantages: Lathers very well, removes longwearing makeup, feels gentle, hypoallergenic
Disadvantages: Smells bad, bit expensive (but worth it as it lasts)
Clinique is my favourite brand for skincare and is a company that I trust as all products are hypoallergenic and this cleanser is Ophthalmologist tested. I have skin which can sometimes be a bit sensitive or react badly to some products, especially the cheaper ones or skincare which is highly fragranced, so I usually find myself sticking with Clinique. I have never reacted badly to any Clinique skincare and I found this item pleasant to use.
Clinique has a number of different cleansers which are designed to remove all your makeup before thoroughly cleansing your skin. This does mean they recommend two separate products. The more cynical among you might think this is just a way to encourage you to spend more money and buy more from the counter, but I really do see the value in making sure all traces of makeup are gone from my face so that I can cleanse my bare skin fully.
I previously used the blue cleansing gel for oily skin but as I received a 50 ml sample of this rinse of foaming cleanser for all skin types in one of my Bonus Time bags as a gift with purchase I thought I would give it a try for a change. I ended up really liking it and I have now repurchased.
This foaming cleanser is a slightly pinkish white colour and it is quite a thick cream but feels quite light and airy. It comes in a clear plastic tube with typical Clinique branding and a green flip top lid, as pictured above. A small amount suffices to remove my makeup. It lathers and foams up extremely well when squeezed onto wet hands and massaged onto an already wet face. In comparison with the gel cleanser, this foaming cleanser creates much much more lather, as you might expect from the name. I find that I do like this better, as the increased amount of lather on my face makes me feel like my face is being cleansed better. To be fair, both of them are equally effective at lifting away all traces of makeup, but I quite like to be able to see the product on my face so I can see where I have put it, if I have applied it evenly and so on.
Clinique describes it thus "Effectively removes long-wearing makeup and sunscreen quickly and gently. Skin feels moist, clean, and fresh. Contains chamomile. Concentrated formula is long-lasting." I think this is accurate and as it is a creamy texture rather than gel, it definitely does feel much more moisturising and I find it quite calming and gentle on my skin, which I suppose may well be due to the chamomile. I do use long wearing makeup, such as the Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation, and most general face washes cannot remove it properly so I would find that I still get traces of makeup on my cotton pad when using toner or exfoliator, but this foaming cleanser does get rid of it and leaves my face completely clean. I then follow it with my Clinique liquid facial soap, as advised.
The only thing which I did not like about this cleanser at first is the fact that it smells really odd. I have now got used to it and no longer even notice, but it has quite a strong chemically smell to it. I couldn't say what it actually smells of, but it is not pleasant! Still, I think it is a small price to pay for something that does its job so effectively, so personally it does not put me off.
A 150 ml tube costs £16. As 150 ml lasts a long time I do this is good value for money, especially if bought during a Bonus Time when lots of freebies are available from the Clinique counter. You can get this anywhere that sells Clinique, such as Boots, House of Fraser, Debenhams, John Lewis, Selfridges, most other department stores. Alternatively you can buy it online on Clinique.co.uk
Summary: A great product for me - prefer it to the Clinique cleansing gel now
