Advantages: It has no smell, it gives a natural sun-kissed shimmer which is streak free
Disadvantages: None for me!
I previously bought the older version of this Clinique body tinted lotion and was hugely disappointed with it. Firstly it smelt horrendous and even after I had rubbed it in I could still smell this gone off smell on me all day - which is a bit of a turn off on a night out when the tan is supposed to attract men towards me and not the opposite. I know that Clinique is fragrance-free but I'd prefer some fragrance at this point. Secondly it gave me the most horrendous streaks and marks. Despite the lotion being slightly tinted so I could see where it was going it still managed to make it look like I had applied it in the dark. Thirdly when I went in the shower the entire lot came off... which I was pleased about when it streaked so much but I was told by the Clinique lady that it would not wash off in the shower.
However, I was bought the newer version of this in newer packaging with a new formulation around 4 months ago. I still had my doubts about it and I would not have gone out and bought it myself but it was a present to me so I had to try it again.
To my surprise all of my previous disappointments had been rectified. I now cannot recommend this self-tan enough, firstly it has no smell which is great, secondly it does not leave me streaked and lastly it washed off slightly in the shower but I was still left looking quite tanned.
I think what I love the most about it is that there are two versions of it which can be bought: the light/medium and medium/dark. Usually the light/medium is still too dark for my very pale, ivory skin but it was perfect. I would say one application was enough to last me the week. If I had reapplied it I think it would have been too dark, but it means I use less of the product over time which is good. Also the product is oil-free and non-comedogenic. This means that it will not cause spots so I do use it on my face as well despite Clinique having a separate product of this for the face.
It retails at £16.00 for 125ml which I think is quite reasonable since Clinique is a premium cosmetic. Some of the non-premium cosmetic brands with self-tan are around the same price. The new packaging of this self tan is lovely, it is in a golden tube which just reminds me of summer with the Clinique logo on.
To apply simply exfoliate first so as to get rid of dead skin cells so the self tan does not cling to certain areas making them darker. Then apply either with your hands (but this is more likely to cause streaks) or with a mitt (which I use). This then allows your hands not to get coloured and it gives a smooth application. Then the packaging suggests to not put clothes on until 15 minutes after applying, however, I found it was absorbed very quickly as opposed to others I have tried. So I put clothes on straight away and it did not tint my underwear which was quite impressive whilst it was developing. Despite the colour being tinted when applying it does not instantly tan you. It develops over a few hours. However, it does instantly leave you with a slight sun-kissed shimmer all over which I absolutely love.
To conclude this is the best self tan I have ever used and I will definitely continue to use it and buy it. It is such a contrast from their previous version of it and the packaging is lovely too.
Summary: Clinique's self tan in a tinted formula so you can see wear you are applying it
