After spending a week in the sun and having this in my handbag I cannot recommend this SPF 35 Targeted Protection Stick product enough from Clinique. Both myself and my partner used this constantly throughout the holiday and it was a real comfort to know I had a quick fix for sun protection.
The sun stick comes in a small and compact plastic oval tube, in a bit of a horrible yellow/gold colour. The lid is ¾ of the size of the stick which slides off and clips back into place easily. The sun lotion works a bit like a lip stick, you twist the turner at the bottom of the tube and the balm comes out for application and you retract it in the same way. You have to make sure the sun stick is back in place and protected before you put the lid back on.
This sun protection stick is so much more than first looks would have you believe, it is not just for your lips. This can be used on the eyes and around eye areas, nose, ears and earlobes as well as the lips. All the areas we tend to forget or neglect with regular sun tan lotions. Clinique also states that this can be used on scarred skin areas. As well as protecting sensitive skin from the sun, it also works against aging and the burning effects of both UVA and UVB rays from the sun and sun beds. This has a sun protection factor of SPF35 and thus quite a strong protective measure.
You apply this sun protection stick on any areas of skin you feel it is most needed, I used mine on my eyelids, nose and ears mostly. It is quite a firm, solid balm but goes onto the skin very easily leaving a clear film of sun protection on your face. It doesn't feel or become greasy like normal sun tanning lotions and rubs into your skin very well, the shape of the stick means it covers all the areas easily and evenly. It feels very moisturising and smooth and lasts particularly well in the hot weather. Being made by Clinique this is oil free and ophthalmologist and dermatologist tested.
Clinique recommends reapplying the sun stick after two hours, after swimming, towel drying or perspiring. I did not apply this as frequently as this stated, perhaps a couple or more times a day but found this to be sufficient for the heat temperature I was in. For higher temperatures or if using on children I would think it should be used more often, but this is personal judgement.
The sun stick product fits easily into a small bag and is just so handy for carrying around with you during the hot days and applying as and when needed. I was away for a week and barely used a quarter of the tube which I think makes this good value for money at £15.50 online and from major department stores stocking Clinique products. I can see it lasting well over the summer months and I will definitely be buying another once this is all used up.
First of all I must make clear that the picture and title shown for this product is now outdated. Clinique has totally redone its entire sun range with new and improved packaging and ingredients. Clinique's suncare range is now a huge asset to Clinique, it is doing better than ever before.
***How is this lip and eye stick now redone?***
It now comes in SPF 35 and 45 rather than SPF 30 and comes in a completely yellow container. The mechanism of the container is identical though. Clinique have also removed the title lip and eye because it made customers believe that those were its only functions. However it can be used in multiple other places on the face like the ears, nose and even scars. So Clinique have now called it the targeted protection stick. It is great for parents to put on their children for the areas that most often get forgotten when in the sun.
***What price is it?***
It is £15.00 for 6g which I have to admit lasts such an amazingly long time.
***How else is this product now different?***
Clinique have completely revamped their sun care range with the UVA/B protection using a 3:1 ratio to prevent burning and premature ageing.
Clinique suggests that it should be reapplied every 2 hours, however I found I didn't need to reapply it for the entire day (however it would different if you were swimming).
I would definitely recommend this product it is fantastic and Clinique's new suncare range looks better and I've much preferred it to their old range, certainly something to try!
