Advantages: Removes heavy, persistent makeup in one wipe and thoroughly removes lip makeup
Disadvantages: Slightly too pricey and it feels quite greasy on the eye lids .
First of all I must say that the name of this product is slightly different to the title given. It is called Clinique Take The Day Off For Lids, Lashes & Lips (but throughout the review I will just refer to it as Take The Day Off).
Now this is a product from Clinique which I cannot live without yet I feel like what I am using it for is very unnecessary for £14.00. Basically it is supposed to be the most fantastic eye makeup as well as lip makeup remover. However, I would have to say that I do not understand when you would use it as a lip makeup remover since on your way back from a night out unless you've worn a horrendously staining lipstick your lipstick is likely to have removed itself during the night out anyway. However, despite me saying that I do only ever use this product on my lips but prior to going out. Once I have applied my makeup and foundation my lips end up being the colour of my foundation making me look extremely washed out. So on a regular day I do not wear anything on my lips unless it is a natural lipstick or lipgloss. So I use this Clinique Take The Day Off to remove the foundation on my lips to give my natural lip colour back. Why I cannot live without this product I will never know! But if I ever start to dig into my overdraft on my student account then I know where I should cut down on expenses.
============== .... So why do I not use this as an eye makeup remover? ================
I occasionally do but I find it too greasy so I have a cheap L'oreal eye makeup remover for everyday use. But if I have worn particularly heavy makeup I will use this one despite the greasiness since I know it will be removed in one clean wipe of the cotton pad with it on. I would say that the Lancome eye makeup remover feels very similar to this one in that it is quite greasy.
==================== Clinique's Take The Day Off's Appearance ====================
It is in a clearish purple tinted bottle with a child proof screw lid on the top.. I'm never sure why a child proof lid is on it when products like Clinique's clarifying lotion which I am sure is far more dangerous due to the cosmetics alcohol in it has not got this. Perhaps it is for reasons behind my comprehension but who knows! But due to the child proof lid the lid can be temperamental occasionally. One of the lids on mine has lost caused leaking despite its design which is very peculiar. The actual eye makeup remover has two layers which must be shaken to mix them together. The layers work together to grip the eye makeup remover off apparently. However, I have been assured by the Clinique lady that I purchase this off that there is no oil present in the eye makeup remover. I would love to know what makes it feel so oily though. But unfortunately I could not get that question answered at the Clinique counter. I think the girls must hate me there with the 101 questions that I ask them.
=========================== Other Information ===============================
This eye makeup remover is suitable for contact lens wearers. It is a quick and easy eye makeup remover which does not require any rubbing on the eye area. If approaching the Clinique counter for this product do not get confused by the other item with a similar name which is Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Milk which is £16.00. It is a cleanser to remove foundation which would work nicely alongside this eye makeup remover.
========================= Retail Price and Where to Buy? =========================
Clinique items can be purchased from a number of stores such as Boots, Debenhams, House of Fraser, John Lewis, some independent stores and online at http://www.clinique.co.uk. This particular product retails at £14.00 for 125ml. It has unfortunately like all other products on the market crept up in price over the years. It used to be £11.50 this time last year, I just hope it does not go up again because past £14.00 I would not pay. Luckily I get some large deluxe samples of this is gift sets and when Clinique has Bonus Time (free gift with the purchase of two items). So I stock up on them then too.
============================ Overall Verdict ================================
For somebody that wears long wearing eye makeup remover or waterproof or heavy eye makeup then you can be assured that this eye makeup remover will 100% remove it. However, if like me you are rather picky and do not like an oily, greasy feel on your eyelids then you probably won't like it. However, like I said I have it on the side for the occasions I am wearing heavy eye makeup and I use it for my lips before I go out. But I am not sure whether £14.00 is justifiable for using it for the reasons I use it. I'd be better off buying some cheap makeup wipes really for the times I wear heavy eye makeup. Oh well Clinique somehow has me hooked on it!
